An easy peasy way to draw an exceptionally tall giant! Age: Upper primary Resources: paper, pencil, eraser, watercolour paint, ruler What you do: STEPS 1- 4 I have drawn in pen so you can see! You do it all in light pencil because you are going to need to rub some lines out before you paint. 1) Using a pencil on A4 white paper draw a point in the middle of the top and one at the middle of the bottom. Join these lines using a ruler. Then draw a line from the top middle to each bottom edge. 2) Next, draw a line about 2 cm from the top and one about 5 cm from the top. These are for the head and the waist lines. Then draw a head, a waist and arms. 3) Now add curved trouser bottoms and curved shoes. 4) Draw the sides of the boots and the soles then add the eyelets and laces. Add the sleeves of the shirt, braces and curves lines for the waist. Draw the giants face. Erase all the lines you don't need now. 5) Paint with watercolours. Add a background. This idea came from Usborne Art Ideas: Big Book of Things to Draw

As Lorde once said, "and we'll never be royals"; but we can sure party like them with the sweetest Union Jack Yarn Heart Garland. Help commemorate the upcoming coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. If you're having a party or simply want to add a bit of pizzazz to your home or work area, you are going to love these yarn crafts. It's a simple project that uses scrap or recycled materials. It's easy enough for kids but a fun craft for adults as well. You can even turn each yarn heart into an ornament instead of garland if you prefer. There are actually several different uses for this easy-peasy craft project. The Union flag pattern lends itself well to the shape of a heart, however, you could easily choose other colors or one color of yarn for occasions other than royal weddings, especially as an even easier yarn craft for kids. PLUS! These Union Jack Cupcakes on RecipeLion are the perfect complement to this garland. Check them out and get decorating!
“The Gruffalo” è una delle storytelling che preferisco perché consente di sviluppare un percorso interdisciplinare completo, è il punto di partenza per creare tante attività e rendere i bambini partecipi nell’affrontare, in modo semplice, argomenti complessi. La morale racconta come un astuto topolino riesca a sfuggire ai predatori del bosco, fingendosi amico di uno spaventoso mostro […]
Throughout the year my students have really strengthened their writing. Their ideas are growing by leaps and bounds, and their grammar, structure, and organization is also improving. The one thing that continues to plague them, even my best writers, is consistently using and formatting dialogue properly. Why is it that students find using quotation marks correctly so difficult? This week I was feeling ambitious, so I decided to tackle it. Here are a few activities and things I tried with my kiddos. Feel free to give them a try and let me know how they work out. I also welcome any other ideas you have. I started by telling my kiddos that I wrote a story and wanted their opinion. I displayed the story on the smart board. It was a story that contained lots of dialogue, but no quotations marks or proper punctuation or formatting. They quickly identified what the problem was. As a class, we went through and they edited it together. Next it was time for some buddy practice and reteaching opportunities for those who needed it. I found a wonderful FREE resource by Kristine Nannini on teacherspayteachers.com. Here's the link to the wonderful resource. Thanks Kristine! It provides great hands-on practice with a little scaffolding built in! As they worked in pairs, I floated around the room and gave assistance as needed, and also pulled a small reteach group for a few friends that were really struggling. Time to apply the skill to writing. I gave students the choice of either working in pairs or working independently. Most chose to work with a friend. I then posted three pictures for students to choose from. Their assignment was to write a short story that included dialogue between the two animals. I told them that of course it would be funny, but they just needed to be sure to write and format the dialogue correctly. They really enjoyed this activity and came up with some great conversations. 4. Independent Practice: Due to the way our schedule worked out, they ended up doing this part a few days later, so it really was a good indication of how much they remembered and could actually apply the skill in their writing. I posted one more picture, and instructed them to write a story (that included dialogue) based on the picture. They got a real hoot out of the picture and came up with some really creative and truly good stories :) And amazingly, they did a really good job writing their dialogue correctly! 1-2-3 Come Do A "Jack and the Beanstalk" Fairy Tale Craft With Me Do you read the fairy tale genre to your children? It’s one of my students’ favorite themes. Among their favorites is Jack and the Beanstalk. To help them sequence & retell the story, I designed this super-fun beanstalk craft. So that you can quickly & easily make an example to share, I’ve included full-color patterns, as well as the black & white ones for students. Children color & cut out the castle & title cloud, then glue them together. An 8-link paper chain is suspended from the bottom of the cloud. Three leaves, with story element captions (Setting, Characters & Events) add to the beanstalk’s appearance. Since there are a variety of versions for Jack & the Beanstalk, I’ve included a number of “picture tile” options. Students choose the ones that were in the story that they read, then color & cut out these mini "pages". They sort the picture pages into the 3 different story element categories: setting, characters & events, then sequence each group of pages, in the order that they appeared in the fairy tale. These “itty bitty” storytelling booklets, are then glued to the appropriate leaf. Before displaying, have students partner up, taking turns explaining what the setting is and who the characters are, then retelling the tale using the picture prompts. For writing practice, and to further check comprehension, I’ve also included a “Here’s What Happened…” worksheet, which can be done as a whole group with little ones. Completed projects look terrific suspended from the ceiling as a border along a hallway wall. I've included a "Climbing new heights in reading" poster to add extra pizzazz to your display, which is sure to garner lots of compliments from passers by! Today's featured FREEBIE is a back to school apple puzzle. This is an inexpensive little gift you can make for your kiddos for that first day of school, which will occupy their time for a bit, freeing you up. I've also included a large apple puzzle, to be used as an independent center activity, as well as a blank grid, to help younger students easily put their puzzles together. The patterns come in color, as well as black and white, so kiddos can color, then cut out their own puzzle, then put it together; which gives you even more "sanity saving" time. Well that's it for today. Thanks for popping in. It's a lovely summer day here in Michigan. So love the sunshine streaming in my office window, along with a frangrant and gentle breeze. Feeling very contented and blessed. Wishing you a carefree day.
