The Mosel valley is home to some of Germany’s most charming towns, with cobblestone streets and storybook castles. One of the most charming fairytale towns we’ve visited is Beilstein, which is known as the “Sleeping Beauty of the Mosel” as well. Day trip to Beilstein Germany How to get to Beilstein Beilstein Germany is located along the Moselle, and can easily be reached by car, or on a boat cruise. I highly recommend taking the boat tour, as the scenery here is amazing! By Boat: Cruise tickets can be purchased in the ticket booths located along the Moselpromenade, and takes you on a roundtrip tour to Beilstein. By Car: If you decide to get to Beilstein by car, there are parking lots located along the Moselle River, close to town, which you can’t miss. Beilstein is an easy drive from Cochem, located less than 15 minutes away. The views on our boat cruise along the Moselle River was just so stunning. The grapevine covered hills and charming little towns were just so beautiful, and made getting there by boat so worth it. Beilstein was known as the “Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle”, because it was only accessible by boat, and is one of the most charming, fairytale towns in Germany! Top things to do in Beilstein Germany Stroll through the picturesque streets of Beilstein One of the best things to do on a visit to Beilstein Germany is a stroll though the picturesque town. Beilstein is one of the smallest towns we’ve visited and can easily be explored on foot. On your sightseeing tour of Beilstein, you will notice all the beautiful and colorful half-timbered houses. These half-timbered houses are home to charming storefronts and cafes. Make sure to visit the many shops and purchase some one of a kind souvenir. Sit along the Marktplatz, and grab a bite while you admire the fairytale-like surrounding. There are lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from, including the Zehnthauskeller wine bar where you can sample some of the regional wines, and local specialties. Explore the ruins of Metternich Castle One of Beilstein Germany’s main attraction is the Metternich Castle ruins, which overlooks the town. Metternich castle was built around the 12th century, and was left in ruins over the years during some of the many battles fought in the country. You can still visit Beilstein castle for a nominal fee. It’s a short trek to the castle from the town, and once you make it up, you’re greeted with the most amazing views of the Mosel Valley down below. One of the best places for views of the Mosel Valley is atop the Beilstein Castle ruins. Once you make it up, stay awhile and just admire the beauty of the region. There is also a small cafe here serving some light meals, as well as some refreshing cold drinks. Our little one loved the little play area, which was perfect while we admired the views! There are so many beautiful photo-ops along the castle ruins, so make sure to bring a camera and take lots of pictures! We had an amazing time in Beilstein and wish we could’ve stayed the night. It would’ve been nice to experience having the town all to ourselves once all the day trippers have left for the day. Beilstein is a town made for relaxation, if you want to get away from it all, then this is the perfect escape. Plan your trip to Germany, take a cruise on the Moselle and find your perfect storybook town!
