UPDATED for 2023-2024 as of August 17, 2023! PLEASE READ HOW TO SAVE/PRINT: A fun printable way for each girl in your Girl Scout troop to keep track of the Junior badges she's earned! Print on cardstock for girls to keep and frame if wanted. A cool little Girl Scout keepsake. The standard print size is 8.5" wide x 11" long. AFTER PURCHASE: - Please download your digital file to a laptop or computer. If you download and try to print from your phone, you may not like the results. - YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD DIGITAL FILES YOU'VE PURCHASED THROUGH THE ETSY APP. You must use a web browser. - If you are having trouble saving the file, please contact Etsy support. - Files are 300dpi PDF format. This is acceptable for all printing services. NOTES FOR PRINTING: - Again, do you try to save/print from a phone - The BEST way to print is to send it to your local copying center or take it on an external thumb drive to the copy shop to have it printed (I highly suggest FedEx Office. I have printed this at both FEO and Office Depot, and OfficeDepot printed way too small.) - Printing on a basic home computer you may need to reduce the size a bit so that it all prints - This is meant to be a ONE-page print for your troop to be able to frame or put in a scrapbook *****PLEASE READ***** Because these are priced very reasonably for the amount of work I put into making them, I do not provide free updated files when badges are retired or new ones are added.
Hello Cyberland! I've decided to go ahead and make a chart for the current 2013 Pathfinder badges. Pathfinders is for girls age 12-14. I retrieved the badge images from the online GGC store. There are 66 Pathfinder badges in total. If you had missed my posts featuring the other GGC badges go to the individual posts for Guides, Brownies, Sparks. {It is fitting to post the Pathfinder badges since the Pathfinder branch colour is Green...and what colour is associated with St. Patrick's Day? Green of course!} Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day ! PS...if I missed anything please let me know!

Updated April 2023 One of the best and most difficult ways to earn a living is to be your own boss. It is not easy to own a business, but for those who do, it can be a very worthwhile endeavor. Doing something you love may not make you a multi-millionaire, but when you get to go to work every day for yourself, the rewards can be both intrinsically and extrinsically satisfying, Owning a business does not have to be a brick and mortar store. You can also earn money online by selling items on auction sites, on craft sites like Etsy, or by creating artwork and uploading your designs to sites like CafePress, Zazzle and Redbubble. My two daughters both sell items on Redbubble and the extra income it generates for them helps them pay for the things they want. Here is how your troop can earn the Junior Girl Scout Business Owner badge. *Note-Before you begin this badge, you may want to search for local businesses who already have this badge earning opportunity in place. Photo from Ivorymix Step 1 Explore Businesses You Might Like to Start Someday This is an easy step because all the girls have to do is talk! Ask them what kind of business they would like to run…but have them think about the reason why. If a girl likes to bake, does she want to own a bakery? If she enjoys gardening, does she want to own her own landscaping business? Write down each girl’s ideas on a big piece of easel paper or on a white board. Step 2 Learn the Basics of Running a Business The girls need to understand that you cannot just have an idea and open a business. What you need is a solid business plan. Have the girls select one of the ideas from the list they generated. Then hand out copies of this Business Plan for Kids from the Biz Kids website, It is easy to use and understand. The girls can work with you to help them fill it out. This would be a great tool to use if you are going to do a troop fundraiser. The girls will need to have a target audience in order to set a goal and work out what they want to do. (For additional worksheets and help on this top, you can visit this page of the Biz Kids website.) Step 3 Find Out What Kind of Support is Available for Small Business Owners This step is really a brief discussion. Going it alone in the world of business can be scary. One thing the girls need to know is that if they choose to start a business, there are resources available to them. Banks have loans, local community groups have small business seminars, and there are online resources from the local Chamber of Commerce that can be of some assistance. Step 4 Investigate What Makes Great Customer Service Photo from Pixabay Here is some fun for the girls-they get to role play good and bad customer experiences. The girls will act out different scenarios that you have written on slips of paper and have placed in a brown bag. Each slip has both roles-the