Best Glamping Ideas! What is glamping? Glamping a fancy version of camping. Top creative camping ideas to enjoy luxurious outdoor living.
My husband and I have a special little hobby we've been indulging ourselves in for over a decade now -Medieval Camping. Yes we know the stigma attached - but really and truly it's fun, creative and relaxing! We've spent quite a few years now creating the perfect romantic, bohemian ambiance for our tent. In order to accomplish this we've re-purposed quite a few thrift/retail store finds to "reenact" the renaissance period to the best of our ability. But before we go any further - check out the video below for a real feel of what Period Camping is all about. Here are some of the thrift/retail store items we've enlisted to help create our bohemian environment. Throw rugs Sheets used as tent decor Old steamer trucks for storage & seating Pier One / World Market wooden bowls Lots & lots of yarn tassels (link to tutorial below) Vintage wood folding chairs Sari fabric - curtains and tent decor Metal & Glass Chandelier - Ikea Sheepskin - for bedding (keeps us warm!) Small Vintage Turkish Rugs made into large throw pillow covers Tons of lanterns And now for the photos! My husband made our bed! It folds down totally flat for storage. Hanging above the bed along the left tent wall is this amazing Ralph Lauren sheet that I found at the thrift store. The large throw pillow at the head of the bed was an old Turkish rug that a backing was added to - so we could slip a pillow in it. The rug on the floor belonged to Mike's great grandmother. It is one of the most beautiful turn of the century rugs I have ever seen - but alas too threadbare to use in our house anymore. However we still get to enjoy it's beauty every time we camp. Here's a broader view of our tent. We have old steamer and handmade wooden trunks doing double duty as seating and storage. I found vintage wood folding chairs with leather seats at the thrift store that are perfect at our "feasting" table. And don't forget the 50+ multicolored yarn tassels that I made to embellish our tent canopy. (link to tutorial below) Our tent illuminated at night! I can't tell you how enchanting it feels when the dark descends upon us and candles & lanterns light up the entire campground. These are tents of friends that we camp with. The yurt on the right was handmade by my friend Pixie and the tent on the far left was also handmade by our friends Nick & Robin. Last but not least - my boys love it when we go camping! If you ever have a chance to visit or camp at a SCA War event - don't hesitate. While it may not be your cup of tea to regularly participate in - it's still a unique event to observe and experience! Here's a great link to a tutorial for tassels. I just replaced the embroidery floss with yarn. http://sew4home.com/tips-resources/sewing-tips-tricks/386-how-to-make-a-tassel

I love high rise living. I have a doorman; someone is always around to sign for packages; there's a fantastic view out of my windows; and being up high means I have fewer bugs. However, I just learned about something that has made me want to chuck living up high and buy a house with a yard. Why? Because I'm dying to own a tent from Boutique Tents. Owner Anne Girault started Boutique Tents after being commissioned to design cabanas for a Tara Guerard event. With her background as an interior designer, Girault mines fashion, travel, and textiles for inspiration. Each tent is made to order, and while there are nine different valances from which to choose, Girault welcomes custom design requests. Can't you see one of these tents by a pool or out on your patio? Wouldn't you feel chic lounging or dining in your very own bespoke tent? I know I would. (For more information, contact Anne Girault at (843) 345-5049 or [email protected]) This tent was designed for an Indian wedding in Charleston. The scalloped trim of the valance and the stenciled design of the ceiling within the tent were inspired by motifs in the wedding correspondence. (Event planner was Blue Moon Event; image courtesy of A. Bryan Photo.) A tent with tassel trim that now lives sans tassels in a downtown Charleston garden. The Madeline tent would look smashing as a poolside changing room or cabana. Anne calls this her homage to Palm Beach style. Love this tent that was used at a wedding. Do you think I should get one for Alfie? (Image at top: a sketch for a custom tent by Anne)

Hello! I hope your week has been going well! My {new} computer caught a nasty virus just before we left for our vacation. Things have not been the same ever since I returned and she is
While New York is focused on Spring 2009, I’m looking forward to the first snowfall. And the second. Although I grew up on the beach, summers in Canada are notoriously short, and our thoughts turn to winter fairly quickly, come September. This fall, I was helped along by the Gorsuch catalogue, purveyor of all things during- and après-ski chic. As you might recall, I have a blatantly Alpine-inspired bag, but I don’t look to Gorsuch for its edelweiss embroidery on shoes, its loden jackets, or its Oleana sweaters (although I *do* have an Oleana blanket. Mine's the red-and-white check). Rather, I focus on the Moncler outerwear, which is usually stylish and sleek. I like Moncler because it’s sporty. I grew up skiing, not downhill, but racing cross-country (I competed in Nova Scotia’s provincials one year, while there in boarding school). The Moncler jacket I’d wear is unfussy, sans hood or fur trim. It’s appropriate on a cross-country trail or while stomping off the snow on your way into Holts for some treats. I’d shove a beret on my head, pull some Norwegian-knit mittens or some long leather gloves, and be ready for winter!

It has been a crazy couple of weeks - weddings, markets, and getting the shop ready for fall! Here are a few pictures of what I've been up to! Kane county flea market... I didn't get many pictures because Mark and I were swamped:) A farm fresh wedding... Lisa and Wayne live on a gorgeous farm which was the perfect spot for a rustic yet romantic wedding! Before Here's Ann helping out - we worked ALL day getting ready for this event! Willow branches and swags of burlap were tied to the perimeter of the tent which really made the tent feel private yet allowed the guests to see the beautiful scenery. We decorated and hung four of these GIANT shades to provide the perfect amount of lighting for guests! The entry was decorated with vintage elements but softened with lace and a chandelier. Vintage ball jars containing flowers from the garden gave the centerpieces the rustic look Lisa was looking for yet the gilded peacocks and peacock feather added a bit of romance. Some of the centerpiece were composed of twigs and paper elements! Mark and I used this vintage gazebo for the ceremony, we decorated it with tulle, burlap, paper and a vintage chandelier. The views were beautiful!! The ceremony was set away from the reception tent and allowed views of the entire property. These barn red vintage chairs were used outside for a lounge area. 3 french hens market.... Our 3 French Hens Market was such a fun time!! We had so many shoppers it was CRAZY!! We ended up having a total of 94 vendors with a great variety! Bright and summery wedding... Working with Julie was so fun and different - usually my customers want a tan and cream color pallette and tons of vintage items. Julie wasn't looking for vintage she wanted vibrant orange, purple, green and pink!! So fun!! I LOVE the green tablecloths we used! Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week! XO Traci
