With the Chinese Ground Orchid, or Bletilla striata ‘Pink,’– you can enjoy the fascinating orchid blossoms and pleated green foliage in your partially shaded or woodland garden. In late spring, generous flowering unfolds as racemes carrying 8-12 vivid violet-pink blossoms emerge. Upright foliage is marked with pronounced vertical ridges, adding texture throughout the growing season. A true treasure for the plantsperson – grow Bletilla striata ‘Pink’ as a showpiece in your garden or in containers and see how easy it can be! (Bletilla)

The flowers are long lasting, produce successive flowers over time and have a distinct fragrance of grape juice (which I can definitely attest to). (April 26, 2008)
Enjoy the unusual, delicate blooms of orchids in your shade garden or woodland with the hardy White Chinese Ground Orchid. This unique flower features exquisite racemes of nodding white bells that open in late spring. Upright foliage is marked with pronounced vertical ridges, adding texture throughout the growing season. Bletilla striata is a hardy and very easy-to-grow terrestrial orchid with upright, heavily textured, iris-like, 18" long x 3" wide green leaves and forms a slowly spreading clump. In early spring, stalks to 30" tall of very small lavender, cattleya orchid-like flowers with a dark purple lip are held atop the foliage. The rhizomes spread slowly and eventually form a nice mass. Bletilla striata grows best in moist-to-damp soils in 1-6 hours of sun. While they may grow in shade, flowering will be sparse if at all.
