Ficus elastica 'Ruby', aka the Variegated Rubber Tree, should be kept in a well-lit room and you will be rewarded with beautiful, ornate foliage. These plants prefer bright indirect light, and the more light they get the more vibrant their variegation becomes. Allow the soil to dry out in between waterings as these plants are susceptible to root rot, especially in lower lighting conditions. Misting intermittently is beneficial but not necessary. Fertilize 1-2 times per month during the growing season. Live plants available for Store Pickup or Local Delivery only. Pots sold separately. Shop our Pots + Planters collection here!
Botanical Name: Ficus elastica Common Name(s): Variegated Rubber tree, Ficus Elastica 'Tineke', Rubber plant Description: Native to tropical regions of India and Malaysia, Ficus Ruby 'Tineke' is a hardy, vibrant evergreen plant with green-yellow and white variegation. Care is similar to other rubber plants, but the variegation requires more light than the 'Burgundy' variety. It won't do well in low light spaces, so place in bright indirect light. Water to keep soil moist at all times. Ficus elastica is a source of latex that is toxic to the skin, and poisonous if ingested, so pet-owners and those allergic to latex should be cautious.

Ficus elastica Abidjan - Burgundy Rubber Plant Care & Info Guide Horty Hints Go big or go home! Ficus elastica can grow up to 30ft tall. When desired height is achieved, simply cut the top off. Insufficient light can trigger leaf drop! Find a more suitable location and your plant should quickly recover. Sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems. This can be an irritant, so make sure to wash your hands afterwards. Light Ficus elastica Abidjan prefers bright, indirect light but does cope quite well in lower light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight as this may scorch the leaves. Watering Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil lightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause leaf drop. Temperature Elastica Abidjan does well in normal household temperatures, but prefers slightly warmer conditions: around 16-24°C. Avoid cold draughts. Humidity This Ficus has no specific humidity requirements, although it will benefit from an occasional misting. For an added boost, consider moving your plant to a steamier room such as a kitchen or bathroom. Feed Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