customer and the business owner. Some scenarios can be: Customer is returning a new sweater that fell apart in the wash. Customer walks into a store and the salesperson is on her phone and/or is ignoring the customer. Customer needs help finding an item and the salesperson does not go out of her way to help. She just points. The customer returns and cannot find the item and the salesperson gets an attitude. Repeat the scenario above but this time the salesperson goes out of her way to find the item. You can have the girls pretend to be on the phone and have one set of girls have a pleasant and helpful interaction and one be rude and not helpful. Ask the girls which store would they more than likely return to? Why? Step 5 Understand the Importance of Consumer Research Ask the girls if they love pancakes. More than likely, most of them will. Once upon a time, you could only get breakfast at McDonald's before 11:00 AM, after that you were out of luck. But consumer research showed that people wanted to buy breakfast all day. So when the company switched to an all day breakfast menu, their profits skyrocketed. Photo from Ivorymix and altered by the author in Canva That is the benefit of consumer research. Go back to the original business idea. Have the girls formulate questions that they could ask other people to see if the business they are trying to create is a viable one. Is there interest in this? You may want to conclude this meeting by showing a portion of the show Shark Tank. You can show them snippets of when a person does not have “the numbers” and why they do not get financing from a Shark. You can also show a snippet of a person who does have all the financial information and who gets a deal from one of the Sharks.

Be sure to also checkout these other activities your girls will love: Creative Writing Fun: Scribe Activities Shop The Smarter Way: Savvy Shopper Activities Focus On What Matters: Staying Fit Activities How To Be A Amazing Detective Activities Other Fun Activities To Try Listen to “How I Built This” If you have a lot of girls who like learning through listening, the “How I Built This” podcast from NPR is awesome. You can listen to it on this website, or use a podcast streaming app and play it from your phone, etc. The host, Guy Raz, interviews a founder each episode and you hear about the untold stories behind major companies. The most compelling parts are when now multi-millionaire CEOs talk about the early days when everyone thought they were crazy, when they had barely any money in the bank, and when they were on the brink of failure but continue to persist. They also noticeably feature many female entrepreneurs! For example, check out the “Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams: Jeni Britton Bauer” and “LearnVest: Alexa von Tobel” episodes. Take a “Behind the Scenes” Tour Ask a local business owner if your group could visit their office and ask them questions. Most small, local, or family run businesses in particular would be delighted to have you. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could do a multi-stop tour of different environments. For example, you could visit a bakery in the morning, and then a tech company in the afternoon. The lifestyles of business owners vary dramatically, and it’s great to have the girls be exposed to a variety so they can see what they might be most drawn to. If you do get some Q&A time with a business owner, have the girls prepare questions in advance so you don’t have to experience any awkward silence. For example: What inspired you to start this company? What was the hardest part about getting your company started? What’s your typical day like? Play “Shark Tank” Shark Tank is a TV show where business owners pitch their ideas to investors, or “sharks”. Have half the girls play “shark” and half play business owners, then switch. Girls can be “solo founders” and come up with an idea themselves or they can partner with a friend. Pitches to the “sharks” should be short– aim for ~3 minutes each. Critically, after every pitch there is also time for “sharks” to ask questions of the business owners. While the “business owners” are preparing their pitches, have the “sharks” prepare their questions. For example: Why do you think this business will be profitable? What customer feedback have you gotten so far? / How do you know your product is good? What about your background or skills will help you succeed in this business? At the end, sharks decide if they want to invest in the business. A fun addition to the game is having marshmallows or another treat represent their investment. Run a Lemonade Stand The best way to learn to do something is to do it. The Lemonade Stand is a tried-and-true business model. What’s great about the Lemonade Stand is that it’s a microcosm of a real business. Instead of having the girls just focus on the selling aspect, you can build out each of the steps: Budget: Have the girls track