Currently living and working in the idyllic town of Urtijëi, Italy, sculptor Willy Verginer shares a closeness with his environment in both technique and concept. His surreal wooden sculptures are carved from a single linden tree trunk with incredible precision and detail. Although their features are classical, Verginer paints bold stripes of color across his figures and poses them in awkward positions, making them completely contemporary. Previously covered here, he's often paired his figures of women, men, and young children with other animals and objects that don't fit together. His most recent pieces, which are on currently view at Galerie Van Campen & Rochtus in Belgium, pairs them with oil barrels.
Capturing the serene essence of the Isle of Raasay, this enchanting print takes one on a visual journey through the tranquil beauty of the Inner Hebrides. Embraced by the distinctive style of Art Nouveau, the piece presents an idyllic landscape rich in natural splendour and flowing lines that echo the organic forms of the earth. In the foreground, rustic ruins hint at a narrative woven into the island's historical tapestry, their crumbling stone textures a testament to the passage of time. Warm amber and russet tones contrast against the cool blues of the tranquil sea, beckoning the viewer's gaze toward the undulating hills that roll gently into the distance. The middle ground reveals a tapestry of emerald and olive green, a lush palette that speaks of the fertile lands characteristic of Raasay, delicately detailed with the fluidity of the Nouveau style. Calm waters mirror the soft sky, fusing sea and air in a harmonious expanse that invites contemplation. Beyond, majestic mountains stand under a delicate canopy of wispy clouds, their grandeur outlined in the subtle ink lines that are iconic of the period. The graceful play of light and shadow gives depth and dimension to the peaks, while the cerulean sky opens up an infinite vault overhead. This print, poised between reality and romanticism, offers a timeless tribute to the Scottish isles, their untouched beauty immortalised in the elegant curves and muted hues of this mesmerising artwork. An ideal addition for collectors and admirers of both natural landscapes and the exquisite Art Nouveau movement.

Miriam Escofet creates rich oil paintings of idyllic scenes that nostalgically allude to classical antiquity. Perhaps the only notes of pessimism in these sumptuous depictions of ornate architecture, statues and jewels is that Escofet's heavenly world seem to be nearly devoid of human inhabitants. This is a place that seems to belong to the gods — too perfect for mortals. Escofet originally studied 3D design and set out to be a ceramicist, which explains her attention to texture and volume. Each crease of fabric and crevice within a tree's bark is rendered with precision. Light and shadow are greatly contrasted to a level beyond what we normally experience with the human eye, making Escofet's fictional lands seem vivid yet illusory.

Immerse yourself in the serene splendour of Scotland's natural beauty with this captivating visual ode to the Scottish landscape. This exquisite print celebrates the charming presence of the Lesser celandine, a springtime herald, set against the idyllic backdrop of Loch Tay. In this piece, the artistic technique pays homage to the 'Color Field' style, inviting contemplation and an emotional connection through vast expanses of color. The foreground is awash with a carpet of radiant yellow flowers, their delicate petals and rich golden tones popping against the contrasting shades. Tender green stems and leaves interplay subtly, suggesting the delicate dance of flora in the gentle winds. Looming behind this floral display, the cool, deep-blue tranquillity of Loch Tay stretches across the canvas, harmonising with the sky above. Here, the water reflects the staggered visage of the distant peaks and clouds, expertly portrayed through the mingling of light and dark hues, evoking the changing moods of the Scottish sky. This print encapsulates a unique stillness and depth, a masterful representation of the Color Field movement, which focuses on the power of pure colour. It stands as both a timeless tribute to the natural beauty of Scotland's flowers and flora as well as an homage to the aesthetic simplicity and emotional profundity achievable through this minimalist approach to art. Transform any space with this evocative piece, which transports viewers to the serene shores of Loch Tay, inviting an atmosphere of calm and the quiet joy of spring's arrival.
