Nick at FIDM SF Open House 2014---Nick Verreos with FIDM San Francisco 2014 Open House attendees This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of flying to San Francisco to make a "Special Appearance" at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising San Francisco campus and their 2014 Open House. After moving from Caracas Venezuela during my adolescent years, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area--"The Peninsula", to be exact--and so, it's always a fun treat to come back to my old stompin' grounds of San Francisco! FIDM San Francisco is located right in Union Square--a perfect location in the "nucleus" of SF Fashion! Hello FIDM San Francisco: The FIDM Open House is an event that allows incoming students and anyone thinking of attending FIDM to tour the campus, check out the facilities, meet instructors and alumni, as well as get to know the "FIDM" environment. As a bonus of the Open House--and as the FIDM Official Spokesperson (and Alumn)--I did a "Special Appearance" and speech to the FIDM San Francisco Open House attendees. Right when I walked in, I made sure to take a photo of everyone in attendance--FIDM San Francisco 2014 Open House Nick Lecture: During my "appearance", I spoke of how I got to where I am--in terms of my career-- and how FIDM was my "trampoline". I also talked about many other things and gave my "Nick Advice" on how to succeed at FIDM and in the Fashion Industry--and beyond! Pic Collage Time: Nick Verreos MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows last Thursday and Friday, Barker Hangar Santa Monica Last Thursday and Friday, I had the pleasure (and REALLY FUN time!) of MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Shows. FIDM's annual DEBUT Runway Show attracts nearly 10,000 people over three days and features designs by graduating students in FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as work from Interior Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design students. The extravaganza concludes on the third night with the DEBUT Runway Show & Gala, a scholarship fundraising event attended by industry notables, FIDM Alumni, and fashion celebrities. Presenting...Nick Verreos! Making my Runway Stage entrance--with my NIKOLAKI and NV Nick Verreos EVINE Live-dressed models in tow--FIDM DEBUT 2015 Runway Show, Barker Hangar Santa Monica For the last several years, DEBUT has been held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. I was so excited to MC the FIDM DEBUT Runway show once again... I showed a printed twist-knot draped asymmetrical jersey dress worn by Michelle as well as a "Moto" black and white jacket, black jersey top and black jersey track pants--worn by model Katrina Hunter--that will be part of my launch on Saturday May 30th on EVINE Live! Nick Verreos--holds up a FIDM t-shirt to be won at the FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" Continuing with my FIDM 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" (a FIDM "Summer Fashion Camp" where High School students get to enjoy draping, sketching, shopping + much, much more!) blogs--last Wednesday I began my appearances at FIDM Orange County and now, I was off to San Francisco!!! Last Thursday, I flew to one of my favorite cities in the USA (and the world!), to make a "Special Appearance" at the FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising San Francisco campus. Nick Verreos--FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" It's always a treat to fly up North from LA to SF since A) I grew up in the Bay Area and, B) I just LOVE the FIDM San Francisco campus and everyone who works there. Chic Mobile: On my departing Virgin America flight off to SF, I took a photo of my airplane (I'm an airplane aficionado, don't judge!), and didn't realize until I focused on my photo, that the aircraft I was flying on was named "Chic Mobile". Seems very appropriate for me to be flying on this airplane :) I love a "Chic Mobile"! Arriving into SF: Here's the token San Francisco Cable Car pic (of course!). The weather in San Francisco was wonderful, clear and had that "natural air-conditioning" --not too warm and not too cool. Monaco Classy: As always when I am in San Francisco, I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco on Geary Street. My room was colorfully appointed as always, and the staff had a surprise once I returned to my room after my event: a bottle of red wine and chocolate bonbon's and a "Thank You for staying with us" card from the manager. Hashtag Classy. Did I mention I LOVE Hotel Monaco?? If not, I just did. My Event: Arriving: Nick Verreos arriving at the FIDM San Francisco campus for the 2014 Summer Program "3 Days of Fashion" Special Appearance--the FIDM SF campus is located right in the heart of SF's Union Square--a shopping, fashion and style mecca. Say FIDM! There were 150+ attendees at this final day of FIDM San Fracsico's 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" and I was happy to take photos with them--FIDM San Francisco 2014 "3 Days of Fashion" Show Time: As part of my appearance, host/emcee/FIDM 3 Days of Fashion Hottie McHottie Nate Duncan moderated the day, asking me questions about my "Road to Fashion", why I