how much ingredients cost and calculate the “cost per unit”. (Even if parents are donating the materials.) Marketing: Have the girls discuss what the most strategic place to locate the stand would be and what other marketing techniques they should use. E.g., Post on social media the time and place? Find out when a local sporting event will be happening where many people will be gathering? Allow customers who preorder to get a discount? Managing money: Have the girls closely track cash flow, marking down when things are sold and closing out the shift by calculating how much should be in the “register” by the end and comparing that to what is there. And, if you want a short cut, you can even order a Lemonade Stand In a Box to get started. (Note: we’ve only DIY’d our stands and haven’t actually used this product before). If you don’t want to do any more planning, our Activity Booklet has step-by-step instructions with activities that don’t require any materials. What do we do after your girls complete the activities? Well of course give them the badge to display proudly on their vest, they earned it! Additionally If you are like many leaders we want to award our girls when they complete something even beyond just the patch. One great way to show achievement is with a certificate. Don’t worry you don’t have to make them, I found a resource that has done all the work for you and all you have to do is print them and customize the certificates with each girl’s name, badge or award earned, date, and troop leader. Editable certificates perfect for awarding girls after earning a badge. More Resources For You Beyond This Site I get asked a lot what other resources are out there on the internet for Leaders. I have done some digging over the years and have used many of the resources myself. I compiled a list of some great companies that sell patches, programs and also other bloggers offering amazing resources that may fit your needs even better than my site did. Checkout what I found.

GGC WORLD GUIDING BADGE The Guides earned the "World Guiding" Badge last week. {This week we are off because of March Break}. This badge took a while to earn. We did parts in February and March. We also completed the "You In Guiding" Program Area badges. We combined both "You In Guiding" with the "World Guiding" badge and created a World Guiding Lapbook. {A Lapbook is a file folder filled with mini booklets and activities}. If you have any questions about Lapbooking please leave a comment. Lapbook cover - you can add a title and images for decoration Lapbook Inside View - lots of mini books, puzzles, pockets, pictures Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in Wartime Layered Mini Book WAGGGS/World Centres/CWFF Mini Book A Pocket to hold various Mini Books A Mini Envelope to hold things History Fortune Teller/Cootie Catcher Game Inside View Mini Song Book Inside View- Guides' Opening and Closing Songs {French and English} Passport from Thinking Day Celebration with Mini Postcards This Colouring page of Lady Baden-Powell flips up to reveal her information...image and info found in the Brownie Program book 1995. Underneath the image of LBP are more collage photos {found through google search} This is a Puzzle...the circle is folded into 4ths then one fourth is glued to the Lapbook so that it can be opened. The Puzzle pieces are in a mini baggie attached with a paperclip. Remove the paperclip then open the circle then add the pieces. {not sure where I found this puzzle} This may be left as a puzzle for future use or the pieces may be glued on World Flag Card {purchased from the GGC store}held in place by photo corners so that the card can be removed The back of the card explains the parts of the World Flag Promise and Law Wordsearch folded and glued to Lapbook so that it can be opened One square of the page was glued to the Lapbook to keep it in place This is a colouring sheet of Uniforms fan folded into a Mini Book {found in the Guide Programme book 1985} The colouring sheet of Uniforms is quite long... a fan folded Mini Book works well One end of the fan fold was glued to the Lapbook to keep it in place A GGC Bookmark was clipped to the back flap A second folder may be attached to the back flap if doing the Canadian Guiding Badge. In this case I would have info about Casa Loma, Lady Pellatt, the GGC Cookie Story, and other GGC history. I had precut and pre folded most of these items. It would take a really long time if the girls did all the cutting and folding. I would rather do the prep work and allow more time for the girls to learn about what they are gluing into the Lapbook. This took the Guides about an hour to complete..spread over a couple of meetings. The Girl Guides in Wartime layered book was an entire meeting in November. The passport booklet was from our Thinking Day celebration. The colouring of the uniforms and the wordsearch are meant to be done at home. The Guides expressed that they