”Tænk hvis der fandtes sådan en ”Book of Love” – En bog med svar på alle spørgsmål om kærlighed” …denne tanke opstod i Kasper Eistrup og den blev omdrejningspunktet – startskuddet til hans første soloudstilling – ”Book of Love”, som finder sted disse dage på Galleri Benoni, Store Kongensgade 40, i København. At Kasper springer ud som kunstner, er ikke bare en dille – Kasper har i over 15 år ikke blot udtrykt sig gennem hans musik i bandet Kashmir, han har også udtrykt sig gennem sin kunst. At være en del af et succesfuldt band, som har udgivet 7 albums, afholdt masser af koncerter og taget på lange turnéer, efterlader ikke meget tid til andre passioner. Derfor er det primært musikken vi kender Kasper Eistrup fra – Min fornemmelse siger mig, at det kommer til at ændre sig i fremtiden! A sistrum is a musical rattle. Metal disks strung on wires along the arched upper end of the sistrum produced a rustling sound that was supposed to have a calming effect on the nerves of various deities, especially the goddesses Hathor and Bastet. Appropriately, this example is decorated with a Hathor head (a woman with cow’s ears) and a cat (the image of Bastet). These instruments are particularly associated with women, who played them as members of a temple choir.
The sistrum was a musical instrument that created sound through the rattling of its metal pieces; the Egyptian name for these instruments, sesheshet or sesheshat, is onomatopoetic and mimics the instruments’ rattling sound (1). In this example, the four crossbars were threaded through holes in the frame and prevented from falling out by twisting the ends in opposite directions (2). The instrument played an important part in the rites of the goddesses such as Hathor and Isis. It is often depicted as insignia of young female participants of these cults. With the spread of the Isis cult, examples of sistra have been found throughout the Roman world, including Pompeii (3). Many examples incorporate the head of Hathor along with other ornaments, although this sistrum is unadorned. The frame of the sistrum is roughly rectangular with an elegant triangular pediment. It represents the naos, or shrine, of the goddess. The handle tapers from an oval cross section down to a round one at the bottom and is terminated by a conical finial, perhaps a simplification of the papyrus column.
