In 1927, Wright submitted a series of cover designs for Liberty Magazine. All four designs were rejected by the editors at the time who deemed them too "radical", and the covers were never published. One of those designs, "Saguaro Forms and Cactus Flowers", depicts Wright's interpretation of a desert landscape. Although initially disregarded, the image is now one of Wright's most popular designs and was later transformed into a stained-glass feature of Arizona's famous Biltmore Hotel lobby. Re-imagined as a ceramic tile, Saguaro 🌵 reflects Wright's stylized vision in a unique colorway. Actual tile size measures approximately 5.875"x7.875". >Handcrafted in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

A well-preserved mid-century prefab home in New York designed by prolific architect Frank Lloyd Wright hit the market this week.
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized worldwide as one of the greatest architects of the 20th century. Built in 1907 in Riverside, Illinois, the Avery Coonley House is a grand Prairie-style residence designed by Wright for Avery and Queene Coonley. As was the case with all Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, the home's exterior and interior were envisioned and executed as a unified whole. In addition to the main house, the estate included sunken gardens, a gardener's cottage and a coach house. Wright's drawing of a tile frieze for the Coonley House was the basis for Motawi Tileworks' 4x4 Avery Tulip art tile. While the drawing was never executed on the house, the design remains an early example of Wright's geometric nature abstractions. Â

Believing that the architect should create total environments, Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs included art glass windows, furniture, and lighting. This decorative tile is based on the abstract sumac motif used throughout the Wright-designed Dana-Thomas House. The House was built for Susan Lawrence Dana, a social activist and socialite, in 1902. Because of the unlimited budget of his patron, Frank Lloyd Wright created some of his finest and most detailed art glass compositions for the elaborate home in Springfield, Illinois. Many are geometric abstractions of natural elements with the Midwestern sumac plant as the primary motif. The natural form has been interpreted, reduced to its basic geometry, and used in a variety of ways on more than two hundred windows, doors, skylight panels, and light fixtures throughout the home. The rich amber and brown palette mirrors the autumnal color scheme of the prairie. Handcrafted in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
