About The Artwork My work is usually about the fragile balance between men and nature. I find inspiration in the delicate structures of the microscopic world and in the cycle of growth, flowering and decay. I play with the coexistence of attraction and repulsion, allowing the objects to evoke positive and negative feelings. I am known for my tactile approach, playing with texture, experimental techniques and organic shapes. Pods #6698 is a unique piece from the Pods series. Two pieces (35 x 22 x 12 cm and 120 x 40 x 20 cm) are combined. The bright ocher color is vibrant and evokes a positive feeling. The piece can be hung on the wall in different ways, on a hanging hook or nail. This original piece, organic and wabi sabi in style, was originally commissioned by a private collector. The colors, materials, and design were carefully selected and approved before the piece was started. Each of my works is a one-of-a-kind sculptural tapestry created bespoke for your space. Photos can never do justice to the kind of impact these soft and tactile wall hangings have in a room. THIS IS A MADE TO ORDER PIECE. Adjustments to the color palette and design can be made upon request. While my aim in the recreation of a piece is to follow the original design as closely as possible, I also allow for the subtle nuances and one-of-a-kind qualities that arise from the intuitive nature of weaving. Please message me for updated lead times, which typically fluctuate between 3-6 months. "Freemotion II" is an original hand-stitched embroidery on tulle by American artist Andrea Farina. The piece ships in the pictured, simple, white frame and measures 10.25"h x 12.25" w. ABOUT // Andrea is most known for her intricate embroideries and gouache paintings but she continues to experiment with a wide variety of mediums. Much of her work explores the human body and what defines us beyond our anatomy. She often partners vulnerable figures with intimately detailed patterns to give these intangible entities a physical form. In 2008, Andrea graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in Communication Design. By day she works as a Creative Director and spends nights and weekends pursuing her creative" passions at Firing Circuits Studios in Norwalk, CT.
One of my latest figurative works and one of the pieces I am painting in acrylics as well. The main show for this pairing of dolls and paintings will be at Place des Arts, Coquitlam, BC, in March 2…

In her salient text, In The Wake: On Blackness and Being, scholar Christina Sharpe delves into the multiple definitions of “wake,” which span from “the path behind a ship, keeping watch with the dead, (to) coming to consciousness.” “In the wake,” Sharpe writes, “the past that is not past reappears, always, to rupture the present.” Largely focused on conversations around anti-Blackness and continued violence, the book is rooted in the afterlife of slavery and what sentiments, practices, and memories linger into the current moment, questions that similarly ground the work of artist Nastassja Swift. About The Artwork This sculpture is based on an idea of an abstracted heart shape. It consists of painted silk, thread, beads, plastic string, yarn, and polyfill stuffing. It is meant to express the beauty and hope the heart continues to hold even when constrained or experiencing struggle. There is much surface embellishment, lovingly hand-sewn and applied, lending tactile interest and textural contrast. It can be wall mounted or set on a pedestal. There is no hardware; the strings on this piece can be used to simply hang the work. Hungarian artist Agnes Herczeg creates figural lace works of female forms, capturing figures in moments of contemplation or work. In one piece the subject stands at a loom, appearing to weave herself from the included fibers. In each of her works Herczeg uses all natural materials, incorporating small pieces of wood or other found materials to serve as a sculpture’s bed frame, hair accessory, floating vessel, or small shelf. Herczeg studied textile conservation at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, and over the years has gathered several methods of embroidery and lace-making to use in her work such as needle lace, pillow lace, macramé, and more. About The Artwork Large soft sculpture made of artisan felt inspired by processes of growth and reproduction. This piece is created by felting natural colored high quality merino wool. Felt is a soft, strong non woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing wool fibres. It's a labor intensive process that takes a lot of time and patience. Sonja Cabalt's work is usually about the vulnerability of people and nature. She finds inspiration in the delicate structures of the microscopic world and in the cycle of growth, flowering and decay. This one-of-a-kind fibre art piece has been created from hand-dyed cheesecloth and thread waste that have been needle felted to a patchwork black cotton base. Additional stitching has created circular sinkholes and a trail of garnet seed beads drifts from the background into and over the design, picking up the colour of some of the threads. The cheesecoth has been dyed in shades of green and the thread waste has a variety of colours including red, blue, yellow and purple along with a few metallic fibres. The asymmetrical olive green inset picks up one of the shades of the cheesecloth. I hope you will click on the photos to see the details. This abstract art is been backed with quilt batting and wrapped onto an 11" x 14" (28 x 35.5 cm) stretched canvas and it hangs like a painting on your wall . . . with the edges neatly covered. The title and my name and location are on the back of this piece but I did not sign the front as you might like to hang it with a different orientation than I have chosen. Thanks so much for looking! About The Artwork “I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have been seen done, of everything done-to-me. I am everyone everything whose being-in-the-world affected was affected by mine. I am anything that happens after I'm gone which would not have happened if I had not come.” ― Salman Rushdie, Midnight's Children This unique piece, one of a series of three, is an exploration of the experience and memories of others, imagined and real, fused seamlessly with Mackie's own through the salvation, destruction and re-contextualizing of materials. Mackie's use of antique textiles in her work, along with traditional techniques, such as embroidery, tapestry and applique create an ongoing dialogue, a tension, between materialism and value, consumerism and memory.