thought this was a really cool activity! That is enough motivation to keep doing Lapbooking at Guides! {I would suggest only doing 2 per year since it is time consuming}. I will soon post other Lapbooks that we did in previous years at Brownies . It is one of those years where no one thought we would have to discontinue in person meetings. Over the last couple weeks I have witnessed some amazing things that shows not only the creativity of our huge community of leaders, but even our girls. When across the country and even around the world we started seeing shut downs and closures. Everyone asked to social distance to save lives. What do our leaders and girl leaders of tomorrow do, they said, “How can I help? What can we do to continue learning and leading? How do we socialize remotely?” The challenge was given and around the world the ideas started pouring in. This post I want to share some of those ideas and suggestions to keep your troop active and engaged as a troop and in your communities. Troop Care Packages One great idea is to put together care packages to send home for your girls to do badges at home. If you decide to do virtual meetings (Check out advice for Zoom meetings below) you can give directions to parents to do parts of the activities before the virtual meeting. If you are just discontinuing meetings for now this is great for parents to do with girls at home. For example, Amanda Lee, a leader with Daisy and Brownie girls put together take home activities badge packs for her troop. These badge packs included 3 badge activities with projects, worksheets & crafts to earn badges at home along with a badge journal. She also included some extra things she purchased using cookie profit and added a box of cookies left over from sales as an extra treat! She used a few of the activity booklets from this website in her packet. For the Daisies she used the Petal Fairy Garden Adventure cut and paste book, Board game design challenge, and with her Brownies she used the Home Scientist. You can also checkout the Leader Connecting Leader shop for great resources for any age scout you may have. Virtual Meetings Using Zoom There are a number of ways you can have a virtual meeting. I have seen troops use Skype, Facebook, Facetime, Microsoft teams and the one I am going to discuss Zoom. It seems like Zoom has been the most popular for a number of organizations not just scouts. My sons Karate group uses it and has been a great way for him to keep being active with classes while being in our living room. Few Zoom Tips (you can use some of these with any technology you choose Just because we are at home we should still feel like we are going to meeting. Have your girls wear their uniform or whatever you require for meetings, vest, sash etc. Beyond just having video so everyone can see each other and you can see them, you can also share your screen. So you could show a Youtube Video, powerpoint or other presentation you have on your computer. There is a white board you can share which allows everyone to add comments and write things about a certain topic you are discussing. Reminds me of a poster board or white board you would have at a in person meeting. You will have ability to mute girls and not allow them to unmute themselves. So. you could then unmute and mute (one at a time or as a group) as you need. Zoom is free, you just have to keep your meeting under 40 minutes. I found that is plenty enough time for a meeting. If you needed more time you could start a new session. Cyber Security Idea If you are working on cyber security for any level scout many groups have taken a screenshot of their Zoom meeting and posted it on one of the private Scouting groups on Facebook. Here is a long list of ones you can join. When you post the image mention you are working on the badge and you want to show your girls how quickly something can travel on the web by having as many people as possible post a comment with their location. This way you are still keeping it pretty private into the scouting community while showing the girls how quickly something can travel. If you have 2nd or 3rd grade girls check out the Cyber Basics Printable Activity Booklet here on this site. Learn About The Stars Have your girls write a star story before your virtual meeting. Making up a story about a real or made up constellation. Set your meeting for right before sun goes down and moon and stars are coming out. So they could all watch together. Have girls take turns sharing their star stories. Share some amazing star constellations with your girls. Come up with some songs to sing together. Nasa is offering a pile of at home craft ideas you could also incorporate into this activity. Did you know you can have someone from the Kennedy Space Center read a book to girls? Here is a story being read “There is no place like space” Alphabet Challenge During Virtual Meeting During your virtual meeting have everyone write A – Z straight down on paper. Then give each girl a set time to write something down for each letter of the alphabet based on a topic such as countries, animals, kitchen items etc. Then starting with first letter everyone shares their answer. Girls discussed which answers are good and counted. Let the girls judge. 