I am playing with cotton summer yarns lately when I have a little spare time. Like when I watch TV or wait for my daughter's after school activities get over. I got eight different colored yarns and I am crocheting these granny squares with it. The flower petals are three dimensional. I used white for all petals, green for all leaves, and different pastel colors for backgrounds. That made the project very colorful and it looks like a spring flower garden when I spread them out on the table. I got these seven colors and white. The yarns I am using are these. Sugar'n Cream from Lily. This project is still in progress. I need to make some more squares to finish this. I will tell you what it is going to be when it's done. WITH the crocheted pattern for the granny squares! Have a great week!

Hello, hello! I have a wonderful cathedral window pattern read out for you today. It's for a scarf but it could also be turned into a blanket. I made several slight changes that do not alter the looks of the square. So, with no further ado and with yarn of your choice and adequate hook: Foundation: Chain 6, join to make ring Sc 8 in ring Round 1: Ch 3, make 3 dc in the next st, ch3 and sc in next st. Repeat this until you make full circle. You will get 4 petals. Round 2: Make 2 sl st on the beginning chain (to get closer to the top of the petal) and then make a sc. "Ch 3, dc3tog, ch3, sc on the ch of the other side, ch2 and sc 1 in the chain of the other petal". Repeat from " to " for all the petals. Round 3: Insert new color in the ch of the 1st rnd and make a dc, then "ch 4 and sc at the top of the petal. ch 4 and dc in the ch of the 1st row again. Next, ch2, make a dc in the ch of the 1st row" and repeat the pattern from " to ". When you come to the end, after you ch the last 2, sl st it in the 1st dc of the rnd. Round 4: "sc 2 in ch, sc 2 more on the other ch then, in the 2 ch of the previous rnd, dc4, ch3, dc4" Repeat the pattern from " to ". It's fairly easy and the ultimate result is gorgeous. Enjoy making this! Other posts of the how to read crochet charts series here, here, and here.

Hello lovely people, thank you for being so generous with your comments on my last post. I know the Jan Eaton 'Willow' Block is a firm favourite for a lot of the seasoned crocheters amongst you, so it's lovely to hear that my simple adaptation of this pattern into a solid block version has proved popular. I'm sure many of you would find it super easy to interpret what I've done just by looking at the pictures I posted, but for those who've asked I've put together a very basic tutorial. The main body of the pattern can be found on page 106 of the block directory, in the book 200 crochet blocks for blankets, throws and afghans. Jan's pattern has the centre motif openly framed by four rounds of crochet, but I've chosen to encase the centre motif in just 2 rounds, with no visible gaps. You can choose any number of colour combinations, but I've decided to use one colour for the whole centre motif and another for the border. I think it works really well. So here goes; I'm working on a 3.5mm hook with 100% cotton yarn. Once you've followed the first 5 rounds of Jan's pattern from the book you can choose to either fasten off and join a new colour (like I have), or carry on with the same colour to completion. It really is a very simple concept, so I hope you find these instructions easy to follow. As with my Happy Flower Tutorial, I must point out I'm by no means an authority on writing up crochet patterns, so forgive any mistakes you may find, but by all means let me know about them should you spot any. Just click on the pics for a more detailed view UK Terms There you have it, see I told you it was easy!!! Happy Hooking x x x
