About Small still life oil painting on panel of red meat oil on panel 12 x 12 inches As part of his "Staples" series, this painting highlights the beauty of objects found in our everyday lives. These unique paintings, while painted in a highly realistic style, have a true painterly quality to them. Hopkins' markings give life to these inanimate objects and uses a subtle color pallet with pops of vivid color in order to beautifully capture the light that adds radiance and drama to a simple and humble dish, or a cut of meat. About the artist: Matthew Hopkins is a contemporary American painter who grew up on Long Island, spent his summers in the Thousand Islands and has since settled in between. His schooling includes the Rochester Institute of Technology, Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and the College of Saint Rose in Albany. His paintings in both watercolor and oil have been exhibited and honored in numerous regional and national exhibitions and are held in many private collections. He lives in Ames, NY with his wife and four children.
