This is the first of three 20x20" inchie canvases I have completed. Most of these inchies were from the "Prism" swap series hosted by LauraAust. Twenty-eight different artists are represented in these 289 inchies. If I ever need inspiration for a future inchie swap I'll be sure to find it here! Be sure to keep scrolling through my photostream. The next 12 pictures are detailed shots of the canvas. If you see some of your inchies feel free to shout it out in the comments or add a note to your actual inchies!

Our great instructor Dorothy is back at it with a new class on a very tiny form of art, Inchies! What are Inchies? Well here's Dorothy's description and some fantastic pictures. This will be a very fun class! Incredible Inchies Sunday, April 17, 2011 Time: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Location: Crown Hill United Methodist Church 8500 – 14th Avenue NW Bus Routes #48 or #15 (Enter through the north parking lot door or the east handicap door and follow the signs to the Fellowship Hall.) March’s workshop was Artist Trading Cards; April’s is Inchies--“very” miniature works of art that are 1 inch square to be traded or used to create a mosaic art piece. This workshop will provide all the paper materials and tools to make as many Inchies as you want. All crafters and artists, regardless of skill level, will enjoy creating and sharing their “masterpieces.” Come learn more about Inchies (and Twinchies, Rinchies, Rolos, and Moos). All ages are welcome--entire families are encouraged. Facilitator Dorothy Skans is a Seattle native and a life-long crafter. She joined Seattle Free School in order to pass along her love of paper art as well as to pass along her over abundance of paper. Register by going to www.seattlefreeschool.org

So I had more fun with the red stash from the Embroiders Guild colour raffle here are all the things I made to take to the group tonight Red inchies, a star garland, large vintage style heart, small furry heart with a stitched snowflake, a small wreath a small fabric bowl which I made from the waste piece from cutting out the stars. tonight the auction colour is white so I've gathered a little bag of goodies to take along with some threads and a sewing kit, we are going to be stitching Christmas cards and we are also having a secret santa.
All my crafting has been swap-related, and therefore mostly top secret, lately, so here are some of my inchies, all together in one place. ...
Over 450 inchies! I made a FEW of them but most are from swapping partners. Now I need Michael's to put their canvases on sale for 50% off so I can start a second one (I already have inchies to put on it). Feel free to point out any inchies that you created!
We always have those little scraps leftover... I've already done 65 ways to use paper scraps, but this post is strictly revolving around 1 i...
I love doing anything collage. Anything! (Just ask DH about the collaged phone in his office! lol) SO when I needed to make some inchies for trades, I thought I would go ahead and make a tutorial on what I use and how 'I' do collage in a small scale. I am most sure there are tons of different ways to make Inchies, but this is my way, and the supplies 'I' use. ArtsyMama is having an Artful Blogger party all day, so I thought I would be artsy and share this info. ** What some of my Inchies for your very own? Keep reading... ** Here goes (please excuse the pics, as they were taken at night): 1 - First, I pull on my hair and yell 'I have no idea what to do!' Then I just grab papers and try to get past my self-imposed artsy block (as usual). Scraps are great for this project, even the ends of painting projects. I used my Personal Trimmer to cut these up, but if you have a 1"x1" square punch, that would work great (and I would be jealous, because I don't have one yet.) 2 - I like to also grab extra scraps to use for contrast on the squares. Just for added interest. Sometimes I'll use a vellum, mulberry paper, handmade papers or tissue papers too. Scraps of watercolor projects are fun to use too. 3 - I have a 'thing' for images, in fact my friends can pick my ATCs out of a crowd because I almost ALWAY use a person on them. So my next requirement would be images. I have used the Mini Chix from ArtchixStudio, stamps are great for small detailed images, Starbucks stickers work well too. Anything with a small image you can cut out. Or, if you like stamps, pull out some that have smaller images, heads, etc... 4 - Okay, the 2nd thing I have a passion for are WORDS. I love for anything I make to have words, sayings, quotes, letters or even names on it. I just love the written word. It's probably why I'm a spelling and grammar fanatic. My favorite products for little words are the 7Gypsies Stickers with all the rows and rows of small words and sayings. I also like their RubOns 'Rubbings'. I think the white sheet of words I'm showing there might be K&Co? They just give any project that last little 'oompf'. 