I'm not sure about this one. Let me tell you why and you can let me know what you think. So some of you may have noticed that I got a new camera. And with this new camera is a lens that has a focal length down to 18mm. This is a new experience for me and has forced a new level of learning into my photography. This photo was taken with the 18mm focal length, which gives it somewhat of a distorted look. The lower part of the picture looks a bit too stretched out to me. And I see this kind of distortion all the time. Maybe I'm too much of a purist but It's kind of distracting to me and degrades my assessment of the overall photo. But I've never seen any other comments on Flickr critiquing this effect. On the contrary, this effect is employed often, mostly by photographers way beyond my skill level. In its defense, the wider angle does allow one to capture all the contributing elements to great effect. I'm just not a big fan of it. On the whole, I am dubious of all things that manipulate the truth whether the truth is enshrouded in a photograph or in a wily advertisement. So what do you think? And what about the distortion going on in this photo? To be sure, I manipulated this scene, as I do with most of the photos I post here, with Picasa's post-processing tools. How cunning of me, eh?
