Elegant illustrated Christmas cards by Swedish artist Einar Nerman (1888-1983). Einar moved to Stockholm to study art when he was 17 and then went on study in Paris under the instruction of Matisse at the Academie Matisse in Paris. In 1912 he returned to Sweden to study dance and music. In the 1920's he lived and worked in London and then moved to New York during the second world war.

Om Einar Nerman visste jag bara att han var född i Norrköping, att han blev internationellt känd genom sin etikett Solstickan och att han var en fena på karikatyrer. Modellen till den lille pojken på tändsticksasken var hans egen son Tom läste jag på Wikipedia, där man kan läsa mer om denna underbara illustratör och konstnär. Orsaken till att jag började bli mer intresserad av Einar Nerman var hans reportage från London där han vistades under ett tiotal år och skrev och ritade för The Tatler. De var återkommande inslag i Bonniers Veckotidning som jag hade börjat samla på. Han illustrerade också många annonser som fanns i tidningen. Omslaget till Iduns veckotidning julen 1931 av Einar Nerman. (Bilderna går att klicka större.) Förra året hittade jag en gammal jultidning på Tradera - Idun 1931 - som helt fokuserade på Einar Nermans illustrationer. Tidningen handlade om berömda kvinnor i litteraturen "Diktens kvinnor". Författaren och skriftställaren Olof Rabenius skrev också en åtföljande berättelse om var och en av dessa kvinnor. I det här inlägget kommer jag att lägga ut några bilder från den tidningen. Det är sammanlagt elva bilder och det har varit svårt att sovra bland dem. Samtliga håller samma höga klass enligt min mening. Förhoppningsvis går bilden att klicka större så att man kan läsa tidningens förord. Det är intressant läsning. Man kan ju bara jämföra med julnumren av dagens veckotidningar... En dikt har tidningen också med. En bild på Balladens jungfru. Här ser vi en rokokoherdinna - Camilla ur "Atis och Camilla" av Gustaf Filip Creutz. Carl Michael Bellmans Ulla Winblad dansar fram. Så här skriver Rabenius om Fröken Juliana av Anna Maria Lenngren. "Fru Lenngren har med 'Fröken Juliana' i en anskrämlig men levande karikatyr tecknat ett av dessa tillgjordhetens våp, för vilkas narraktighet hon hade en skarp blick, och hänvisande till deras motsats i lynne och skick hemburit kvinnans oförfalskade natur och fria värdighet sitt pris." Med tanke på detta tycker jag att Einar Nerman verkligen har fångat Juliana i ett nötskal. Ett inte alltför smickrande porträtt av Anna Maria Lenngrens "Fröken Juliana" av Anna Maria Lenngren. Bilden illustrerar Gustaf Frödings dikt "Balen" ur "Nya dikter" med Elsa Örn som huvudperson. Det blir nog fler inlägg så småningom med Einar Nerman eftersom jag har mycket material kvar som jag tycker är intressant och gärna vill dela med mig av.
