Ecoprinted cotton fabric. Measurements : 50x100 inches Eco printing refers to the act of printing the pigments and tannins of plants to textiles to alter color, apply color and create certain designs. Natural dye is a component where everything used for dyeing is all natural, such as flowers, leaves, bark, roots and even bugs. In the making of this fabric, I used local leaves. The process is ecofriendly and unrepeatable. The result is unique and surely one of the kind. Before the eco printing process, the fabrics need to be scoured and mordanted first. This scouring and mordanting process takes 2 days or more. Eco printing results may vary according to many conditions – plant season, plant part used, processing time, water quality, pH level, mordant, processing method, fibre type (protein, cellulose or synthetic), etc. That's why it always have a unique result. There are 2 eco printing techniques : pounding and bundling. I use bundling technique in all of my eco printing projects. Bundling is a technique of arranging leaves, stems, flowers onto the mordanted fabric in a certain design pattern. Fabric then rolled and bundled. The bundle then steamed or boiled for about 2-3 hours. I used to steam and wait overnight before I unbundle it. Unbundling is always the best part of the whole eco printing process. You never know for sure what you'll get from the bundle. Always full of surprises and always bring such an excitement each time I witnessed the masterpiece of mother nature. The eco printed fabric then hang to dry. Avoided from direct sunlight. I wait for a few days before I wash it with a pH balance soap, rinse then hang to dry again. It's a long process. That's why it is called slow fashion. I hope this beautiful ecoprinted cotton fabric would always reminds you about being patient and enjoying a process. This cotton fabric could be use to make clothings, home decors or various kinds of handicrafts. Care instruction : handwash with pH balance soap or detergent for delicate fabrics in cold water. Wash separately from white or light coloured fabrics. Hang to dry and avoid direct sunlight.

Tea is rich with tannin (good for gripping onto fabric), is inexpensive, and attaches well to cotton and linen. It typically gives you a light brown color if you don’t use any color modifiers. You can use an iron modifier on the fabric after you dye it with the tea, which will shift your colors to grey, and increase our fabric’s color- and lightfastness. At the iron sulfate stage, you will be able to experiment with different dipping and folding techniques to create patterns on your fabric.
