- rare vintage Marboux round brooch with matching clip-on earrings - designed by Marcel Boucher (learn more about him and Marboux below) - gold tone with swirl pattern; crystals in the middle of each piece - each marked on the back with "Marboux" in a cartouche, a sign of one of Marboux's earlier pieces (1930s)* - back of brooch also has a tiny "AC" etched in - lovely sparkle, nice size and weight - all of the stones are the originals - brooch is missing one of the smallest stones - some fine, minor scratches on brooch - one earring is missing one stone, the other two stones - could be easily repaired with replacement crystals by an experienced jeweler or jewelry maker (reflected in the price) - looking for more images? We're happy to share more. - size: brooch 1 1/4 inches in diameter; earrings 3/4 inch in diameter About Marboux Parisian-born designer Marcel Boucher's career in the world of jewelry began at Cartier in Paris where he was a mold-maker and apprentice designer. In the 1920s he transferred to Cartier in New York. During the depression, he independently explored creating more affordable jewelry and, in 1937, formed Marcel Boucher Ltd. Novelty Jewelry. By the end of the war, Marcel Boucher & Cie. *Starting in 1955, the "c" for copyright was incorporated into the maker's mark. During the war, Boucher lived in Mexico and released his beloved Parisina line. After the war, Sandra Raymonde Semensohm (from Harry Winston and Tiffany) became Boucherl's assistant. They married in 1964 but, sadly, Marcel Boucher died the following year. Semensohm sold the business to Davorn Industries in 1970. In 1979, the business was sold to D'Orlan Industries of Toronto, who continued to use Marcel's molds until 1984. Boucher was known as one of the most talented designers of American costume jewelry in the 20th century. The intricacy of his designs and quality materials used (gold plate, rhinestones, cultured pearls, sterling silver and more) meant his pieces were regularly mistaken for precious jewelry instead of costume.
