Hello and welcome! Today's card features Karen Burniston's Fireplace Pop-Up and Holiday House die sets. Since the Fireplace Pop-Up came out, I've only used it once to make my "Haunted Mansion" Fireplace Pop-Up card. Now with Christmas just around the corner, I am making cards for family and decided to make a Christmas card using the Fireplace Pop-Up. For this card, I started with an A2 sized card using a smooth red cardstock. One thing I love about using Karen's dies is I can usually go through my scrap cardstock to die cut the small pieces. Well this time I was able to use scraps for the wallpaper background and floor. I cut a piece for the wall trim using a dark brown cardstock. For the fireplace, I used a light gray cardstock and added some dimension using Distress Oxide ink in Black Soot around the edges of the fireplace. I was going to make the Santa boots come out of the fireplace, but I really wanted to add a fire and no one wants to set Santa on fire (lol) so I decided to scrap the Santa boots and went with a fire. I die cut it out of white cardstock and colored it with Copic markers. I used Karen Burniston's Fireplace Extras 1 and Fireplace Extras 2 to create all the added elements, such as the garland on the mantel, the wreath and the candles. I used scrap cardstock for all the small pieces. I used a piece of cardstock with little pictures of Santa and Frosty to create the photos on the wall of this room. For the "rug" I used Karen Burniston's Oval - Crosshatch dies. For the front of this card, I used Lawn Fawns Stitched Ripple Backdrop die and a light blue cardstock. Then I used scrap pieces of cardstock to make the holiday house. I also used Karen Burniston's Outdoor Scene die to make the tree/snow background. I used my Copic markers to color the trees in the background. I used My Favorite Things Bitty Holiday Wishes to stamp the sentiment on the front of the card. I just love how the fireplace came out. I find it easy to put together and with all the little extras, you can make your fireplace pop-up just POP! If I don't post anything later this week, I want to take this time to wish each and everyone of you a wonderful holiday season, Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and as always Happy Crafting!
This month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge is titled "Naughty or Nice?" We were to make a Christmas card incorporating a stocking. I decided to use the Fireplace Pop-Up and Fireplace Extras 1, which includes stockings. About 10 years ago I saw a card by Grace Nywening which she called a Center Easel Card. I thought it was such a clever take on the easel card that I printed out her blog post so I would have the instructions. This month's challenge was perfect for this type of card. The Fireplace Pop-Up fit perfectly in the easel section . . . . . . and the "Merry Christmas" was the perfect "bumper" to hold the card open. I'm so glad I hung onto those instructions. I have a bonus Designer Challenge card for you, one which uses one of the new dies -- the Raising Platform Pop-Up. The stocking part of the challenge is on the front of the card -- along with various other Karen Burniston dies. By the way, do you see that embossing on the front? That was made with the Pattern Plate - Holly die, run through my Cuttlebug with the rubber embossing mat. (Yes, I still use my Cuttlebug for embossing.) The sneak peek part of this card is on the inside. The Raising Platform pops up to wish you a Merry Christmas. As I already had the Pattern Plate - Holly die out on my table, I decided to cut some greenery to decorate the inside. I used one of the Christmas Borders for some more stockings. I hope you like my cards.
The challenge at Karen's Doodles this week is Emboss It and at Partytime Tuesday it is Anything Goes. I am in the mood for Holiday cards and made this one with a new embossing folder I got from Sizzix. The tree is made with half of a large circle cut out from two sided dp. The instructions and pattern for the tree can be found here. CAS but I love it:) Stamping smiles, Karen

Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge for December has each designer working with a different Pop 'n Cuts insert - fun idea!!... my insert was the House die, which I used in the Square Card with Ornate Edges base. I had in mind a gingerbread house, decorated with sweets, and I ended up doing a bit of hand-drawing to get the look I was after. For the top border, I used Tim Holtz Tinsel, and a tag from Karen's Gift Card Holder Framelits set, plus bits from my stash. (I didn't have the right colour heart brads, so coloured them with Copic marker.) For the house, I used lots of bits from Karen's House Thinlits set - the windows and sills, glitter card eaves (which I covered with more brads), and a pink door which I embossed with a Tim Holtz woodgrain folder. I drew the decorations around the windows and coloured them with White Uniball pen and Copics. I also drew some candy canes, and a little wreath, also coloured with Copics, and cut them out with Cutter Bee scissors. (I hope you are impressed with my cutting out the centre of the wreath... that thing is tiny!!) I also made a layered door mat, and some snow drifts in the garden, which are stuck on little tabs. I added lots of Stickles accents. For the bottom border, I punched out a load of circles, and drew some peppermint sweets on them, coloured with Copics, and added them to a strip of card along with some brads, then glued the whole strip down. The papers are from October Afternoon, and the edges are all inked with black Distress Ink. (Update: If you would like to see another gingerbread house card of mine, using more current products, it is here.) Some of products used:

