Jennifer McGuire recently shared a technique using 3D embossing folders and a sanding block that she called Embossing Folder Pop. Taking away color with the sanding block lets the embossed images pop and appear to have highlights. I remembered that I had some Stampin' Up sanding blocks so I inked a panel and ran it through Altenew's Beautiful Bergenia embossing folder. Then I started lightly sanding the raised areas on the panel. Either my sanding block is too old, or my hand is too heavy because too much color was taken away. I ended up swiping the surface with a white pigment ink pad and I liked the results much better. A gold diecut "hello" finished off the card. I'm determined to try this again, with my order of Altenew's newest 3D embossing folders on its way and a lighter hand at sanding. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sometimes when I emboss vellum, it cracks. You can hide the cracks by mounting it on a white panel. What about when you don't want white on white? So I started thinking about how to hide the cracks. One of my favorite techniques is to rub a ink pad on an embossing folder. I thought maybe using white pigment ink would hide the cracks. So I rubbed my favorite white pigment ink, Hero Arts Unicorn on the embossing folder. Remember that if you rub the pad onto the RAISED areas of the embossing folder, it will push the ink into the RECESSED areas of the embossed panel. If I rubbed the ink on the top side of the folder, where I usually do, it would push the ink into the backround, not what I wanted. I want the ink to hit the leaves and branches, the raised areas of the panel after embossing. I usually do this by embossing the paper first, then taking an ink pad and carefully rubbing it over the raised areas. But when the image doesn't fully cover the panel, sometimes ink gets where I don't want it to by, namely the background, and I end up with a messy panel. Several people told me it's difficult for them to rub the ink pad over the panel. If when you rub the ink pad over the embossing folder, wipe the ink off any places you don't want ink to end up. Here is my YouTube video of how I applied the ink, sometimes seeing is easier than reading. How to attach vellum to a panel without seeing glue? Cut the vellum longer than the panel and fold over the excess. Put the adhesive on the fold and attach to the back of the panel. If you look under the video in the description, the products are linked. I don't have an affiliate link to Simon Says Stamp but I have links for the other products where available. The vellum I used is 65 lb Darice brand, this is a very old pack, I'm not even sure Darice is still in business. Also I should mention that the Scalloped Frame I used for one card is by Lawn Fawn, also very old. Note that the colors of the inked panels behind the vellum are very bright, the vellum softens the colors quite a bit. You can see that in the video. My links are in the description under the YouTube video, everytime I try linking products here, they kick my video off because they think it's spam. So here is a link to Scrapbookcom and Spellbinders, where I buy most of my products. Using my links, at no additional cost to you, lets me and these companies know you find my content useful. Hello everyone. I’m excited to be guest designing (GD) this week at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown (52CCT) for their Embossing Folder technique challenge. My card used all never before used products (NBUS) including Scenic Poinsettia 3D embossing folder (EF) from Spellbinders with Infinity Nesting Ornaments dies, Holiday Sentiment Strips stamp and Sentiment Strips fancy die from Hero Arts. Here’s my card. Embossed a Bristol panel with EF. Die cut a DIY ornament stencil from Masking Magic paper and adhered it to the panel. Ink blended Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo and Picked Raspberry distress inks through the stencil. For some sparkle, sspritz with a shimmer spray (could not capture it in a photo). Heat embossed the sentiment with gold embossing powder next, then die cut it out into a strip with the fancy die. Cut a string with paper trimmer and die cut attachment piece from gold foil paper. Assembled the card onto a white card base to finish. I want to thank Andreja and the 52CCT team for the GD opportunity. For inspirations from the design team and/or link up your entry, click HERE. Hope to see you in the gallery. Key products used for my card are linked below. Hello again friends, Don’t you love the detail in this Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder (#162935). I dry embossed the Basic White card front (#159228) with the embossing folder. I then coloured one flower with Stampin’ Blends. I was going to do more flowers but once I did this one decided I liked it with just the one coloured. I used Lemon Lolly (#161673), Daffodil Delight (#154883), Petal Pink (#154893) and Soft Sea Foam (#154902) Stampin’ Blends. I matted the card with Daffodil Delight card (#121680). As I didn't have any Daffodil Delight Ribbon I coloured the Lemon Lolly from the Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack (#161635) using a dauber with Daffodil Delight ink (#161635). This was then wrapped around the card. The base card is also Basic White. “Thinking Of You” from the Go To Greetings stamp set (#158763) was stamped with Daffodil Delight ink (#147094), then cut with an Autumn Leaves die (#162185). The sentiment was attached with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (#144108). I added Wink Of Stella (#141897) to the flower and the embellishments are the Iridescent Foil Gems (#162842). “Love what you do and share what you love.” INSPIRE. CREATE.
