Hi and welcome to my blog. Today I'm sharing pictures of two junk journal I've made inspired by the wonderful Amity Bloom. My junk journals are for sale in my ETSY Store. https://www.etsy.com/shop/OutOfTheCraftroom I've also have two flip through video's on my You Tube Channel. There you can see both journals in full. https://youtu.be/Siz3fh1SEGs https://youtu.be/fvFjb0hfk0Y Thanks so much for stopping by. Hugs, Henriëtte.
Do you ever look at journal covers on Pinterest and think, "How do they do that?" I often find myself perusing beautiful, layered journals, wondering how people are so creative?! I imagine some crafty lady in a beautiful studio with shelves of pretty, decorative boxes labeled "papers" and "embellishments" and "lace". She carefully chooses each item: vintage, tea-stained papers and little metal charms. And somehow, magically, a junk journal cover is born. Okay, I know it's not quite as fantastic as that. How do I know? Because my craft studio is my dining table. And my shelves of boxes are sprawled across numerous cabinets & closets in my home. And labels? Ha ha. They would all have to say, "junk" on them because I'm not the most organized person. So, how do we mere mortals create beautiful layered journal covers? With tutorials and kits! Ha ha! Seriously, though, I created a pretty little printable kit which you can find in my Etsy shop (My Porch Prints). And I also made this tutorial. So, follow along, and together we'll make some lovely layers worthy of Pinterest! List of Supplies/Printables: Layered Junk Journal Cover Kit (Etsy) Tim Holtz Ornate Plates Distress Ink Cheesecloth Bulb Safety Pins Metal Key Charms Various Lace & Ribbons Craft Supplies (Glue, Scissors, Etc.) So, first I cut out a cardboard piece that will serve as my journal cover.* I'm not actually creating an entire journal today, just the cover. If you want a junk journal tutorial, click here. I also cut out all my printables.*You can also create a journal first, and then attach these printables to the cover. I rounded the corners of my cardboard cover by creating a template cut from a corner of scrap cardstock. This ensures all my rounded corners are even. Then, I used a makeup sponge to apply Distress Ink around the edges. I chose the words I wanted to use from my printable kit and carefully tore them out, then inked the edges. Next, I rounded the corners of my background paper and inked it as well. Then I applied glue, spreading it with a brush and glued my paper to my cardboard. This serves as my background, kind of like a canvas for my layers. I wanted a lace element, so I added this to the edge of my journal with glue. Now it was time to start layering. I inked all the edges of my printable elements and then began placing them on my journal cover background to get an idea of how it would look when it was all finished. I think the key to layering is not to worry about covering up the layer underneath. I always think, "But I can't cover up this pretty thing! It will ruin it!" Nope! It really is okay to cover up one layer with another. Trust me. Begin with tall or large items first. It's okay if items hang off the edges a little. I inked bits of cheesecloth and used them behind small pieces to add interest, texture & dimension. To add my journal title, I chose the word "imagine" and cut it out. Then, I placed it behind my book plate and pressed gently. This created indentations in the paper, which I used as a guide when cutting out my title word. I glued the title word to my journal and attached my bookplate. You can use the fasteners provided or glue. Last, I added a small key charm, attaching it to my lace as shown. I also threaded some pink ribbon through the lace holes. And that was it! The printable kit is designed so the colors and pieces go together for easy layering. Enjoy!

You can embellish the cover or add washi or fabric to cover the staples. I used 5 x 7 inch paper in this quick demonstration. Inspired by Natasha from Treasure Books. #junkjournalsofinstagram...

These free printable Journal Covers would be lovely to use for a Junk Journal or Art Journal. They have a pretty Garden theme!
I call this Journal "Herbal Garden," and it has been designed for writing, photos and keepsakes, using genuine as well as printed ephemera, envelopes, many tags, pockets and tuck spaces. I have used many fussy cut herb images. It is quite chunky, and items can be removed from the many pockets if you desire a thinner journal. There is a lot of writing space. This is a large Journal, and it incorporates some of my old Italian book pages from the 1700s and 1800s. I have used tea stained paper, envelopes, pages from the original vintage book, and vintage music paper for the pages. It is very interactive. The Journal is 6 1/4 inches wide by 9 inches high and 2 1/4 inches thick. It is blind sewn and has four signatures with 80 pages and 160 sides. It also has several fold outs. The cover is hard and covered with botanical paper. The cover is accented with a herbal image and vintage lace. Free Domestic Shipping.

Winter CHA has come to a close and the ordering/shipping has begun!! Hopefully Tales of You and Me will be at your fingertips very soon. You really want this gorgeous collection created by my wonderful creative friend Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing. I am in love, and so lucky to have been invited to the very first Frank Garcia Design Team!! The Memory Hardware that adorns this journal is also incredibly beautiful!! I had a blast creating this mini using The Memory Hardware Journal - Gatefold created by Frank. There a few different size and types of albums ready for you to adorn. They are all fantastic! This is the front of the journal. To prepare the album. I edges all of the edges with Chalk Edger in Vintage Pink. I adhered a brown card stock to all of the pages including the covers. For the cover, sides and back I used 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Jardin de Fleurs. For the inside I used a variety of papers from the collection. Here is a close up of the journal. I die cut a frame from corrugated cardboard sprayed it with Color Blooms in Empress Gold, cut it in half and adhered it to either side of the front covers. The Memory Hardware - Montmartre Latch was used for the closure. When you first open the Memory Hardware Journal - Gatefold , this is what you see. I die-cut a frame, sprayed it with Color Bloom - Empress Gold and layered some corrugated cardboard and patterned paper over the top page. I distressed the edges and sprayed the exposed cardboard with the Empress Gold as well. This is a close up of the die cut frame. I also gave the page a light spray of the Empress Gold. I added another die cut and sprayed it with the Empress Gold Color Bloom spray and added the Memory Hardware - Louviers Antique Chain and attached them with Memory Hardware - Villeneuve Antique Rings. The sign is free hanging and ready for journaling or a photo. The opposite page has a pocket I created to hold tags and cutouts from 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Contes de Toi et Moi paper. I created a pocket page on this section as well. All of the tags were die cut and the cutouts were just tucked into the pocket. I created a vertical waterfall feature using the cutouts from the 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Contes de Toi et Moi. There is plenty of real estate in this journal for photos and journaling. When putting the pages together using the patterned paper, I have used the Memory Hardware - Artisan Adhesive Tape. This tape is like no other. It adheres and hold up so well. On the back of each page, I added a die cut frame for more photos. I sprayed the frames with Empress Gold Color Bloom Spray. This is how thick the journal is when all closed up. Three are 6 pages total. For the spine of the journal, I punched 3 holes on the top and placed eyelets for strength. I created a dangle for the spine by stringing the Memory Hardware Glass Pearls and a few of my jewelry spacers (from my personal stash) onto an eye-pin. The Memory Hardware - La Rochelle Antique Trinkets are hanging from Memory Hardware - Louviers Antique Chain and I attached them with Memory Hardware - Villeneuve Antique Rings. ONce each dangle was created, I strung them onto the largest ring and placed them through the middle hole I created on the spine. Here is a close up of the dangles I created. Here is the back of the journal. Thank you for joining me for a look at the gorgeous collection Tales Of You And Me. This is a collection that is a must have. Especially if you like shabby chic Romantic. Valentines Day is coming up!! Think of what you can create with this collection. It is perfect!!
