My husband has recently gotten interested in woodworking. Over the holidays, he watched a lot of You Tube videos on the subject. If he were to take up carving, he might want to try something like this angel sculpture I saw at a nursery.

This was handcarved from a block of American limewood using a knife and a gouge. It was then sanded to 7k grit and oiled with two different types of oil. The surface is smooth to the touch and a clear coat of natural, homemade shellac resin was applied for an additional layer of protection to ensure longevity. I wanted to practice faces on this little guy and I'm reasonably pleased with the results. It served as a good practice exercise to develop skills I'll build on in the future with more ambitious projects. As for this fella, I think he'd make a great desk companion or unusual household ornament! Please note he's made from softwood as opposed to hardwood. This makes him more vulnerable to damage from hard materials and misuse than hardwood.

I made around 25 of these prints. I wanted to try a print using inverted versions, and so I have a split down the middle one side dark background and the other light. For me these prints represent the contradicting feelings I have with being medicated. Medications purpose is to help, but also can be an unwanted burden.
