Beautiful expressions centred around the eyes. The works of Author and Artist Alphonso Dunn. Not only does he create art, but has written a book to pass on the wisdom and experiences he has accumulated. Below is a mixture of ink drawings and colors. Some of them are finished, some are WIPs and the rest, minimalist. This third category might look at first glance, like an unfinished drawing, when it's in fact a completed one. As I mentioned at the top, the focus is placed on the eyes. With the other features of the face, playing a supporting actor's role. Many emotions illustrated by clear and meaningful expressions. When we see expressions in people, many of us have a mental and physical response to it. The mental one is more difficult to see, as you have to experience it personally. The physical one can be tested. Have someone else look at these pictures. Don't tell them why and don't stare at them. Notice their expression change, as they go through the images. See if it works... Ps. I gave the images some titles. A happy surprise. Press the Image to Enlarge it. A look of pity. Press the Image to Enlarge it. A moment of anger. Press the Image to Enlarge it. An expression of grief, upon reflection of loss.
The 1990s saw a revival of neo-expressive and neo-figurative painting, wherein the gestural properties of the medium itself again came to the fore. Its exponents worked in tune with tradition and with their attention focused on the expressive potentiality inherent in the medium of painting. That is to say, basic painterly questions were, once again, […]

Los Angeles-based artist and actor Joseph Lee paints thickly layered portraits that mask the details and expressions of his subjects’ faces. His abstracted profiles sometimes reveal a subtle hint of an eye, nose, or ear between multi-colored brushstrokes, and are set against matte backgrounds to make each painting pop. Although the facial expressions are often hidden, the self-taught artist intends to bring emotions to each face through the turn of the head or the line of a jaw. More
Our situation is admittedly dire. Oligarchs are seizing more overt control in most countries in the world, the worldwide economy is on course for another - even bigger - train wreck, countries are cracking down on freedom and becoming more tyrannical, we are in a permanent state of war (and see this), and companies like BP are destroying our natural resources without any checks and balances. But as Andrew Gavin Marshall points out, the elites are actually terrified of the mass political awakening which is occurring worldwide. Marshall collects quotes from flexian Zbigniew Brzezinski - Obama's former foreign affairs adviser, National Security Adviser to President Carter, creator of America's strategy to lure Russia into Afghanistan, and creator of America's plans for Eurasia in general - to make his point. Listen to Brzezinski's own words (consolidated from various writings and speeches, and edited as if they were a single passage): For the first time in history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive. Global activism is generating a surge in the quest for cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world scarred by memories of colonial or imperial domination. For the first time in human history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive. There are only a few pockets of humanity left in the remotest corners of the world that are not politically alert and engaged with the political turmoil and stirrings that are so widespread today around the world. The resulting global political activism is generating a surge in the quest for personal dignity, cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world painfully scarred by memories of centuries-long alien colonial or imperial domination. America needs to face squarely a centrally important new global reality: that the world's population is experiencing a political awakening unprecedented in scope and intensity, with the result that the politics of populism are transforming the politics of power. The need to respond to that massive phenomenon poses to the uniquely sovereign America an historic dilemma: What should be the central definition of America's global role?More Here.. The people in Carl Beazley's portraits seem to be fighting internal battles to hold back their grimaces and make straight faces. His oil paintings feature young people wearing multiple expressions at once. Several small faces inhabit their full-sized heads, each one sending a conflicting signal. Some of Beazley's portraits look like a time lapse of a single gesture, while others are meant to confuse and amuse viewers with their incongruities.
"Bob, igual a nome de cachorro", diz Bob Wolfenson, 62, a uma funcionária do restaurante de comida por quilo próximo ao seu estúdio, na zona oeste de São Paulo. Antes de adotar o "nome de cachorro", o fotógrafo – conhecido por retratos e ensaios de nu da época em que a "Playboy" ainda era a "Playboy" – chamava-se Roberto.
