TECHNOLOGY BEHIND, INTERVIEW JUDGMENTS AND TALENT Job interviews often rely on a few minutes of conversation, yet they attempt to predict years of performance, making them prone to bias and error. Psychological studies show that first impressions, body language, and confidence often outweigh actual skills in an interview setting. Many highly talented individuals perform poorly in interviews due to stress, introversion, or lack of verbal fluency, leading to misjudgment. Some candidates excel at interviews by using rehearsed responses and charisma, yet they may lack the real skills needed for the job. Stressful environments sometimes bring out hidden talents that a calm interview setting cannot reveal, making field tests or real-world scenarios more effective. AI-driven interview analysis tools claim to assess facial expressions, voice tone, and micro-expressions, but they often reinforce biases rather than eliminate them. The halo effect causes interviewers to judge a candidate’s entire capability based on one strong or weak trait, leading to unfair hiring decisions. Many top-performing professionals, including Einstein and Edison, would likely have failed modern interviews due to their unconventional thinking and communication styles. Some of the most successful companies now use problem-solving tasks, simulations, and trial projects instead of traditional Q&A interviews. Research suggests that hiring based on work samples and practical tests is far more reliable than interviews alone in predicting job success. Unstructured interviews, where discussions flow naturally, often lead to less biased and more accurate talent assessments than rigid, scripted questioning. The best way to judge talent is through real-world challenges, where individuals must adapt, think critically, and perform under pressure, revealing their true capabilities. | 135 comments on LinkedIn
