Created in France circa 1950 and set in the original carved gilt frame, the hand painted canvas is a rendition of Jules Worms "The Politicians". The art depicts an outdoor scene with men in formal clothing talking gathered in a court yard; the scene is further embellished with intricately painted architecture. The artwork is signed in the lower right corner by the artist, Alina. The Realism style painting is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns wonderful details and colors; a great wall decor for an office or study! Jules Worms (1832–1924) was a French painter and illustrator. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Jean-Adolphe Lafosse and debuted at the Paris Salon in 1859. About Born Julius Pincas in 1885 in Bulgaria, the artist adopted the name Jules Pascin under which his paintings are known. Pascin studied in Vienna and Munich, and traveled and painted regularly in Paris and Berlin. Pascin came to the United States in 1914 and in 1920 became a US citizen. He returned later that year to Paris, often frequenting the Café du Dome and Montmartre, taking part in the bohemian artistic community and drawing upon his group of friends as models for his figural works. Pascin was a member of the Woodstock Art Association and exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Salon d’Automne in Paris, Salons of America and Art Institute of Chicago. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Detroit Institute of Art.
