...as you may know we are busy working on next years new 'Label' - THE VINTAGE DRAWER. The first collection to be introduced is 'made with love'. When we started researching new directions and ideas for next year I found my old sewing case that I made when I was seven years old. So one afternoon I sat amongst my collection of vintage linens and haberdashery and I pottered 'til midnight. I used to spend hours when I was a younger making things, sorting things, sewing things together. Button boxes, old tins full of old lace and ribbon, going to the market with my Nan to buy scrap bags of fabric and felt and then a creative explosion would begin when I got home - some of my creations were useful (my dolls were very well dressed) and some not so useful (a quilted vase cover to keep flowers warm??????what's that all about??!!)... But that little nostalgic day with all of my treasured hoardings was the day that 'the vintage drawer' was born and the 'made with love' first sample created... We wanted to run, alongside our printed range, a new 'label' that was vintage through and through, to look and feel as if it had been hand made and re-discovered from the 1940's and early 50's. A time when making something for someone was 'made with love'. Each product is a bespoke piece, all delicately made with vintage and retro linens and haberdashery, hand sewn and machine stitched together. The invitations are little booklets and come in their own little decorated box. They are approx 9cm x 9cm in size. We are currently working on our reception stationery for this collection and you can see its creation being documented here and over at studio snippets. This month we will be working on favour ideas such as lavender bags (see our pretty favour sewing cases above), place names, table numbers, menus, thank you booklets, lovely embroidery signs such as 'welcome', 'naughty but nice', just married'...........and anything else that takes our fancy!!! You can order an invitation sample, the charge for this is £12.00 (inc P&P), and it will be sent to you via recorded delivery. This is then redeemable against an order of £300 or more. All you have to do is email [email protected] to request a 'made with love' invitation sample, payment details are given on request. So samples are available from today and orders can be made from January 1st 2011. Minimum order of 10 for most products (excludes table numbers and menus). I saw this Barbie chandelier in a design book at Lowe's. I was horrified and strangely intrigued. There are several versions of this idea floating around the web. I've been wanting to replace my daughter's clunky ceiling fan with something fun and current. After hunting for several weeks I finally found a large brass fixture for $20 at a thrift store that I can alter into something cute. My plans don't include screwing hooks into Barbie's head.