5 -Finally, my new love. Pens. Gel pens, puffy pens, glitter pens. You name it, I wanna use it. On these Inchies, I stuck with using the Sakura Glaze and Souffle pens. I'm also stuck in dot-land. I love making dots around the edges of all my projects. On some things I just draw a line around, and the glaze pens are so shiny! Now, It's just a matter of layering. Use your extra papers to enhance your backgrounds, put a strip across the middle or the bottom. Get creative. I even stamped on the background as well with a postage stamp set. Then, pick an image that might match the colors, or even contrasting colors give an interesting effect. Or stamp an image. Sometimes it looks cool to color in the image with marker or paint. Next, pick a rubon or sticker word that embodies the Inchie. This is the time to have a bit of fun. Finally add your final details with pens, star stamps, jewels, etc... I find that once I have all my supplies laid out and ready, these Inchies go very quickly. In fact I had to force myself to stop last night just so I could get some sleep. lol You can also add things like glitter, jewels, ribbon/fiber, paint, embellishment, little bits of fabric, sequins, game pieces and more. ** Want some of my Inchies?! Sign up to receive my Email Updates (in the upper right box, it says FeedBlitz). Confirm it when they send an email to you. I will draw a name at the end of the week and someone will win 10 Inchies! ** Have fun making some, and if you use this tutorial, let me know. I wanna see what you make!

Topic 4: Miniature Art Coming up over the next 2 weeks we are talking tiny, mini, miniature, diddy, tiny or perhaps you call them wee things. There are many words in the English language for 'small'. So what comes to mind for you? This?? Well here's just a few ideas in the video intro...but of course, there are loads more below, and about a zillion more in your crazy heads...let's do this! Mini makes.... Before we go into the next topic in depth .... let's see who the winner of the last challenge was. Plenty of you showed us the huge array of things you can do with paint, it really has to be THE most versatile colouring option out there for crafters! Fantastic ideas from you all, thanks for joining in.... over to the challenge boss.... Hi everyone, Darcy here. Wow! The Paint challenge was great. So many awesome ideas yet again. You guys are such an inspiration to watch at work. Thankyou for sharing with us. As you know, the last few weeks at PA HQ have been extremely busy with the new PA product launch, and a bunch of us went to the UK annual trade show last Saturday through Tuesday, affectionately know as 'stitches'. It's the UK's CHA equivalent, and a great chance for the shops to come, see what new releases manufacturers have for 2015, and place their orders. PaperArtsy had a fabulous show, and of course, their chalk paint has been such a big hit as they now move into year 5 of Fresco Chalk Acrylics....so shall we see who the paint challenge winner is??? And the winning name from Topic 2...goes to Margaret B from Marglovecrafting To claim your £50 voucher, please email me, Darcy with your details to [email protected] and I'll explain how you claim your prize. Ok, so it's Leandra back, and as you now know, the next topic is Miniature Art. Sometimes I find doing things on a small scale is less daunting. But it can also make you assess your composition, layout, and embellishments more closely...there is not much space, and to make an impact, perhaps you have to put a bit more thought into it? Too complicated and you lose the impact, too minimal, and it might still look bare. Resolving these things really appeals to me. Colours contrasting, texture, what will the focal point be...all things that you have to fit in a smaller space than normal. Are you up for this? Sometimes you can be sneaky, and make a small thing seem bigger on the inside...like this accordion style domino book... But then again, you can stick the pages together and just embrace the tiny pages... I think my favourite thing on the mini scale is domino art. I was addicted to this about 21 years ago! In fact, my first article in Craft Stamper Magazine was showing how to decorate a domino. We used to go to shows and swap them with other 'altered art' people. In the video, you can see a gorgeous mini domino book that my dear friend in New Zealand, Irene (she taught me everything) gave me. Its a gem, and it sits on a shelf above my desk so I can look at it and remember her, and how I got started in crafting. Here is an amazing example of domino art. So intricate! Love the bead-feet! I found this beautiful example below (the accordion pages above are the inside of it), there