My Blog Hop card features the new Oven Pop-Up and Oven Extras!! For my card, I started with a 5x7 card base using Neenah Classic Crest 110lb smooth white cardstock. I found this great patterned paper from Michaels and used that for the floor and the brick wall background. I began by die cutting the pop-up mechanism. Because I wanted to expand my counters, I die cut two pop-up mechanisms. One was glued into the middle of the card. The second, I used to create additional pop-up area, as shown below. First, I butted the second mechanism up to the first. Then with my pencil, I traced the outline of the mechanism onto the bottom piece. I did the same for the other side of the pop-up. This way, when the pieces are cut they easily fit together, creating a seamless area for the counters and oven to pop-up together. Once I had the areas traced out, I carefully cut them with a pair of scissors. I discarded the remaining pop-up mechanism, because I didn't need the middle area. Once I had all the pop-up mechanism pieces ready, I began gluing them into my card. I started with the middle piece, folding and gluing as per the packaging instructions. For the two smaller pieces, I just followed the same directions, butting them up next to the middle pop-up area, as shown below. As you can see, they make one larger area for more counter space! This is great given all the fantastic extras in the Oven extras die set. Once I had all the pop-up mechanisms in place, I added my oven. I used Simon Says Stamps Lipstick Red cardstock for the oven. I also added a grey and black area on the inside of the oven, so when you open the door the back of the oven door is grey and the inside is black. I also added a sparkly red front to the oven door. A good tip for the oven pop-up is to make sure that whatever cardstock you use, be sure that you can glue on top of the surface. I had originally used the red shiny cardstock for the entire oven, but it wouldn't stay glued to the counter top. Once I had my oven in place, I added the four cupboard pieces. To make these, I die cut four cupboard pieces, adding drawers to two and doors to the other two. I then cut two additional door pieces that come with the Oven Extras and glued them to the underside of both cupboards, leaving enough space on one side to attach to the oven. I also found, when making my first card, that the extra cupboard needed some extra support, so I die cut some of the little additional pop-up pieces and added one each side of the extra cupboards, as shown to the left and below. I then glued each cupboard piece to the pop-up mechanism in the card, using my Lineco Neutral pH glue. Once the glue set, I closed my card to make sure everything worked correctly. I added some Copic markers to the fronts of my cupboards and drawers to add some dimension to the fronts of them. I die cut black circles and added them as drawer and cupboard door handles. I die cut the extra pieces to go on the oven, like the knobs and elements. I also die cut the pieces for the inside of the oven. I wanted my oven to have two racks on the inside, so I die cut one rack for the bottom of the oven area. Then I die cut some more of the little pop-up extra pieces and created two black pop-up mechanisms, placing them on top of the bottom rack. These hold up the second rack. Once I had the second rack glued in place, I could add my cookie sheet with the little gingerbread cookies on it. I also die cut a second cookie sheet to go on top of the oven. For this one, I added the hearts and stars die cuts. I added gold Liquid Pearls on top of the stars and red glitter Stickles to the tops of the hearts. I added the oven handle to the front of the oven door using a shiny metallic cardstock. I would advice you use something heavy for this piece because it's what you use to open the oven door. Next time, I will double up mine so the handle is more durable. I then die cut the pieces for the upper cabinets, including the vent for the oven. I did the same thing for the upper cabinets that I did for the bottom cabinets, adding Copic marker details to give them dimension. I wanted to have a Christmas theme to it, so I once I had all my cabinets in place, I got out the Fireplace Extras 1 and added the green trim to the top of the cupboards. I also added a red bow from the same die set and then using the glitter red Stickles, added holly berries to it as well. I also die cut four wreaths from the Gingerbread Tiny House Add-Ons and added bows to them as well. I glued them onto the cupboard fronts. I then die cut all the Oven Pop-Up and Oven Extra elements, such as the stand mixer, loaf of bread, turkey and pot. With some of these, I used the little pop-up piece, but with others such as the loaf of bread, I used foam squares. These still work well with closing the card. Once I had all my elements added, I stamped three little mice from Lawn Fawn's A Creature Was Stirring stamp set. I colored them using Copic markers and die cut them using the coordinating dies. Then I added them to my card. I had to use foam squares for them so they would stay on the card. I then die cut two ovals using Ovals - Crosshatch and added them like a rug to the floor. I die cut the "Merry Christmas" sentiment using the new Small Script - Christmas die set and added it to the "rug". For the front of my card, I used the same patterned cardstock as the inside. I added some bright green to give it a splash of color. Then using the Baking Charms, I die cut several items from heavy weight smooth white cardstock and silver cardstock. I colored some using Copic markers. Then for the hearts, I added some red glitter Stickles gel. I die cut the word "Whisk" from the Mini Alphabet and Numbers die set. I stamped the "We" and "You A" from MFT - Bitty Holiday Wishes. Thank you so much for stopping by today! Welcome to our September Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all. Our challenge theme this month is ... Theme: "SUN OR SNOW" - make a sunny or snowy day card. As you can see by my card above, I went with the the snowy theme to create a Christmas card. My finished card measured 7 inches x 5 inches. To create my card I used the Garden Bench Pop which I positioned in the centre of my card. The snowflakes on the cushions are from the Snowman Pop-up die set. I added the Street Lantern Pop-up die set to add the street lanterns on either side of the bench. I used the snowy Slimline border from the Long Nature Edges die set to add the snowy border along the front edge and along the back found of my card. I also added the snowflake border from the Long Nature Edges 2 die set for the snowflake border which is at the front edge of the card, this was die cut using white glitter cardstock. For the sentiment I used the Merry Christmas & Merry Christmas Shadow die sets which I adhered to the back panel of my card. I added the snowman from the Snowman die set which I popped up in front of the garden bench using the die from the Street Lantern Pop-up die set. I used the Snowman, Street Lantern and Slimline snow border which I used on the inside on my card to decorate the front of my card. For the sentiment I used the "brrr" sentiment from the Word Set 13 Snow die set.
