You're probably going to say what a pity it is that shops like this don't exist any more. Well, the good news is that it does. This is J B Banks & Son of Cockermouth - a 175-year-old business which is a marvel to behold. Tesco or Focus it ain't (thank goodness) with good old fashioned service and every piece of ironmongery you could wish for. The more you look the more you see. The counterweight on the door pulley is an old cartridge of World War I bullets - and there still seem to be some in it so don't shut the door too quickly!
