Okay, so this might just be the cutest DIY project we have come across in a while (and thats saying something!). Who can resist some tiny, fluffly, brightly coloured fruit pom poms. We stumbled across this fabulous tutorial from Mr. Printables, one of our absolute favourite blogs and we just knew we'd be running to Lincraft for some neon wool! This one is particularly good for little ones too! Check out some of the cute-as how to's below. Check out the whole fruit salad tutorial over on Mr. Printables. All images from Mr. Printables.
Crochet Fruit Pattern In my opinion no fruit bowl arrangement or cornucopia looks quite complete without grapes! And these would also make fantastic decorations strung up as if on a vine, in a kitchen or conservatory. Like all my fruit and vegetables, these grapes are designed to be as realistic as possible. The design includes different sizes of grape, and a slight naturalistic irregularity in how they are placed, to produce an organic result. The pattern only uses two basic stitches, and is fully illustrated with colour pictures, so can be completed by any crocheter with a little determination and the ability to crochet firmly and regularly. For a group of grapes approximately 11cm or 4-4½" long you will need: • double-knitting (DK, light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn in approximately the following quantities: -- Main colour (purple or green) .......49m (53 yds) -- Stalk colour (brown) ......2.5m (2.5 yds) • a 3.5mm (E-4) crochet hook • a stuffing material (details are provided in the pattern) • a blunt yarn needle • a ruler or tape measure • sharp scissors And of course you can easily work larger or smaller grapes by using heavier or lighter yarn and varying your hook accordingly! This pattern is available in both UK and US crochet terminology. Both files will be available for you on purchase and you can choose whichever you prefer to use. Important features of my crochet patterns: My crochet patterns include BOTH a detailed 'tutorial-style' set of instructions with colour photos, AND a succinct unillustrated pattern using standard crochet conventions. I have developed this style because I find I like to see a lot of detail the first time I work a pattern, but if I then work the same piece again, I don't need the pictures, etc, and indeed they can get in the way when I just want a quick reminder of what I'm doing. The PDF is also structured so that the succinct version, with an area for your own notes, is on a single page, making it easy to just take one sheet of paper with you if you have printed it out for quick reference on the move. This pattern comes with my full support: if you have any difficulties, please contact me! Rest assured I am a real person and I'd love to hear from you and see pictures of your finished creations! :-) I also sell finished fruit and vegetables! Grapes have been around a long, long time – in fact, the first grape varieties date as far back as 6000 B.C. In California, the fresh grape boom hit in 1839 when a former trapper from Kentucky, William Wolfskill, planted the state’s first table grape vineyard in the Mexican colonial pueblo now known as Los Angeles. An agricultural entrepreneur, Wolfskill was the first farmer to ship fresh grapes to Northern California. R.B. Blowers expanded the idea and sent the first 22-pound box of California grapes to Chicago via the new transcontinental railroad in 1869.
