Instead of cleaning up moulds and moisture without ever giving it a second thought, Lizan studies the patterns, colours and contours of these compositions and recreates them in wool. ‘

Typically focusing on obsolete or decrepit architectural structures, photographer Chris Payne‘s most recent project, Textiles, documents the aesthetics of the colorfully-hued American textile industry. His photographs showcase the bright runs of yarn and thread as the materials make their way through the hyper-organized machinery, appearing digitally altered in their extreme hot pinks, vibrant reds, and electric blues. Payne began photographing the factories and mills in America’s Northeast in 2010. The images are not just snapshots of the industry, but photographs that sometimes took months to catch. More

'Here Today' is my new tapestry inspired by a rock formation at the end of the Tennessee Valley Trail in Marin County, California. With a little research I found out that this sedimentary formation is called 'Ribbon Chert,' formed millions of years ago under the sea. It contains billions of microscopic fossils. The fossils are skeletons of single-celled plankton, called radiolaria. These plankton are most common in nutrient-rich ocean waters. Like quartz, radiolarian skeletons are made of silica. When radiolaria die, their tiny skeletons fall to the ocean floor, forming an ooze. This ooze eventually hardens into rock. The chert forms horizontal layers about 5 –15 cm thick. It took about 1,000 years for a 1mm thickness of chert to form! When the flat layers of rock are carried on a tectonic plate, they may collide with the edge of a continent. This slow collision will bend and fold the layers. It was these rhythmic layers that caught my attention. Here is another close up. yes, it is right way round... I took a lot of photographs and began sketching out an idea. I liked the 'ribbonness' and the scale of the project. A concern was how to make the ribbon area more interesting. I wanted shading and movement without a lot of time consuming weaving. I settled on space dying the yarn to create a dark / light rhythm and supplement it with additional colors. Here are a few preparation processes. The loom was warped and ready to go. Cartoon drawn out on butcher paper and the table laden with my yarn palette. The tapestry grew slowly but I was pleased with the start of it. Because this one is large at 72" (182 cm) in height, it is always hard to keep track of the color shifts because you cannot see the whole tapestry all at once (because the woven area is rolled up on the cloth beam). I had to devise a way to keep track of the different blendings I made and be sure that the values shifted where and when I wanted them to. It was called 'Tennessee Valley' as a working title. (There was a ship that sank off this bay called the Tennessee) At the end I decided to call it 'Here Today' because the rocks are always changing. Last year a large arch near this area collapsed sending tons of rock and debris down onto the beach and into ocean. Here is the final Tapestry and a detail on the stripes made by the space dying. Here Today I look forward to doing more with this idea as it has given me a lot of inspirations. I welcome your comments and questions.