is a tutorial here on how to do it. So pretty with the beads as feet too! This one below is for sale here, there are some other stunning examples that might inspire you to have a go. We always would sand a domino to give it some tooth first, then a coat of fresco and you are on your way. I love the idea of using this as a super-mini canvas! Can you do it? If you get the really tiny dominoes you could make earrings... Or keep it simple like this option... What about Shrink plastic??...very much a marmite product...you love it or hate it! I love these books. Here the link to a tutorial.. When you see the gorgeous bracelet Lin Brown made a few years back, perhaps you'll think again. Lin made this.. Lin started with a very light coating of watery snowflake before she stamped the images made life easy, then she added colour. I think if you make a shrink bracelet, you need to fill it up so it looks busy. I love how Lin added layers, pearl beads, and sometimes more than one item on a jump ring. Makes it really interesting! Instructions are here. Here is another example, and I really like how the 2 layers add interest, one popping off the other. Its not complicated, but the vivid orange pops off the B&W background. Ohh I need one in every colour option! Instructions here. The problem with jewellery items is always coating/ sealing them with the right product that stays crisp and shiny when you wear it over and over....and even waterproof! Over time, glossy accents seems to dull. That and it's predecessor, Judikins Diamond Glaze were our go-to option back in the day for dominos. UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) also scratches up when worn, but you can zap it with a hit tool back to brilliant and shiny if you are careful. Ohhh we might see some more of those Leandra beads! The fondue UTEE technique is so much fun! (keep saying i MUST do a video on that!) Here's what Nicole did to make one into a bookmark! Of course UTEE can be used in a bout a zillion ways, just run a google for Suze Weinburg, she's the UTEE guru and genius with the mostest! There is lots of info on her blog...like how to do these... I will never forget when Tammy Tutterow started into melt art, she was dipping all kinds of stuff, and I love this example here, tissue flowers...just gorgeous...think of the ways you could take this...It's get-your-melt-pots-out time people!! OK, so there's a cazillion things you can do with moulds, clay, UTEE, resin.... and look...it's a perfect time for Treasure Gold Tickles! These days hard-setting resins (eg Ice Resin) are incredibly user-friendly. Perhaps resin is the best answer for sealing jewellery bits and bobs? I guess you guys will show us how you seal things for jewellery this week....let's face it...all jewellery counts a miniature art! And you can makes some stunning things with paper, resin, clay, beads.... ohhhh getting excited to see that! Pocket scrapbooking is smaller than 12x12 layouts, so that's mini art, isn't it? This one is lots of layers, with a simple 'bind-it-all' binding...wonder where my machine is hanging out... This one in a more formal folder, but hey, it's a mini album! It counts! What about coin envelope books/ pages...that was a huge thing, paper bag books too! Details here. This looks like fun too. Check out how its done here. When we go to France every year they talk endlessly about Mini albums....The French do love to make a mini album, or flick book. So that counts! In fact, we are over there April 10/11/12, and Jo Firth-Young is even teaching a mini book class! Check it out if you need an excuse to go to Paris!!! (like anyone needs an excuse to go there!!) Here's a mini album to hold inspirational quotes! yes really! And this one is using recycled materials...ohhhhh nice! I remember when we used to alter childrens' board books...they could be termed mini art too. We used to sand they gloss layer off, then gesso. But now you can attack with the frescos and your are on your way. Kind of like journalling on a hard surface... Check out this gorgeous example by Veronica Funk. What about tag books...they are a mini kind of book thing. In fact, it's fun to take one of our huge tags, and make that into a book cover, then make a signature of pages to go within....that's a diddy book! Inchie books!!! Adorable... How cute is this button book! Mini houses, I adore houses. This is fabulous, its an altoid tin. See more here... And what about this village on a rock!!! ... And a mini canvas, also very classic, elegant and just beautiful! Don't forget soldering, microscope slides, old fashioned photographic slides (eg kodak), mini fabric books, how about mini niches or canvases...or turning a chunky canvas over and using the tiny niche on the back?? Oh boy...so much to explore! Ok, enough already I hear you shout, ideas for a year, let