Are you looking for new exciting ways to learn about writing and earn the Junior Scribe Badge? Did you ever think you could write an author and actually get a response. Rachele the writer of “You Throw Like a Girl” does just that. Because getting to read a book and write a letter to the author is a fun one and this author loves writing to girl troops! Get a copy of the book You Throw Like a Girl for your girls to read and write the author as part of the activities they do earn the scribe badge or other related writing badge. Little about the author, Rachele says. ” I’m a high school English teacher and middle grade author, and GS all my life….yay! My book, YOU THROW LIKE A GIRL, is full of girl power and a message about being yourself. I work with a lot of schools and libraries doing author visits, so I wanted to make something similar available to GS troops, since I loved Scouting. That’s where my “pen pal” program comes in. Your troop/scout first reads my book and then she is welcome to either e-mail or handwrite a letter when she finishes the book that I’ll answer back (especially questions about things that happened in the book or about writing/publishing). It’s a great way to encourage writing and reading, and what is more motivating than connecting with the author!?” How to Write to Author Now that you have the books what do you do? All you have to do is read the book with your girls, then when you are finished, they can write a letter and you can send to her through email or send a letter through snail mail. The letter can be about anything they are wondering….questions about the book, about writing, and about being an author. She will then write back to each of the girls and answer their questions or if you want to do it as a troop, you can have the troop write one letter together. You can purchase the patches through PayPal, they are $2 each which also covers shipping (just let her know the amount you need and she can send you an invoice). And She will also send signed bookmarks to the girls and personalized bookplates to put in their books. How cool is that! When you send her a email requesting the patches and bookmarks send her your address and the first names of the girls so she can include bookmarks and personalized bookplates with the patches. Well, I don't know what happened to the pics of the rest of my mail this week--unless I simply brain farted and forgot to take pics? Uhr-duhr....it's been known to happen. I did have a lot on my mind last week with getting (mentally) prepared for our NYC trip (me? worry? NAH! Okay...yuh....) Nonetheless, I do have a few pics (thank goodness for saving grace...) Tada! This lovely creation is a friendship folder from new penpal Ina from the Netherlands. I've seen so many of these on Instagram lately so I was quite tickled to receive my first one! Now I have to return the favor and make one to send back (and of course others to share with my other beloved penfriends!) A panic picture taken yesterday when I thought I had zero pics to share...yikes! Again, Ina's folder, a super cute thank you card from new friend, Eileen (adorbs!) and a pair of tie die envelope experiments I made this week that turned out so super cool I'll have to make MORE!! Outgoing advertisement envie The two original tie die envies. I started with a pink/red palette for Valentine's day. Loved it so much I had to break out some purple.... Okay, the next two have absolutely nothing to do with mail, just my heart.... Look at this giant lump! He's crushed all the cushions to our (er, his!) sofa! Words simply do not exist for how much I love this dog A gianormous blizzard is en route for later today, tomorrow, and parts of Wednesday. I've waited all winter for some snow--I didn't think they'd save it all up for one blow out event! And, Bug is off school today for a professional development day, not likely to be going to school Tuesday, Wednesday or even possibly Thursday from the looks of what's about to hit the coast this week...Pajama-rama Week!! Stay safe! Stay warm! Happy Mailing!! PS! It is not too late to join me for a Month of Letters! Official mailing begins next Monday! I was asked to clarify: I am NOT assigning pen pals. This is simply an open individual challenge to create and mail 23 pieces of mail love (mailing one piece every day through the month of February-excluding, of course, Sundays and Presidents Day--hence the remaining 23 days...) Zip me a line with your address if you would like to be included on my mailing list!

⋙⋙⋙ reading⋙⋙⋙ I've been scavenging through old keepsake boxes, pulling out and reading through old letters from friends past and present. Reminiscing over old travel photos and more journals I kept during different travelling trips. I'm so happy I kept these journals as they have brought back such beautiful memories that I hadn't remembered in years and years. It's a lot of fun to view the world through 23 year old Louise's eyes again ^.~ ⋙⋙⋙ planning⋙⋙⋙ The wonderful folks at Wholeport sent me these magnificent feathers and an embroidery hoop last month. I'm planning on fashioning a dreamctacher out of these beauties. Keep your eye out for a DIY post very soon! ⋙⋙⋙ watching⋙⋙⋙ Lot's of antiques and wildlife shows with my parents and B-horror movies at night. 'Nude Nuns with Big Guns'. I an't even kidding. ⋙⋙⋙ eating⋙⋙⋙ I posted yesterday about my clean eating regime and I'm still loving every bite, every nut, every berry, lots of green tea...and hot buttered toast with jam, of course! ⋙⋙⋙ writing⋙⋙⋙ No big surprises here, I'm still hooked on my letter writing and I get so excited when a new reader contacts me for a mail swap! ⋙⋙⋙ listening⋙⋙⋙ I'm hooked on Phosphorescent's new album Muchacho, particularly 'Song for Zula' is just heavenly. But I do always come back to this tried and true track 'Wolves' from 2007~ the lyrics are just so perfect. ⋙⋙⋙ learning⋙⋙⋙ {{source}} The truth P.S// don't forget Stars in Jars has a new Facebook page~ let's be friends! .. ▻▻▻◈◅◅◅ ..

A lunch made for one. Cherry blossoms in the wind. Cloud gazing. Map reading and pavement pounding The charm of the tube. I had such a time in London. It's my birthplace, my old haunt, my history. Since I left it to roam and drift around I gave scarce thought to ever returning again. But in the warm, charming little bubble of my birthday visit I found myself falling back in love with the place, enjoying the crowds, the vibe, the unmistakable spirit of the big smoke. I felt home. I love it when birthday gifts filter through long after the day has faded into history... when I returned back to my parent's house in Ireland I had two lovely packages waiting for me. Dallas sent me the sweetest bundle of Korean paper goods and a baby Totoro on a keychain. A little baby Totoro!!! I can't even. Also one of my best friends Jen runs a small print business and had my blog header printed on to a mug for me! It's shameless self promotion but hey, I love it!! hehe!
So just a super quick post .... Here is the other idea of how to use the Filoflex (Flex by Filofax)... Penpal Planner! I'm going to buy another Filoflex to use as a Penpal planner. I thought the Filoflex was really suited for this idea, as it has all the pockets for the things needed to write out letters and send them off. Penpal planner items inside the Filoflex: 'The Penpal Files' Notebook (which has names and addresses in, and a profile page) Envelopes Pretty letter paper or note paper Stamps Address labels Stickers Mail tag cards (Journal cards) Penpal letters received Washi tape Receipts (to keep track who sent to) Inside 'The Penpal Files' notebook Easy to write letters when inside the Filoflex I didn't have pretty paper to use at the time of taking the photos, so can use pretty A5 paper. Stickers & Extras in left side pocket Penpal letters & Stamps/labels in middle pocket Envelopes in right side pocket Everything in the Filoflex Thanks for reading! xoxo If you want to read my Blog post of how I set up my Filoflex as a Weekly Planner, please click here!