2 points for each unique answer 1 point if someone else had the same answer 0 points if no answer or invalid answer At end of meeting as an activity girls can do with their parents is use the A – Z scavenger hunt Activity booklet. Which allows them to get outside and find things that start with each letter, or if to cold do it in the house! Using Zoom and Girls Creativity to Plan Are you struggling to come up with fun ideas to do virtually? Leave it to your girls. If you are using zoom then use the whiteboard function on zoom. You can stop sharing and turn on and then let the girls write down ideas for what they want to do at online troop meetings. Then once the brainstorm is complete vote on what the girls want to do at their next meeting. Be sure to save the white board to refer back to later. Group Service Project Ideas Even if you are not together, why not learn a new skill. Even a better time to make something and donate to people who need it. Examples such as learn how to knit, make scarves for homeless. Learn how to sew and make masks for first responders. Making fleece and no sew beds for animal shelters, which can be connected to pet activities for 2nd and 3rd grade girls. Meet a Author, Read, and Earn a Fun patch I have talked about Rachel Alpine who is the author of 2 great books: YOU THROW LIKE A GIRL, the book is full of girl power and a message about being yourself. It was a Junior Library Guild selected book and is perfect for kids in grades 2-6 and is 100% kid friendly (so you can read it together with your family!) Read more FRIDAY NIGHT STAGE LIGHTS is about a girl who loves ballet but moves to a town that loves football and what happens when the two worlds collide. It’s full of girl power and messages about trying new things and believing in yourself. It’s great for girls in grades 3-8. Read more She is still offering patch programs for both of her two books, which is a great way to keep your troop connected while not in school. And as a bonus, she is doing a live web stream for each book where the girls can tune in and submit questions that she will answer in real time. Be sure to contact her to learn more about free private Zoom chats with your troop and/or discounted bulk rates for 25 or more books. [email protected] Meet another author, Micheal Anderson, who is also offering meet and greet zoom sessions. If leaders are interested, they can contact her at [email protected] and write “Im Interested” in the subject line of the email along with their troop number. Zoey Lyndon’s Big Move to the Lou is an inspiring book about a 4th grade science loving girl who desperately wants to fit in at her new school. She struggles initially, but her love of science is what ultimately ends up breaking the ice for her and she learns to navigate the fourth grade like a pro. This is a fun, fast paced story that encourages girls to pursue STEM. Fun patches With Virtual Meetings In Mind They are popping up everywhere. Funny patches, patches around virtual meetings, patches around Covid-19 you name it. Here are my top 3 favorites that have been circling around. TOGETHER WE STAND ACTIVE, INFORMED, CONNECTED AND PREPARED TO FIGHT COVID19 Fun patch – pick between a patch that you can color in the bracelets using markers or ones that are already colored. It is pretty cool! Your first Zoom meeting? Of course you want to remember that with a fun patch. ZOOM MEETING FUN PATCH Virtual meeting using any platform. This is really a cute fun patch. ViRTUAL MEETING FUN PATCH Let Your Council Help I have seen it all over Facebook, many councils are offering virtual programs to earn badges. They are using virtual systems like Facebook Live, Zoom, Skype programs. If you have not seen any of these on Facebook, checkout your council’s website. Many councils have opened it up to girls all over the USA so be sure to go to Facebook and search for girl scouts! Digital Tools For Your Troop The likelihood is you won’t always be running virtual meetings, and at some point you’ll be returning to a meeting setting. Technology can support us in many different ways, whether we are communicating virtually, or in person. For example, wireless screen mirroring in classrooms is a fantastic tool to use for presentations, or sharing information. When you use tech tools like this at your meetings, you’ll benefit from improved teamwork, interaction and active learning. It could be a great way to introduce ways to allow for girls unable to attend a meeting due to illness or other transportation issues to join a meeting virtually while others are in person. Enjoy every minute being a leader and continue to inspire your girls!
