Hi my crafting friends, today I want to share with you a wire wrapped earring DIY project. You will learn how to make consecutive loops using two paralleled wires, as well as how to use them to embellish the pearl. It is a simple but clever design, perfect for summer wedding or beach vacations. Now let's get started! Material Needed 50cm 28 gauge kc gold soft copper wire 60cm 22 gauge kc gold soft copper wire Ten 3mm pearl beads Two 12mm coin pearl beads Step 1. Creative Loops Using Two Wires There are a lot of fun techniques relating to wire wrapping, making consecutive loops is definitely one of them. On top of it, I used two wires for those loops for a unique look. Please note those loops need to be made by hands, not looping pliers. It will be difficult for the looping plier to hold two wires at the same time and keep them parallel. After adding the coin pearl, remember to cut one wire off. We only need one wire for the large hoop on top of the pearl. Step 2. The Large Hoop And Embellishments The great part of this design is you can create the whole earring using only one piece of wire. After embellishing the coin pearls, we can use the rest of the wire to create the large hoop on top. To match the small consecutive loops at the bottom, the hoop is also made of two parallel wires. The two wires then can be weaved together using the 28-gauge soft wire, as well as some cute small pearls. Once the the hoop is finished, simply add an ear wire on top and our beautiful earring has been completed! You can learn how to make five different types of ear wire in this post. I hope by now you've had a deep understanding about this DIY project. Below is a step-by-step picture illustration for your reference.
Carol Dekle-Foss Rain has finally come to California. Hallelujah! The weather has been BEAUTIFUL. The rain has been coming down is soft sheets, and it's comforting knowing it's filling the empty lakes and reservoirs. I made a visual for you guys, so you can see just how bad the drought was. Look for the arrows showing a rock as a landmark. This is a park near my house that has a walking path along the South Fork American River. This river is one of the major rivers in California and flows from Lake Tahoe. We are on the right path to putting a big dent in this drought. Thank god! It was heartbreaking watching its effects on the landscape and animals. Okay, on to jewelry making! I wanted to give reticulation silver a try because I just LOVE the look. The texture reminds me of ridges and valleys of the earth's landscape. So beautiful! I bought this 3" x 1.5" piece from Rio. It cost me about $3.80 per square inch. Not too bad considering sterling silver sheet in the same gauge is about $3.50 per square inch right now. They have another type called Crinkle silver. The texture is smaller, and it looks amazing, but it's so expensive! I guess it all depends on what you are making and how much you are willing to charge. It's simple and fun to do. Here are some instructions from Rio on how it's done and what you will need. I only used half of the piece I purchased. It didn't shrink all that much like I thought it would, so you still get almost the same size metal to work with after its reticulated. Here's a close up video of me doing the reticulation. I sped it up so it's less than a minute and plays one of my all time favorite songs by Katie Melua. Pretty cool watching the silver follow the torch flame! So yesterday, while I was getting ready to try reticulation for the first time, a video came through on my Youtube feed from Nancy T Hamilton. The title was "Fusing Silver and Reticulation on Copper". I thought, what perfect timing! I tried the reticulation on copper part so I could show you guys the results and do a mini comparison! I cut a piece of 20 gauge copper about 1.5" square and added little scraps of sterling silver. I also had to use a larger tip on my torch to get the silver to melt. Below is a short, less than a minute video of the melting process! Here's how it turned out. VERY cool texture. Its more wavy , sorta looks like tree branches to me. Here's a side by side comparison. You can really see the difference in color. Also the one with the copper backplate has a bunch of teeny pitted holes. I think next time I will flux the backplate to see if that will help. Still, not a bad texture for metal that's already lying around the studio! I've yet to create jewelry with these beauties because I've been busy opening a brand new Etsy shop for our ceramic pieces! I'm offering a 25% off discount through the end of January. Just use coupon code winter25. Etsy has a 'bug' right now, so my shop isn't offering Paypal as a payment option as of yet. If you would like to pay that way, all products are on my website, and the same discount code will apply. Thank you for reading!

In the middle of life's storms, it's hard to remember that this too shall pass. When lashed by winds of change, and the tempests of heartache, the beauty and blessings of our lives can seem very remote. Yet high above us, those same clouds that blanket our horizons reach up in endless towering cascades to the Heavens, and have their own beauty if only we remember to look. Storm Clouds is forged in sterling silver, and frames a unique designer Plume Agate. The detailing in this gem was so striking, I carefully crafted the setting to emphasize the translucency of the stone. Agates are a wonderful blend of opaque and translucent matrices, reminding me of the sun gleaming against towering Cumulo-Nimbus storm clouds. Storm Clouds measures 2 inches in length, and includes an 18 inch Sterling Silver chain.

About the Technique Wire-wrapping is the artisanal technique of taking malleable wire and wrapping it around itself or beads to form unique shapes and patterns. It is a jewelry artform used to connect several pieces together without having to solder or heat the metal wire. For the Talavera collection, Lucina wire-wrapped Talavera ceramic beads into unique designs to create the perfect marriage between traditional and contemporary design. Talavera ceramic is typical of the state of Puebla, Mexico. It is recognized for its white background with designs in blue but it comes in all colors. Original Talavera pottery from Puebla is only made in the state, specifically in the towns of Atlixco or Cholula, due to the high quality of the clays found in these regions and the four-centuries-old traditional manufacturing. The Talavera used in her designs was sourced from Talavera Salazar in Puebla, México.
