An inspired and inventive take on the biblical epic of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Blaine was a unique talent, and counter culture avant-garde artist who worked outside of the confines of the mainstream. A life-long bohemian, his work became increasingly sexual and marginalized from the norm of illustration art, and as time went on he counted the magician Dunninger among his closest friends, and most important patrons. His eerie and erotic style bore witness to his fascination with dark arts.

First things first, SOLSTICE BLESSINGS to you! Despite calls for drizzle it was a glorious weekend and I got burnt to a crisp working in the garden. Our garden is coming along nicely (thanks to all of the hard work by Mr. Pixie) and I'm grateful for all of the leafy green goods that are sprouting and ending up on our dinner table. Our solstice celebrations were quiet. I made a nice meal for the hubs (it also being father's day and all) and then took some treats outside for our fairy friends. Honey, jam, bread, and sweet wine. Our contribution to the wee folk's solstice celebrations. Our "fairy sanctuary" is coming along slowly but surely. I managed to finish up a handful of sprite cottages, which are now sitting in an overgrown tangle of leaves. They'll be a perfect spot for our little fairy visitors to rest. Our resident Hobbit has returned. The long grass was cleared, a small stone wall built and his tiny garden tended. Word of our safe heaven must be spreading. On Thursday evening I heard a ruckus outside and when I went to investigate I found this wee caravan parked beneath the bird bath. Some travelling fairies have come to stay for the summer. I'll try to get better photos of the caravan camp soon. It was being guarded by a band of determined mosquitoes when I took this photo. I was very nearly eaten alive before I was chased away ;)

This beautiful black and white engraving is from the 1894 Popular Edition of Milton’s “Paradise Lost” and illustrated with the designs of Gustave Doré. It is signed in the plate and includes the title of the image at the foot of the plate. This print is over 120 years old and in very good condition for its age - without tears, spots or creases. It measures approx. 6” x 9” (15.5cm x 22.5cm) with enough margin for framing. Note – the watermark does not appear on the original print you will receive. Milton published "Paradise Lost" in 1667 in 10 books; a follow-up edition was released in 1674 in 12 books. The poem's subject is the Biblical story of the decline of Satan, as well as the banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden – how they came to be created and how they came to lose their place in the Garden of Eden, also called Paradise. It's the same story you find in the first pages of Genesis, expanded by Milton into a very long, detailed, narrative poem. Gustave Doré (born Paris 1832) was a world famous 19th century illustrator. He was also a prolific engraver, artist, and sculptor, working primarily as a wood and steel engraver. He produced over 100,000 sketches in his lifetime and lived to be 50 years old. Even though he was an untrained, self-taught artist, who never used a live model, and who could not sketch from nature, his work is considered some of the most important in the entire engraving art world. As an illustrator, Doré created engravings for the books of Balzac, Rabelais, Milton, Dante, Edgar Allen Poe, and Lord Byron. He was commissioned to illustrate a version of the English Bible, which was extremely popular, allowing for the foundation of his own gallery, the Doré Gallery.
