1981年に相次いで登場した3台のモデル、シルクロード(250cc)、イーハトーブ(125cc)、CT110ハンターカブは、大きく「トレッキングバイク」とカテゴライズされていた。後年、オフロードバイクに包括されていくカテゴリーではあるが、当時は、自然の中を散歩するように走ることができるバイクという意味で用いられていた。本来のterkの持つ意味とは違うが、日本では野山歩きを「トレッキング」と称したところから、トレッキングバイクのイメージは容易に想像できた。ハンターカブの名前のとおり、スーパーカブの派生モデルではあるが、不整地を走行するためにアップマウントされたマフラーやテレスコピック式のフロントサス、省略されたレッグシールドなどを備え、外観イメージはカブ系と思わせないものがあった。なお、1981年に国内発売されたCT110ハンターカブが、イコール「ハンターカブ」というイメージだが、1968年発売のCT50(国内モデル)はじめ、海外向けのCT200など、ハンターカブの名前を持つモデルは複数存在した。また、不整地走行用のカブというイメージモチーフは、2013年登場のクロスカブへとつながっていった。※2019年の東京モーターショーに、「CT125」というコンセプトモデルが参考出品された。どう控えめに見ても、CT110ハンターカブの再来であり、翌2020年6月には、CT125ハンターカブという名称で発売された。
