It's already time for another block in our BLOOM Sew Along! I'm sew excited that we are working on the last row of our quilt. CLICK HERE to download the free pattern CLICK HERE to get your BLOOM Sew Simple Shapes We will be making block eighteen today:) These are my prints I've chosen for my appliqués. We will be using A-9 and A-19 Sew Simple Shape From BOTH fabric and interfacing: Cut 3 - 3" for the hearts (I used 3 different prints) Cut 2 - 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" for first set of leaves Cut 2 - 1 1/2" x 2 1/2"for second set of leaves Prepare 3 stems 6 1/2", 4 1/2" and 4". Cut your background 9" square. 1. Trace your shapes onto the interfacing. 2. Trim and cut and X in the interfacing for turning. 3. Clip each cleavage on the hearts. 4. Turn and press your appliqué shapes. Press your fabric in half like this. Place your longest stem on the center fold. Measure 2" to the left of the stem and draw a thin line for the second to the longest stem placement. Repeat for the other side with the shortest stem. All 3 stems should look like this:) Measure 1 1/2" down from the center top edge of your background and place the heart like this. Measure 3 1/2" from the topped to place the heart on the left side.... And 4" down to place the heart on the right side. Now arrange your leaves and like this and glue or pin baste into place. When appliqué is completed... trim up your block to 8 1/2" square. Cut your border strips and squares ... And sew up your block! I love the sweet simplicity of this block, don't you? Ready...set...sew! #BloomBlockEighteen Eighteen down and 2 more to go!! xx Lori

I finished four more Lori Smith "Song of Spring" hand applique blocks while my quilt cave was torn up. This was during my recent purge, re-arrange, and clean-up of my sewing troll hole. Even with my level of OCD, the most organized space needs a refreshing overhaul every now and then. These blocks finish at only 6 inches. I now have 7 of 12 finished. They are for a Christmas gift, so I really need to step up the game a bit, don't I...after all, this is only for ONE gift. How is everyone else doing with the promise of "starting earlier NEXT year!" for the holidays? These are so fun to work on...small enough to be in a little "to go"container upstairs, just waiting for me to get too freaked out by the basement "in-process" chaos and run screaming for its calming contents. I don't call this blog Fabric THERAPY for nothin'! This one is my favorite...I have always loved orange and blue together...maybe because Auburn is my university Alma Mater, and those are the school colors. I decorated cakes to help get through college...I wish I had a dime for every time I drew an "Aubie" the tiger on a sheet cake, using orange and blue frosting on a satin white, buttercream surface. Lovely fabric is MUCH nicer...and CLEANER...to work with (and less calories...). In stitches, Teresa :o)

We are so excited to be carrying Lori Holt's crocheting supplies and we even recently went up to Lori's Cozy Cottage in Salt Lake City to film a couple of beginner crochet tutorials with her! She showed us how to make granny squares (from the Granny Squares Home Crochet Book), block each square, and then turn the entire thing into a functional pincushion!

YaY! It's week six of our BLOOM Sew Along:) I am sew excited about how our quilt is coming along! If you are just getting started... CLICK HERE to download my free pattern for the BLOOM quilt:) If you still need my BLOOM Sew Simple Shapes I'm happy to say that the backorder has come in...YaY! CLICK HERE to purchase a set to make the quilt. Today is block 6... a sweet pink daisy:) Choose your prints... (I'm using Calico Days fabric) We will be using A-2 A-16 A-17 BLOOM Sew Simple Shapes Cut the following from BOTH your fabric and Pellon: 7 - 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" for the petals 1 - 3" square for the center 2 - 2" x 3" for the leaves From fabric only: Cut 1 - 5/8" x 7" strip for the stem Cut 1 - 9" square for the background Trace onto the Pellon around each shape as usual... except for A-17... leave the bottom untraced. And when you sew these petal shapes... Sew all the way down to the edges like this and backstitch when starting and stopping to secure. The circle and leaves are sewn as usual. Trim off extra on all pieces... leaving an approximate 1/4" seam allowance. Cut an "X" in the Pellon only on the circle and the leaves... we are going to do something different with the petals. Make a small cut at the bottom center of the Pellon only to make them easier to turn. Turn them right side out and use the tip of your turning tool to push out the top curve. Remember to push ONLY on the fabric and not the Pellon so that you don't poke through. Because the raw edges are being tucked under the circle they will never show! Prepare your stem strip for basting:) Press your background square in half... and glue baste or pin the stem on the center fold... and even with the bottom edge as usual. Line up the first petal on the center crease and on top of the stem measuring 1" down from the top edge of background square like this. Pin or glue baste into place. Baste the two side petals next... measuring 1 3/4" from the edge... using the lines on the background fabric to make sure that they are straight. Your block should look like this so far:) This is how I layed out the remaining four petals. I didn't measure in from the edges but placed them like this until I was happy. There is no right or wrong... just try to make them symmetrical on both sides. Pin or glue baste into place. When I placed my circle on... I measured 1 1/2" in from the petals. Your measurement may be different according to how you placed your petals but just make sure to measure the same on both sides so that your circle is centered. When I placed my leaves I measured 1 1/2" up from the bottom edge. After your shapes are all basted... appliqué using your chosen method. I am doing hand appliqué for this quilt. Cut your border strips and squares and sew your block together. Don't forget to trim your block to 8 1/2" square after applique. (this is before I trimmed mine) YaY! Block six is complete:) When yours is finished post it on Instagram and use the hashtag #BloomBlockSix It's so fun to sew everyones progress on our sew along! sometimes no matter how long you sit and stare at the blank page, the ideas just won't come, and it's easy to get into a creative slump. so when that happens, here's a remedy for whatever ails you: as long as you do what you truly love to do.... try not to get distracted by what everyone else is doing.... forget about all those self-imposed pressures.... and create artwork that's true to your heart..... {and especially just please yourself....} you'll be able to write your own personal prescription for creativity.... and inspiration will help you, because it's always the best medicine! (well, next to chocolate, that is...... :)) {this was created in my walls notebook using pitt pens, derwent inktense pencils, pan pastel, and a 6B graphite pencil}
