I found a few different examples of Hansel and Gretel illustrations, and I just wanted to share them because they are so sweet. First, we have this illustration from "Favorite Bedtime Stories" illustrated by Miss Elliott, from 1943: Eloise Wilkin's illustrations in this Little Golden Book: And another Little Golden Book, this one also from 1943, and illustrated by Erika Weihs: Look at the cute little house, and the smiling sun on the title page! I love it. (Finding these has given me an idea: How about a Tim Burton version of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's original story - you know, a live-action fantasy type of thing like Alice In Wonderland? Although it doubtless would not be a saccharine-sweetened version of the story like those in these vintage books, it sounds like a good idea to me!)

This Little Golden Book, Little Cottontail, is copyright 1960, when it sold for 29¢. The book tells the story of a young cottontail rabbit who is learning what it takes to grow up and be a big cottontail. He learns about leaving the nest, washing himself, how to find the foods big rabbits eat, and especially how to watch out for foxes. The author is Carl Memling. The gorgeous vintage illustrations are by Lilian Obligado. A special note on the book's copyright page notes: "Lilian Obligado was so enchanted with Carl Memling's LITTLE COTTONTAIL that she bought herself a rabbit. The two became great friends, and Miss Obligado's obvious enjoyment of her pet is clearly seen in these charming pictures. We hope that Little Cottontail will make many more new friends through this Little Golden Book." This book is pre-owned but is in very good shape. None of the pages are missing or even loose, though there is some tanning on the pages with white backgrounds. The only real flaw is that the classic Little Golden Book gold binding is missing and the staples are visible. The book has had some wear from handling, but overall it is in great condition for its age. The colors throughout are clear and bright, and the cover is still glossy. This is the standard Little Golden Book size of 6 5/8 inches across and 8 inches tall. It has 12 pages not counting the front and back covers. The back cover features advertising for seven De Luxe Little Golden Books: The Golden Treasury of Natural History; Walt Disney's People and Places; The World's Great Religions; Illustrated Golden Dictionary; The Story of Geology; The World of Science; and The Golden Treasury of Poetry. The book was found by me in the actual attic of a non-smoking New Hampshire home. It is a found object and therefore being offered in "as-is" condition.
