KJ Kearney started a petition to get the Square Dance removed as South Carolina's official folk dance and to replace it with V.I.C.'s song The Wobble. Kearney says the dance's link with Henry Ford gives it an anti-Semitic past.
This cool old footstool has a charming folk art hand painted top featuring a winter village scene with a horse and sled. Structurally solid with all joints secure and strong, the wood base was painted a dark green color and there are minor abrasions, nicks, old chips, and wear on some edges. The folk art painting on the top is largely intact, with no paint loss or flaking. Unsigned. The foot stool measures about 14 1/4" long by 6 3/4" wide and by 7 3/8" high. It stands evenly and without rocking and the legs are solidly attached with no wiggle or wobble. Very nice one-of-a-kind piece of American country folk art. In fair condition. Wobble-Inn is home to the Jelley family in Northland, New Zealand. The Pod was constructed by co-author Dr Grahame Jelley to provide visitor accommodation for family and friends who choose to take a break from the 'big smoke' syndrome of Aucklanders or just those folk wanting to get some peace and quiet from busy life-styles.
Please read the full description and review all photos. I want you to be happy with your purchase. A most unusual Russian nevalyashka wobble toy--this one has a squeaking mechanism as well when the doll's head is depressed. I've not been able to find another like it in my research. 6 1/2" tall x 4" across and in very good vintage condition. The yellow acetate (?) bow appears to be original, and painted face details are especially striking. Expect typical mild surface wear. Great addition to your vintage toy collection, for nursery decor, or to entertain a baby who is able to sit unaided. As always, though, use reasonable caution and supervision. Last photo shows a smaller, older roly-poly toy available in a separate listing: www.etsy.com/listing/1331657160/russian-ukrainian-bulgarian-celluloid EXCESS SHIPPING/PACKAGING COSTS PROMPTLY REFUNDED IF OVER $1.00, AND I COMBINE SHIPPING WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

Is this guy not a riot?!! I love his kick-y boots and that cheesy grin (plus the wobble I put on his back) ... and suddenly he is just the perfect image!! I also wanted to show that "Chet" wasn't afraid to show his softer side too, so he's got a pink background. I'm joining in the wiggle-wobble challenge over on the Art Impression blog.
A wonderfully decorative set of five faux bamboo frames with original mirrors, made in France in the mid 19th century. The frames (typically fruitwood), are turned to mimic bamboo, and look fabulous especially when grouped together. As these are pieces of Folk Art, no two pieces are exactly the same. There are two near pairs, and one smaller frame, all with foxing to the glass and with period chains. At least two of the frames have Mercury glass, as they have an obvious ‘wobble’ to the mirror. Mirror makers stopped using mercury in the 1840s, instead switching to silver nitrate, which is how mirrors are made to date. In very good period condition with a lovely patina, no repairs, just simply lightly polished and ready to hang. CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - While The Shag may be the official state dance in South Carolina, the official state folk dance in South Carolina, set by Act Number 329, is the square dance. There’s a petition to change the dance circling around the Lowcountry.

This cute country footstool was found in a northeast Pennsylvania farmhouse. It appears handmade and hand painted, and is one of a kind. The footstool is in good condition, with no structural problems or weaknesses. The slanted legs are securely attached with no wiggle or wobble, and it appears that the leg slant was intentional. The decorative paint has worn in a few small spots and the top shows some scratches and scuffs. The still life motif decorating the top is hand painted. The perimeter decoration and the decoration on the side panels are also hand painted, and all of the paint shows fading and wear. There is a maker's mark underneath, from Ebersol of Intercourse, PA, and much of the maker's stamp has faded. The footstool measures 11 3/4" long by 6 3/4" wide by 7" high, and it weighs about 2 pounds. In good condition. Our Daily Challenge "Eccentricity" 131/365 Eccentricity is the measurement of an object's orbit of rotation. If the object is not truly centered, then the surface does not follow a uniform path during rotation....i.e. it wobbles. This is a bobbin winder "hack" that I designed after a $200+ model out of weaver's supply catalogue. Hubby and I worked together finding parts and he assembled it out of scrap lumber, a recipe box, a spare small appliance motor, and a rheostat. To dress it up, I did the folk art painting and gave it a wax finish. It ended up costing around $10 for parts that we didn't already have. I use this to wind thread onto the bobbin that is used inside the weaving shuttle. To do this by hand would take forever so this gadget is a big help. The photo shows it in motion without the end of the bobbin properly plugged in to the part on the left, which is in its position to fit a longer sized bobbin whereas it would be held in a horizontal plane and wouldn't wobble at all.