attended FIDM, how I got the most out of FIDM, as well as helped me introduce my NIKOLAKI Collection designs that I brought with me as part of a special "FIDM San Francisco 3 Days of Fashion" runway show... MKT's manager--who just happened from Venezuela (where I was raised), recognized me and is a big "Project Runway/Under The Gunn" fan...and she was kind enough to send Champagne to our "FIDM 3 Days of Fashion table". Muchisimas Gracias MKT! SF Pride: I was sad to leave San Francisco to go back home to Los Angeles after such a wonderful time. The San Francisco Pride Weekend was just beginning coincidentally so I was especially sad that I could not partake in any of those celebrations...maybe next time! San Diego Style: Nick Verreos "Special Guest Appearance" at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days pf Fashion" Hope everyone had a wonderful--and very safe--July 4th Weekend. As you may know (if you have been keeping up with my blog here), for the last two weeks I have been traveling to all the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM campuses for this year's "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Program. Finishing my Blog Recaps of the FIDM "3 Days of Fashion", it's time for FIDM San Diego! 3 Days Nick: Nick Verreos at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days of Fashion" It's always nice to visit the FIDM San Diego campus: my partner--David Paul's--family lives in San Diego so he gets some "family time", and that's always wonderful. In terms of the event, this year's "3 Days of Fashion" was extra special because it was held in the penthouse (15th floor) of the building where the FIDM San Diego campus is at. A DELISH Welcome to San Diego: Wine, cheese, pita bread and berries--My Welcome at Solamar Hotel Kimpton Hotels Petco Park, San Diego In case you don't know, the San Diego campus is right NEXT TO Petco Park (Hello!), and in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in San Diego--the Downtown Gaslamp District. Lots of students attended this year's "3 Days" Summer program and for my appearance, I also brought some of my NIKOLAKI gowns and NV Nick Verreos EVINE LIVE designs.... Nick Verreos--FIDM DEBUT 2017 "Nick Tent"--Barker Hangar Santa Monica Last week, I had the honor of hosting THREE NIGHTS of the fabulous FIDM DEBUT Shows. FIDM's annual DEBUT Runway Show attracts nearly 10,000 people over three days and features designs by graduating students in FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as work from Interior Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design students. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. Hello FIDM San Diego Open House 2014: Nick Verreos and the FIDM San Diego Open House "sign girl"--LOVE her bandana headband and Lycra leggings outfit! This past weekend I drove to San Diego with my NIKOLAKI design partner David Paul (who took A LOT of great pics in this post! Thank You David!!), for my "Special Appearance" at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM San Diego Open House. The FIDM Open House is a way for high school students--and post-graduates--to get to know the FIDM campus, meet Alumni, instructors and take a tour of the campus (amongst many other things!). Welcome Back Nick: The lovely charcuterie and wine that "welcomed" me back to San Diego and the Kimpton Solamar Hotel I arrived the night before my appearance and checked in to the wonderful Kimpton Solamar Hotel, located very near the college. The hotel was so classy in that no sooner I had hung my overnighter garment bag, there was a knock on the door; they had delivered a delicious "Welcome Back to the Solamar Hotel" spread of charcuterie, red wine and bottled water to my room: what a way to start my weekend in San Diego! The food was delicious: Island Prime Restaurant--Salmon and Scallop entrees and the Mud Pie Dessert But more importantly, the ladies ALL wore our NV Nick Verreos dresses. I. Love. Them. And need I add, they got a bunch of compliments on their outfits! Oh, and guess who was there as well: former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates (yes, wearing his neck-brace!). Everyone Say "FIDM San Diego!": Nick Verreos takes a group photo with attendees at FIDM San Diego Open House February 2017 Last week, I had the privilege of traveling to San Diego for the FIDM San Diego Open House. My Alma Mater, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, was holding their Open Houses throughout all its four campuses and as a former grad/alumni and Spokesperson for the College, I got to do my "Open House Talk/Presentation" at the San Diego campus. Open House is a chance for anyone interested in a career in fashion design, social media, styling, graphic design, interior design, digital media, apparel business (as well as many more) to tour the campuses, meet instructors, alumni, and get to find out more about what FIDM offers... In order to travel to San Diego from my home in LA for my appearance, I decided to do something I have never done before in my 30+ years of living in Southern California...TAKE THE TRAIN!!! Train Happy: When I usually have an appearance at FIDM San Diego, I travel by car with my NIKOLAKI partner David