Cornelis le Mair (Eindhoven, July 3rd 1944) is a Dutch painter. This Romantic painter is famous because of his 17th century paintings. As a child, Le Mair already developed a talent for drawing. After completing high school he went to study at the art academy in 's-Hertogenbosch where he hoped to improve his painting techniques. He left the academy because, in his opinion, "free expression" was taught almost exclusively. He was advised to transfer to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where the old painter's craft would still be learned. In professor Victor Dolphijn he found a teacher in the art of craftsmanship of old masters. In 1968, Le Mair graduated cum laude in the field of portrait, still life and figure painting. In 1973, Le Mair established himself as an independent painter in an old farmhouse in the vicinity of his hometown Eindhoven. He calls the style in which he works traditional-traditional. His work is described by art critics as not very innovative. With the general public, however, he is successful and receives many commissions for portraits. He has also arranged exhibitions in galleries and museums that attract many visitors. In addition to his profession, painting portraits, figures, still lifes and a single landscape, he is involved in periods with architecture, making images, building musical instruments and making furniture. He also has several publications on painting to his name.
"Bouquet of Flowers in a Stone Niche," by Ambrosius Bosschaert (1618) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.38" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 9.81" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 11.88" x 17") • 20" x 30" (Image: 16" x 22.81") • 24" x 36" (Image: 19" x 27.13") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- You can almost catch the fragrance of the flowers and feel the freshness of the dew against your face. The shadow case by the bouquet creates undulating contours on the curves of the stone niche in which the vase is placed. The architectural frame provided by the niche follows the dimensions of the painting itself, and were it not for the heavy ornamental frame one might mistake it for a real niche at a glance. This optical illusion or trompe l’oeil effect is accentuated by a yellow rose lying next to the vase, extending beyond the edge of the stone niche. In the wake of a number of factors – e.g. the Calvinist rejection of church decoration and the greater wealth of the middle classes – a number of new themes and subjects were introduced on the Dutch art market in the early 17th century. Ambrosius Bosschaerts was one of the first painters to make flowers a motif in its own right within the still life genre. During the 17th century the genre was associated with a set of moralizing undertones. For example, tulip bulbs were costly investment objects, so multi-colored tulips were frequently used as a memento mori – a reminder that life is short. (Text by the National Gallery of Denmark.) ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.
About The Artwork In the 19th century, when the symbolism of flowers gave rise to a peculiar phenomenon in ethics called “floral flirting,” before the engagement, a girl could only be presented with violets, lilies of the valley and forget-me-nots. A presented bouquet of May lilies in the language of flowers meant: “I have long and secretly loved you.” Original Created:2023 Subjects:Still Life Materials:Canvas Styles:ContemporaryFine ArtModernPhotorealismRealism Mediums:Oil Details & Dimensions Painting:Oil on Canvas Original:One-of-a-kind Artwork Size:12 W x 16 H x 1 D in Frame:Gold Ready to Hang:Yes Packaging:Ships in a Box Shipping & Returns Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments. About The Artwork When spring comes, nature wakes up and gives us flowers. All plants and trees bloom in different colors and this play of colors awakens the desire to capture this beauty. The photographer takes the camera, and the artist takes the brushes and paints. Still life originates from the 17th century and becomes an integral part of the painters. Every spring I want to capture this extraordinary color harmony and this encourages me to paint a still life to leave a piece of blooming spring on canvas and in my memory. This painting I painted with oil on canvas, it's unframed but I painted edges with dark grey color. Painting will be send by courier with properly packed securely box. CASTEX-DEGRANGE Adolphe-Louis (1840-1918) "Bunch of flower in a copper vase" Oil on canvas signed low right Old frame gilded with gold leaves Dim canvas : 65 X 81 cm Dim frame : 85 X 102 cm CASTEX-DEGRANGE Adolphe-Louis (1840-1918) 19th century - French. Born on May 23rd, 1840 in Marseille (South France). Died in 1918. Genre paintings, landscapes, Still life, flowers, caricatures. In spite of his preference for a military career, it was sent; in 1853, at the school of "Beaux Arts de Lyon" where he studied under the direction of Vibert, Reignier, then L. Guy. Admitted first of all in the workshop of engraving, he continued his studies in class of flowers, before becoming draftsman of factory. He took part in the Art Fair of Lyon starting from 1876 and Art fair of Paris starting from 1870. In 1876, he settled in Paris, for decoration work, then during three years, ceramic work. He returned to Lyon in 1884 to succeed Reignier as drawing-master and as painting of flowers and composition applied to fabric. Apart from his floral compositions, Castex-Dégrange is the author of genre scenes, decorative works, in particular for the town hall of Lyon and the prefecture of the Rhone. He also made caricatures and landscapes. However, he remains the archetypal painter of flowers, renewing this art by giving him a new decorative style, of a vigorous key, in rich and luminous colors which go hand in hand with the prosperity and the industry of silk.
