Do you see a mask? Or a painting of a mask?
Brooklyn-based artist Kip Omolade creates large-scale oil paintings of chrome masks, depicting not only the subtle details of female faces, but incorporating the reflected environment of each piece. The series, entitled Diovadiova Chrome, makes reference in part to historical African sculptures, while exploring contemporary aspects of identity, luxury, and immortality. Each piece begins as a mold and cast taken from an actual model which is then utilized as source material for Omolade’s towering paintings which can measure several feet tall. More

Joshua Flint (previously) paints scenes in relationship to the way we access old memories in our mind, blurring motions and obscuring the identities of his works’ subjects. The visual narratives are not linear, but rather create a surreal mash-up of landscapes and worlds, sourcing inspiration from digitized museum archives, vintage shops, and social media. “The paintings fluctuate between the familiar and the unknown while simultaneously including the past and present,” said Flint in an artist statement. This painting is truly a “stroke” of genius.
About The Artwork The history of art is mostly based on art criticism of the destruction of beauty, and it often happens that we do not ask artists of civic art to fit into many other forms of sacredness in everyday life, and such themes have been transformed into a new quality by great painters. Honestly, as a comparison we should mention the example of the design of the Chapelle du Rosarie by the artist Henri Matisse (1869–1954) in Vence on the French Riviera. This sacral space, renowned as one of the most famous modern sacral spaces, illuminated by designed stained glass windows of a great French artist, was created in almost the same decade in which Ivo Dulčić in the then Socialist Republic of Croatia creates far better and more miraculous solutions of stained glass and frescoes in Croatian churches. only the Church of Our Lady of Health in Split, that is, the revolution in sacral art on the other side of the "Iron Curtain". We have presented all this in order to better understand the artist Eugen Varzić. He imitated, and imitates, the old masters, trying in the museums of Europe to come into direct contact with the great masters and their painting techniques. Rubens and Velázquez certainly occupy a special place in the research focus of Varzić's interest in achieving artistic excellence. Las Meninas, Velázquez's masterpiece, has always aroused great interest in art critics, so Fritz Saxl wrote: "We are confused because we feel that Velázquez suddenly transformed this genere theme into a representative court image." Achieving representativeness from ordinary motives, ordinary people , and the transformation into a new category of values is a feature of Varzić 's style of painting. About The Artwork Size: 55.5x45.5x2.5cm Medium: oil on canvas Year: 2013 Frame: unframed Condition: ready to hang Signature: signed on the back I was always fascinated by Brutalist Architecture, by the way it seems out of place in most places, by the way it seems to degrade in time, to disintegrate and return to a natural, mineral state. Some of these derelict buildings remind me of sculls or look like they have different facial features. I'm fascinated by the power of suggestion so typical of abstract imagery, rather than the concreteness of realism. This oil painting was created in 2013, it comes unframed, signed on the back, with a Certificate of Authenticity, in excellent condition. About The Artwork The upper half of this strong and expressive painting is dominated by light colours, creating a semi-circle around the figure of mother that bended above her child. The woman’s protective posture seems to glow with parental love and care. The baby is depicted in unnaturally white colour, symbolising purity and innocence. Pink air balloon in the child’s hand (Zakhar likes to use this symbol in his artworks) reminds us of childhood dreams and fantasies. Contrasting, predominantly dark foreground is the reality of surrounding world that is full of danger and unpleasant events. Nevertheless, this world is also filled with different bright and interesting colours for the child to discover and to learn… This painting will be shipped rolled in a tube because of its large size. Rolled artworks can easily be re-stretched. Certificate of Authenticity is included.