alone 2 weeks, but whatever you choose to do, I do hope you make time to enjoy the process. Come and play with us! Don't rush it, we are all here to contemplate, enjoy, explore and learn from each other. It's not a race, it's a process. Your time to escape from the boring part of the week into your much more exciting creative zone. Reminder: we are exhibiting at Stamperama on Sunday, March 1st, 10-4. Lin Brown will be demoing with me, and there will be lots of PA twits to chat with, so come and say hi, and touch all our new products. You might see something you might like to buy too! It's happening at the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, Lytton Way, Stevenage. Not far up the A1(M), and the train station is VERY close. Hope to see you there! Have a great fortnight! Leandra We would love you to join in with challenge #4: Miniature Art. If you are inspired by any of our guests who blog with us over the next 2 weeks, then please join in and link up your creativity to this page. All links go in the draw to win a voucher to spend on products of your choice from the PaperArtsy online store. This link is open from Sunday Feb 22nd and will close 17:00 (London Time) Sunday, March 8th, 2015. The winner will be announced 2 hours later at 19:00.> An InLinkz Link-up Challenge Guidelines: 1. The challenge is a chance for you to show how you have been inspired by a particular technique of the fortnight. Your entry should contain: - a mention of which post inspired you and why, and - a link in your blog post to that original post on the PA blog. The whole concept of this challenge is 'play along with us'. You are encouraged to put your own twist on ideas you see on our blog, don't feel obliged to copy an idea exactly, but if you prefer to replicate, of course that is fine too. We love to see how you are inspired! 2. The link you put on our linky page must lead directly to the specific post on your blog where you have explored the technique/ idea mentioned in point 1 above. Don't link to the home page of your blog, or we will be unable to find the post to leave you comments. 3. Spam links will be deleted. 4. We prefer your challenge post is created exclusive to our challenge. Multiple challenge links in one blog post often creates a conflict of interest between the different challenge hosts. 5. You are most welcome to use stamps/ products/ substrates you have to hand from a variety of companies, we do not expect you to exclusively use PA products - but of course it's lovely when you do! 6. You can enter as many times as you like in the fortnight. We don't want to restrict your creativity or participation! Link closes at 17:00 Sunday March 8th. 7. The winner of the random draw will receive a £50 credit to be redeemed on the PaperArtsy Website, the credit includes VAT and postage. We request that one of your purchases is an A5 rubber stamp. You can add any other items to your basket, but the final total should not exceed £50 8. Each Sunday fortnight the winner will be announced at 19:00, also, in the same post, the link for the next fortnight will be posted. It's your responsibility to claim your prize coupon from Darcy: email her [email protected] Good Luck! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
This is another set of inchies I have been working on in natural colours of cream, greens & sand. I thought I would show you the whole piece before I cut it up. I stitched over the piece with some free machine embroidery in gold thread. All cut up! and ready for the next stage ......... This time I only used 12 of the 16 inchies in the arrangement. This was due to the size of frame which I had decided to use. I will post a picture of the other 4 pieces and the finished framed piece when I get a chance to photograph them, my camera battery died on me before I got any more shots. The finished piece was a gift for my Mum who celebrated her 81st birthday today we had a family lunch gathering at a nice Italian place near her home then back to hers for an assortment of desserts, coffee, wine and some 'Singstar' fun. Happy Birthday Mum x

Here's a set of green-themed inchies I made for a personal swap on Craftster! I had to sneak some other colors in there, too...
A while back, as part of the Just an Inch frenzy, we did a round of quilt squares. The idea was for everyone to create a quilt square as a postal, and when you received them all, you would have a 'quilt'. This is the result, which hangs in my craftroom. These were absolutely incredible little stamps, some being layered. Each stamp measures 1" square. The talented artists who contributed to this project included: Triple T, The Red Cat, Webfoot, Batty Girl, Dewberry, QuiltsNBees, The Flory Family, Lady Larva-ZZ, Sahalie, Bandaid, The Wolf Family, Six Stars, Chunna, Orion, Songbird, Dale End Farm, and me, of course!