Paul (who happens to be from San Diego) but this time, he couldn't come so I had to travel solo and I didn't want to do the 3+ hour--sometimes more--drive by myself so...I realized "hey, maybe I should take the train!". I took the Amtrak "Pacific Surfliner" train from Los Angeles' Downtown Union Station to Downtown San Diego: It was so relaxing and so nice. I got to read my book, relax and nap...and now, I am a CHANGED MAN! On my way to the Open House, there was a small street fair in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year, and I got to snap a photo of this young girl doing something I could NEVER in a million years do: Stretch Princess: Young performer at San Diego Chinese New Year street festival And now, onto the FIDM Open House February 2017 Appearance: Ready for my Open House Talk: Nick Verreos at FIDM San Diego Open House February 2017 Class Is In Session: Nick Verreos during "Special Appearance" Talk/Presentation--FIDM San Diego Open House February 2017 Raffle Fab: So excited that my book "A Passion For Fashion" was one of the Raffle Prizes at the FIDM San Diego Open House February 2017...as well as FIDM branded water mugs, backpack and tickets to the FIDM 3 Days of Fashion. Following my Talk/Presentation, there was a Meet & Greet of course, where I got to take photos, sign books, and meet some of the wonderful attendees of the FIDM San Diego Open House. One of the BIGGEST HIGHLIGHTS of this was reconnecting with someone I had originally met TEN YEARS AGO: Before...and Now: Believe it or not, I met the beautiful--and very tall--young lady on the right TEN YEARS AGO, at a "The Learning Annex" seminar I did in San Diego back in the day when I had just been on "Project Runway". Her name is Hannah and she attended the seminar because she was a big fan and she even got my "Project Runway My Scene Barbie" (from the Challenge I won). To my surprise, Hannah was at the FIDM San Diego Open House and showed me the photo and well, I just about cried! Nick Verreos--FIDM Los Angeles Spring 2015 Open House Last week, as part of "FIDM DEBUT WEEK", I had the honor of MC'ing the FIDM DEBUT 2015 Spring Open House Panel Discussion at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM Downtown L.A. campus and its adjacent Hope Park. The FIDM Open House is a way for high school students interested in following a career in fashion, visual communications, interior design or any of the many, many majors offered by FIDM, to visit the campus, take tours, meet graduates as well as faculty/instructors. Hello FIDM Open House--Nick Verreos hosts the FIDM L.A. DEBUT Spring 2015 Open House Hundreds of students visit from not just California but from many other states including Arizona, Texas, Washington and Nevada. Oh and, yes, the parents come along with the students for these Open House tours. As part of my duties as the Official Spokesperson for FIDM, I received the honor of hosting the Alumni/Current Student Panel Discussion which culminated the FIDM Open House campus events. A Full House--the FIDM L.A. DEBUT Spring 2015 Open House Panel Discussion attendees But, before we could start the Panel Discussion, I have a new "tradition" of hosting a "Dad Runway Walk-Off" contest where I pick--at random--dads in the audience to do a "Runway Walk" and then, by audience applause and screaming (lots of screaming!), we pick our "Grand Winner". The prize: Bragging Rights that they were THE BEST FIDM OPEN HOUSE Dad Runway Divo... Runway Dads: Our "contestants"--Dad's of FIDM L.A. San Diego Style: Nick Verreos "Special Guest Appearance" at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days pf Fashion" Hope everyone had a wonderful--and very safe--July 4th Weekend. As you may know (if you have been keeping up with my blog here), for the last two weeks I have been traveling to all the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM campuses for this year's "3 Days of Fashion" Summer Program. Finishing my Blog Recaps of the FIDM "3 Days of Fashion", it's time for FIDM San Diego! 3 Days Nick: Nick Verreos at FIDM San Diego 2015 "3 Days of Fashion" It's always nice to visit the FIDM San Diego campus: my partner--David Paul's--family lives in San Diego so he gets some "family time", and that's always wonderful. In terms of the event, this year's "3 Days of Fashion" was extra special because it was held in the penthouse (15th floor) of the building where the FIDM San Diego campus is at. Nick Verreos--FIDM DEBUT 2017 "Nick Tent"--Barker Hangar Santa Monica Last week, I had the honor of hosting THREE NIGHTS of the fabulous FIDM DEBUT Shows. FIDM's annual DEBUT Runway Show attracts nearly 10,000 people over three days and features designs by graduating students in FIDM's Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study programs, as well as work from Interior Design, Digital Media, and Textile Design students. In addition to the industry, the runway show is also attended by high school students from around the country, friends and family of the graduating students, fellow FIDM Students, and FIDM Staff and Faculty. But I think I stepped up to the challenge (you'd have to ask the attendees!) And I had lots of fun doing it--which is probably the best thing!
