The latest issue of est magazine recognises how our homes support our intrinsic connection to nature. We also explore the collaborative synergy between Australian architects and landscape architects and understand biophilic architecture and design across continents. Through each feature this issue illustrates that design, at every level, can enhance our relationship with the natural environment.
EST MAGAZINE ISSUE 51 | Design Voices In this issue, we’ve let architects and designers do the talking. You’ll hear directly from our esteemed 10 for
We’re celebrating 40 issues of est Magazine in the kitchen, heralding 40 designers who define an era of kitchen design. As a space to connect and collaborate, this issue explores what the kitchen has come to be and how design thinking has evolved through 12 exclusive projects and 70+ kitchens.
Solitary SPACE
Design has never been more pertinent in framing our lives. In this issue, we’re recognising designers at the helm of new ideas, innovation and collaboration. We’re bringing designers to the front in homes, spaces and products that explore living perspectives as we look to the future. Sydney designers Tania Handelsmann and Gillian Khaw resolve a worldly aesthetic inside a Watsons Bay home while further abroad in the Hamptons, we see architect Adam Jordan remain true to a single narrative in a family’s weekender. We step inside the Copenhagen home of one of Denmark’s most influential designers, David Thulstrup, to find meaning in stripped-back, honest materiality and as we start the new year, we recognise est’s best: the Top 10 Australian and international designers, and products. We hope this issue marks a new optimistic chapter in welcoming the New Year.
Our Global Issue cover story is testament that good design stands the test of time – in this instance for the global design director of Google in Silicon Valley. We talk to Australian designers and architects in ‘A Different Corner’ about taking their aesthetic to a global audience and the challenges they face. In ‘Australian Design 2020’ we talk to a different group of designers on how they’re recalibrating after having their plans to show in Milan and ICFF upended by a pandemic. We enter the incredible homes of Gabriele Salvatori in Milan and Pierre Yovanovitch in the French countryside, plus we visit Villa Mandra in Mykonos designed by K-Studio and stop by in Belgium; a perennial design favourite location. We hope you enjoy this virtual trip around the globe with us.