A quick morning post to upload the ATC I made last night for the TMTA challenge this week of "Texture Effects". This is my first entry this year so I am a bit slow getting back into these weekly challenges... This one has a painted (Lumieres) and stamped (text) piece of tyvek which has been distressed by ironing (sounds cruel?) to get the textured effect. I've stitched it to cardstock with wire. I was looking for a suitable embellishment and found this little "model magic" mask that I made as part of a workshop with the wonderful and very entertaining Cathy Daulman in Adelaide in 2000 at the SDU convention - I think it was that long ago, I really am a hoarder! I am not into masks at all, they always spook me, but I can't throw something out that is perfectly usable. Anyway I know someone who will like this ATC so it was worth keeping it all these years. I haven't used tyvek much but making this has reminded me how versatile it is so I really should get it out more often. I would have stitched it to my cardstock if my sewing machine was working as I used a very lightweight tyvek but the wire probably looks better with the mask anyway!
What exactly is an inchie? It's a one inch square little work of art! Although I'd never made them before inchies are something I've wanted to try for a while. What better way than to get the creativity started than by signing up for an 'inchies' swap on craftster. I spent the other day cutting out hundreds of 1" squares and jumped right in. While you can buy a 1" square punch, I found that cutting the wee squares by hand was a really nice process. I love things that I can focus on and not really think much about... for me it's sort of like meditation. The problem now is that I have 100's of squares waiting for me to embellish :) Working in such a tiny space is challenging. I may try to do some decorating and doodling and chop a page into squares after the fact to see what the results are.
Today it was slightly sunny and warm. Not only did I feel in the mood for wearing a dress, I also was in the mood for creating this. (click pics to enlarge) It has been so much fun to make. I'm calling this 'Inchie Art' as the inspiration has come from 'inchies'. Although the little pieces of art aren't actually inch sized, they are each little pieces of mini art. This will be my September class at Sparkle Dreams in Swindon. Sunday 23rd September. Each person will be making their own unique piece of art on this large canvas to take home. It's a great way to learn lots of new techniques using a variety of different art mediums and supplies. I'm already so excited about this class. I've added the class to my website here if you want more details on how to sign up. I will prewarn you though. Looking at my rainbowed coloured hands.....you will get messy : ) Off to teach this class in Swindon tomorrow. My sister has her eye on this little house and reacons it will look better in her home than mine. I disagree!! I hope you are having a lovely weekend xxx
It's inchie madness! I made this spread of inchies last night after playing around with my watercolors. I just can't stop making them the last week or so. I need to find a nice square frame for these. Here's the left half of the doodles... ...And the right half! The cat and the jellyfish have the best colors, I think. So, now I guess I can now sort of identify in a tiny way with all those folks who were suffering heavy snowfall in the East! Can you believe that we've got snow here in Southern Alabama?! WTH! It's kind of wet snow, but I'm still surprised. I haven't seen snow in a couple of years... Well, it's supposed to snow all day, so I'm just hoping everyone's safe on the road. Crazy. Oh! and unrelated, we start moving next week! I'll try to keep finding time to craft, but you know how it goes. Happy snowy Friday!
Oooooo! Look what Judy of Judy’s Fabrications has been doing with her inchies! She’s making tiny, gorgeous trinket boxes. Brilliant! See lots more photos at her blog post.

Inchies for an inchies swap on Craftster.com
28 of 64 inchies with memories from the family. All made by hand with embroidery.
For the five things plus size swap. The idea is to take a piece of cardstock and just glue, paint, stamp and emboss on it. Afterwards I cut the squares and embellished them. I enjoyed this a lot, I'm going to start making ATCs this way too.
This is also my TAST challenge. The squares have all been buttonholed around the edge, and I also added a button hole wheel.
I'm slowly inching my way into finishing the wearable art squares I started last summer. Still have 14 more to go...
I had a request for some fabric inchies from a lovely lady here on Flickr. For a swap we are doing. It was fun working in miniature again!
