How to Sew an Easy Crazy Quilt Block: It is ungodly hot outside, so it seemed like a pretty good day to sit in the basement and play with my sewing machine... and on days like this I tend to go for Crazy Quilt blocks, which look awesome, are super easy, and require very little actual m…

Happy Needle and Thread Thursday, y'all. As I mentioned in last week's NTT, I dropped off my beloved Regina Bernina for regular servicing on the way to QuiltCon last week (ps- it was AMAZING, and I can't wait for next year!). Anyway, she's all spiffed up and ready to go, so I'm planning to pick her up tomorrow. The shop is about 1.5 hours away- almost exactly halfway between here and Nashville, so dropping her off on the way to QuiltCon was easy, but it's not exactly a quick pickup. Instead, while waiting for her to be ready, since getting home I've been sorting and pressing my yellow scraps, which are next up in my giant color wheel project. I've also taken this time to finish up the pattern for the secret quilt I showed last week. So, since I don't have any fun eye candy to share from my studio, let's get right to last week's party highlights. This sweet, scrappy finish is by Something Rosemade- Jan at The Colorful Fabriholic linked up this pretty plus quilt- Amber at Sew With Sparkles shared this Alison Glass feather quilt, along with a great story of her first foray into quilting- and finally, I am in love with this fun, scrappy heart quilt by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color- Wow! Between browsing all of the fantastic projects from last week's party and all of the amazing inspiration at QuiltCon last weekend, I'm itching to get going on those yellow scraps. I can't wait to get my machine back tomorrow! If you didn't make it to Nashville, you should definitely look through all of the photos on Instagram to marvel at all of the gorgeous modern quilts. I know they'll spark your creativity! Alright, let's party! 1. You can link finished projects or WIP's , but just keep it about quilting and sewing! 2. Link to your specific post (not to your home page!) to make it easier for others. 3. Please remember to spread the word and post my button or a text link. 4. Spread the comment love far and wide! 5. Following me is not a requirement to link, but is so very appreciated! *If you're new to the party, here's a helpful tip for linking up- select "Auto Crop" when selecting your thumbnail photo. For some reason, trying to crop your own image results in the dreaded "white question mark box," and we definitely want to see your awesome work! :)

A pictoral tutorial: 1) Make a TEMPLATE with 10" Hexie Half Ruler, 7" Circle Ruler. 2) Gather Supplies: 12" square Non-Fusible lightweight interfacing (Pellon 905) 12" square backing 10" square heat reflective batting (Thinsulate, Insulbright, etc.) 1 or 2 @ 10" squares cotton batting * 10" square focus fabric * *Cut using Hexie-Half large ruler for 10" squares. Fold the 10-inch square in half, and place the dotted seamline on the fold. 3) Backing: Trace template on wrong side of fabric. Layer right sides together with interfacing. Stitch on the outer drawn lines, pivoting at inner corners. Trim curves with pinking shears for a nice, notched smooth result. Clip inner corners. Snip Pellon Turn right side out. Press. Lay out backing, mylar batting, cotton batting, focus fabric. Add an additional 2nd layer of batting below mylar, if desired. Pin; then stitch from point to point, quilting through all the layers. (Followed a line of tape to keep line straight without marking.) Stitch from point to point. Fold each curve over the raw edges and stitch along the curved edges to finish. I used a blanket stitch. Voila! A Hot Hexie Hot Pad. See this VIDEO for a terrific Grandmother's Flower Garden table-topper with matching hot pads, made using this technique. All I can say is, "WOW!" What a crowd! What a lot of famous faces! What a lot of prizes! What a lot of FUN! I am ashamed to say that even though I had my camera, I did not get even one photo of the event -- I guess I was just kind of over-whelmed and star-struck. The sponsors of the event provided SO MANY prizes that nearly everyone won something! I won a charm pack of Lizzy House's new line Outfoxed by Andover Fabrics. (Now I want *acres* of those three color-ways of the pearl bracelets -- so pretty!) I try to limit my use of the word "awesome" but in this case no other word adequately describes the evening: AWESOME! And we have another meet-up yet to come: Saturday, 5 November The Hyatt Lobby Bar 8:00 pm These are our lovely sponsors:

This is another series that I thought would be useful to be able to see them all in one place. The Dodecagon Series consists of twelve 12-sided designs each five inches in diameter and all uniformly shaped that were created by Jim Wurth of Wurthwhile Stitching. Like I have done for such similar group postings before, there will be a link under each photograph so that if you are interested in reading more about one individual ornament and/or see additional photos, all you have to do is click on the link under each individual photo and it will bring you to the original posting. Since I know how well these ornaments have been popular I am including herewith all the necessary information so that if you are interested in stitching them, you will know who to contact. (Before I go any further I would like to mention that I have absolutely no vested interest in this designer or any other designers mentioned on my blog - I only do this in order to help both designers and stitchers) Jim Wurth email address is as follows and he can be contacted at this address: [email protected] Jim has a Yahoo group that has been created expressly for the Dodecagon Ornament Series and Jim is there to answer questions, but this is not an online class. Link for Jim's Dodecagon Ornament Series Yahoo group is here Now for those of you who are wondering where these ornaments are being sold, here is a bit of information for you all. There is one needlepoint shop that exclusively sells these designs and it is Threadneedle Street located in California and here are the contact details in case some of you might be interested: Marianne Bergson, Owner Threadneedle Street 75-645 Dempsey Drive Palm Desert, CA 92211 (760) 340-0411 email: [email protected] So, here are the photographs of each ornament in the order they were sent to me for stitching. First ornament of this series: Coronation For more information, please follow this link. Second ornament of this series: Mojave For more information, please follow this link. Third ornament of this series: Poirot For more information, please follow this link. Fourth ornament of this series: Monrovia For more information, please follow this link. Fast & Easy Raw-edge applique clamshell pillow tutorial made from one charm square pack of quilt fabric. My photos will walk you through the steps to make this beautiful pillow.
Hola a tod@s!! . . ¿porqué no?
This variation of the Tile Puzzle block makes an awesome looking quilt and is beginner friendly! It uses only squares and half square triangle units to create a complex-looking block.
No. 444 category: Limet-Filling pattern stitches used: Satin stitches over one square in the width and 2 squares x 7 stitches of warped eyelet longitudinal striped pattern longitudinal axis:withdrawn thread line Starting in the middle, always alternate withdrawing 1 vertical thread and leaving 3 vertical threads. Do the same with the horizontal threads; it is best to start right below the concave point of the heart (upper point). In rows, from bottom to top and back, embroider Satin stitches as “bars”. Leave the two centermost square-rows unworked, and stitch a Satin stitch bar over 1 square in the width, *leave 2 square-rows unworked and stitch another Satin stitch bar*. Always repeat the steps (*), until one half of the shape is filled. Again starting in the middle, fill the second half mirrored. You now have pairs of vertical square-rows. The left side of each pair of square-rows is now embroidered from bottom to top with parts of the warped eyelet. Therefore work, always starting at the same point, 7 stitches over 1 square in the width, moving with every stitch one fabric thread up. For the exact placement of the stitches, please look to the enlarged image. For more detailed description please refer to my book “Limetrosen I”. The remaining square-row is embroidered from top to bottom mirrored to the first. The finished pattern – here yet unwashed – has a three-dimensional effect.
