At high school there really wasn't a single subject that I could say I loathed. In every single class there would be someone there that could make me laugh and if there was one lesson that I could always be relied up on to say that I enjoyed it, it would definitely have been art. In theory art is a very easy subject, it is something that only requires time and practice. At my school at least, it was a very calm and enjoyable lesson. I think the one thing I would say if you decided to take this subject is to make sure that you complete all coursework to a high standard on your first time round and don't fall behind. It stopped being so easy when I had a week before GCSE exams started and I still hadn't finished my coursework, let alone considered revising. Despite all of this, it is still a subject I would recommend doing. Just look at your school's art work and see if it inspires you first. There were three projects and an exam that I had to do to a certain standard in order to get an A*. This was the first one: Natural Forms. I am glad that I did all of this, it gives me a lot to be proud of and has also helped me to improve greatly. Even though I would have approached each project differently looking back, I am still so happy with all I achieved over the two year course.

Sketchbook refrence work, a page looking into botanical illustration from over the years. I have used a cross section of media including watercolour and fineliner. Using different paper to work on has also been an essential part of these pages as I have experimented on working on sugar paper, newspaper and others. Finnish artist Raija Jokinen creates sculptural bodies out of flax which attempt to reveal the complicated relationship between the mind and body. Webs of flowers, veins, and roots cover her textile torsos, shape-shifting between plant and human forms. Jokinen invites the audience to get lost in these visual similarities, as she makes no distinction between whether the pieces are actually nerves or sprouting tree branches. “It is fascinating how body-related details, such as skin, blood vessels, and nerve tracks resemble the forms of roots or branches, as well as many other organic things,” Jokinen told Colossal.