NOSH SS2016 Naisten mallisto Tervetuloa kevät ja ihanat uutuudet! Noshin kangasmallisto se vain paranee paranemistaan. Ja itseäni viehättää juurikin aikuiseen makuun oleva kangastarjonta.Yhteensopivia kankaita, niin kuosien kuin yksiväristenkin kankaiden suhteen. Uutuuksiin pääset tutustumaan suoraan tämän linkin takaa, Klik. Värihaasteen tiimoilta blogi vihertää huhtikuussa, joten valitsin tätä teemaa silmällä pitäen kankaat blogiyhteistyön merkeissä. Kummasti ostoskoriin päätyi muutakin, mutta niistä sitten jossakin vaiheessa enemmän. Kide- kuosi, yksi suosikkini NOSHI:n valikoimista. Ajaton, monikäyttöinen, puhutteleva, tyylikäs, laadukas. Petrooli on kaunis ja sekä sinisestä, että vihreästä pitävän pettämätön valinta. Aluksi luulin, että kuvio on musta, mutta lähemmin tarkasteltuna se on tummansininen. Sehän passaa ainakin minulle. Kaavana tässä tunikassa on itselleni piirretty +8 väljyysvaroilla oleva mekkokaava. Pienensin hieman väljyyksiä, mutta tulin siihen lopputulokseen, että on syytä piirtää vain uusi kaava, jotta suhteet tulevat oikein (etenkin hihaan, sen istuvuuteen en ole vieläkään tyytyväinen). Etukappaleen väljyydet ovat rintamuotolaskoksessa ja pitkittäin taskun yhteydessä olevassa muotolaskoksessa. Takakappaletta kavensin, mutta se olisi kyllä vaatinut keskitakasauman, jotta väljyydet olisi saanut ristiselän kohdalta pienemmäksi. Kehittelin vyön, mutta minun tasapaksulle vartalomallilleni ei vyötäröllä oleva vyö sovi. Väljistä malleista, jotka kuitenkin mukailevat vartalon linjaa, tykkään tällä hetkellä todella paljon. Olen myös jumittunut näihin halkioihin pääntiellä...Hihat ovat 3/4 mittaiset, eli kesää kohti ollaan menossa. Muita uutuuskuuoseja ovat Romanssi ja Juhla, molemmissa upeita värejä. Mukana kulkevat aina moni-ilmeiset raidat ja yksiväriset jerseyt, joustocolleget ja farkkucollege. Näistä on helppo koota itselleen sopiva kangaspaketti, jonka kanssa ei tarvitse yhteensopivuuksia miettiä. Laatukin on aina taattu. Tämä vihreä on enemmänkin minun loppukesän värini. Silloin, kun aurinko on pienen päivetyksen kasvoille ja käsivarsiin tatuoinut. Mutta siis vuodesta toiseen, yksi lempivärini on tämä: Maastonvihreä, khaki tai oliivi, rakkaalla lapsella on monta nimeä <3 Punaisesta myös tuo tämän kevään mallistossa oleva sävy "Tomaatti" on yksi suosikkini . Tämän väriyhdistelmän näenkin juuri loppukesän tomaattisadon aikaan. Tämä setti on täynnä kokeiluja, suurimpana mainittakoon housut, jossa on kaikki ne elementit, jotka housuihin kuuluvat: taskut, vetoketjuhalkio, vyötärökaitale, puntteja unohtamatta. En ole housuja tehnyt moneen vuoteen, joten ylitin ja haastoin itseni. Ei näistä ihan superit tulleet, mutta käyttökelpoiset kylläkin. Kankaana oliivi farkkucollege. Hain tuollaista väljempää "boyfriend"-mallia. Pohjana tässä on SKK:n 1/16 malli 3 housut. Takakappaletta on kavennettu ja haarakoukkua on lyhennetty oikeaoppisesti (-89 muistiinpanoja seuraten). Lisäsin myös takakaarrokkeen. Vetoketjuhalkio jäi turhan ylös ja takataskut olisvat voineet olla pyöreähköt etutaskujen muotoja mukaillen. Vyötä on pakko pitää, sillä vyötärön seutu jäi liian väljäksi. Teini ilmoitti kuvauksen tiimellyksessä, että sen vyön pitäisi myös näkyä. Hauska ja opettavainen kokeilu oli tämä, ehkäpä tästä intoudun myös housuja tekemään ja myös peruskaavat niistä itselleni piirtämään. Oliivi, napakka ja hauskasti siftaava, jersey. Siitä tuli pusero. Olen tehnyt tytölleni muutaman tunikan tällaisella puoliraglanilla. Päätin sitten kokeilla sitäkin itselleni. Olemme kyllä niin eri puista veistetyt M:n kanssa. Hänellä on kapeat hartiat, minulla ladonovet, hänellä pyöreä peppu, minulla lattana, vatsa on kuitenkin molemmilla pömpöllään :D. Pienet rintamuotolaskokset oli pakko lisätä, vaikka ei se tällaisessa väljässä mallissa kai niin tarkkaa ole? Paidan punainen lanka tuli myös muistikirjassa olevasta ideasta, joka on odottanut tovin ilmentymistään. Tätä voi kait alikempeluksi sanoa, chenille-tekniikkaa tässä hain, vaikka kerroksia on vain yksi. Yksi intohimoni on kankaan struktuuri, siksi pidän neuleista. Koska ompelen, on keksittävä ideoita, jolla tätä struktuuria pääsen ilmentämään. Vihreän kankaan alla on punainen pala. Ompelin ensin sen ulkoreunnojen mukaan kiinni ja sitten aloin vaan tikkaamaan ompeleita poikkisuunnassa. Päätin nukkua yön yli ja sakset otin käteen, kun sain aamusilmät parin kahvikupposen jälkeen auki. Aukileikkausten jälkeen silitysraudan höyry täysille ja koskematta kankaaseen annoin höyryn tehdä tuon rullaantumisen. Paranee varmasti myös pesun jälkeen. Tämä oli myös sellainen terapiaompelus, sillä sielu tuntuu olevan välillä ihan vereslihalla. Jos et ole ompeluihmisiä tai haluat saada laadukkaita ja kestäviä vaatteita vaatekaappiisi, niin katsasta Nosh:n valmisvaatetarjonta tai järjestä vaatekutsut. Pikkukakkosen vinkeissä oli viime kesänä tällainen idea: Maalaa pikkukiviä muistuttamaan mansikkaa ja laita ne mansikkamaalle.
