Please note that this is an instructional pdf download felting tutorial, not a finished product. Nothing will be physically shipped. This tutorial contains all the instructions and guidance you will need to make a 3D felted vessel using the resist method. It is fully illustrated with photographs showing every stage of making your vessel and contains Feltmakers tips to help you along the way. The instructions are suitable for beginners and those with previous felting experience. The instructions are for a bowl shaped vessel with an approximate finished size of 15 cm (6”) in diameter. *Please note: The instructions tell you everything you need to know to successfully make a round vessel using wet feltmaking techniques like the blue one in the main picture. The colour and the design of the vessel you make will depend entirely on the wool you use to make it. The photographs used in the step by step instructions show a vessel being made from natural coloured wools, so these look slightly different from the blue vessel image - but the technique I am teaching is exactly the same. I also provide other photographs of different vessels for guidance. In all my kits and teaching I aim to provide students with all the knowledge they need whilst giving them some freedom for their own creative input, thereby enabling them to make further items and explore possibilities. My tutorials, along with my feltmaking kits have been designed to enable complete beginners to have a go and achieve a successful outcome. I have been teaching feltmaking workshops for 11 years and have used this teaching experience to write the instructions and take photographs to help people be successful at different techniques. Once you have mastered the technique you can increase or decrease the size of the resist, change its shape and play with all sorts of surface embellishments – let your creativity run free and have fun! Praise for my vessel feltmaking kit upon which this tutorial is based: “The kit is superb. I am very wary of kits as they are usually disappointing and to be avoided. Yours in generous in its supply of required materials – plus the instructions are detailed and extensive. What a wonderful gift I was given. Thank you Jennie for making it so good.” A happy customer, 2018 Check out my Online Classes at: https://jennie-loader-studio-learn.thinkific.com/ You may also like to check out my Feltmaking Kits: Felted vessels using British Wool: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/515866813/kit-felted-vessels-bowls-with?ref=shop_home_active_12 Fabulous felted flowers: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/502374702/kit-felted-flower-corsage?ref=shop_home_active_1 Beginners feltmaking for two to share: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/246685069/kit-felting-beginners-for-two?ref=listing-shop-header-1 Wonderful wavy scarves: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/502386064/kit-felted-scarf?ref=shop_home_active_14 Terms: This tutorial has been designed and written by myself and is subject to copyright. Back to My Work
This is my first felt box, the first felt-lined box. And I'm very happy with it. So fun to do. These one, I'll make maney more. This is for me so much more fun, more challenging than a normal box, wich I'll still will be making off course. But this one is very special. I must admit not very quik ready, and a lot off more work. But like I said, lots off fun making it. I even felted with glass beads, witch later are cut open. Sadly 2 of them came totaly loss, yes I've to learn everything. At the lid I've felted a green jaspis and when everything was ready and dry I stitched with beads, Silk yarns and wool and minerals. And this is the result. Greetings from Janine

Here is one of my latest vessels. I call it the fire bowl. I had the idea to make it when I made my Autumnal vessels. I used a Corriedale batt and decorated it with Corriedale and Merino tops. …
This is a gorgeous handfelted vessel which is wet felted with Australian merino wool. This piece is a fun and quirky handfelted wool Vessel with handspun black and white Alpaca Fibre spun by my daughter into yarn (when she was learning to spin) which was used as an interesting textural base in the vessel and embellished with black glass beads. This is a fabulous piece. It would look lovely in a display cabinet or it would be a great centrepiece on the dining room table. I love this and when felting this piece I had an idea of how it was going to come out but the end result was better than I imagined. Thats the wonderful thing about felting, you never quite know what you will get at the end of the process! I love the yarn feature in this piece. I didn't want to throw away this yarn my daughter had made so thought it would be a lovely textural feature in this vessel. This is a great unique gift idea (perfect for christmas) Measurements: 20cm diameter and 7cm tall Care instructions: Cool hand wash only Dry flat in shade Do not bleach Do not tumble dry Do not dry clean Payment by Etsy payments, PayPal or direct deposit is preferred. All items are made in a smoke free home. I also provide a FREE gift wrapping service, just let me know if its a gift. Since I'm still enamored with needle felting, the challenge was on to find a new small gift or ornament to share with co-workers and friends this holiday season. I love the inspiration of working on small, handwork goodies while listening to audiobooks or just relaxing in the evening. If there can be a kitty on my lap at the same time: bonus! Last year's gifts were felted Lake Superior stones and the year before, fairy sparkle felted acorns nestled in hand-gathered Canadian forest caps. They were all hard to part with. Many years ago I saw a tiny felted ring bowl for a wedding gift. It was signed with the couple's initials and a little heart. I never forgot it, and since I have a general bowl/container obsession anyway, I researched how to make needle felted bowls. Several people mentioned using styrofoam balls to get the shape started, so that's what I did. Worked like a charm. It's important to keep flipping the roving as you work it, so it doesn't become permanently attached to the ball. Some of the styrofoam will crumble and attach to your work, but I found that if I kept felting, it fell off or disappeared into the wool. Once the bowl shape was somewhat established, I just worked it in my hand, particularly around the rim. Near the end I added angelina fibers and embroidery, plus beads to add some bling. The felted bowls are lovely just plain, soft and warm, but I can't help myself. What will next year's felting bring? There's a new yarn shop in town, so it seems likely that roving will continue to make its way into my supply stash. Hoping 2016 will be the most creative year ever.
