Artist Nicolas Delort lives and works in the suburbs of Paris where he creates evocative and imposing illustrations using ink and scratchboard. Each piece represents a moment from an unknown narrative leaving me filled with questions in the same way Chris van Allsburg’s The Mysteries of Harris Burdick leaves you curious of the circumstances behind each image. Delort is officially represented by Shannon Associates where you can see much more of his work and hopefully hire him to illustrate a graphic novel that I will wait in line to purchase. More

A black and white ink drawing I did from the top of my head. When I drew this I loved how my initial idea starts to develop and change as the work progresses. It is both driven by me and guided by the fantasy it creates. (Spooky!) As I went on I imagined it became roughly based on 16th century Europe where much older buildings are reworked and embellished over time by different guardians. Smell the briny water as it laps at the limpet encrusted foundations, birds startled by the hourly gong and behind the eternal soft tick of time. This is an instant download of a high resolution scan from my original drawing. You must print the download yourself or take it to a print service. It will look fantastic framed on your wall.

spells-of-life: Flirting with Death
We spot the cloud of dust rolling towards us and we pull over. Sain baina uu, we call out. 'Hello!' The man slows, stops. Spit flows from his horse's mouth. Rider and steed have been traveling for hours in the hot sun. They don't go much faster than a steady trot because perched on the man's arm, hooded and calm, is a large and majestic-looking eagle. 'Hello,' he replies, squinting down at us in the sunlight. This is my first