It's Karen Burniston's Design Team Challenge time again, and this month the theme is 'Gingerbread'!! I've made a few gingerbread house cards over the years, because I love them, and I just couldn't resist this time either! Karen has the most beautiful House & Fence Pop-up die set which I used for this card. I used craft card stock, sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink and 'iced' with White Opal Liquid Pearls, for most of the decorative elements. The patterned paper is from First Edition's Christmas Wishes 12x12 pad. I covered the floating floor with white glitter card, added borders to the top and bottom of the card, and used a die from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set, for the sentiment backing. The larger heart is also from this set. The 'Merry Christmas' is from the Word Set 3 - Holiday die set. I also added bows to the fence, adapted from the Birthday Charms die set, and a little gingerbread man and trees from the Winter Charms die set. I hand cut a little bow tie for him. To the top border, I also added some ribbon, Stampin' Up twine and Stampin' Up mini jingle bells. I made a snowy hillside by cutting out by hand the slots to fit round the pop-up mechanisms, from some glitter card, and cutting the top stitched border with a die from the Nature Edges die set. For the card front, I added another label from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set, and the larger gingerbread man form the Winter Charms die set. I had such a good time creating this little scene! Here is a little project that I saw on Pinterest, and decided to make up a couple to give as gifts. If you Google "book carving" you'll get all kinds of amazing results, and plenty of how-to's. Scroll down to see how I made it: I started by tracing 3 half circles on the cover of a Harlequin!! Once you get started cutting with an Xacto, it goes quite quickly. Mine is good and sharp, so it would cut about 10 pages at a time. After carving, I fanned him out to break the spine, and make sure that the pages would sit evenly. I decided to use two books, and glue the covers together, as I wanted him to be really full (each book is around 185 pages, so a single book around 300-400 pages would work, too. I couldn't find a pre-made top hat in the stores, so I bought a square of black felt, die cut a large and small circle, and cut a strip - all of which I glued together to make his hat. I raided my yard to snip some tiny twigs to use for his arms which I hot glued between the pages. I cut a thin strip of plaid fabric that I wrapped around his neck as a scarf - and that was it!
Today is Day Two of Karen Burniston's March 2015 Designer Challenge, and I have two completely different cards today featuring the same Funnybones stamp. I had fun creating the front of this card, using the Outdoor Edges and one of the Evergreen trees from the Evergreen Pivot die. I crumpled and inked the top layer of the large Evergreen for additional texture. Here is a peek at the inside. The rest of the saying is: "Preferably in a hotel. With a pool. And a spa." Ahahaha - my kind of camping! Note, I cut the stamp into two pieces so I didn't have to fuss with masking and smudges. The Holiday House and two additional trees from the Evergreen Pivot are attached to the Lorna Label Pop Up, so the entire scene pops up as the card is opened. I cut additional trees for the Tree Line Outdoor Edge, inked and popped them up with foam tape over the original bases. The tree trunks were coloured with a Copic Marker. For my second - much simpler - card, I used the same Funnybones stamp but a different theme entirely. Inside I used the new Adirondack chair. I was surprised that this was actually the first time I've used that die as I've been having too much fun with the rest of the CHA Spring 2015 release! It was a snap to put together and I can't wait to play with it more. Yesterday some very HAPPY POST arrived!! Karen Burniston's entire new Snippets Collection!! Ever since I first saw pictures of the new Pop 'n Cuts 3-D House insert, I've been itching to play with it, and this evening I finally had the chance to make a card! I used the A2 Pop 'n Cuts Base, with the new 3-D House insert, and used pieces cut with the accompanying Thinlits House set... they are SO cute, and really easy to use. So much loveliness! Thank you Karen!! I didn't actually use the house piece from the Thinlits set, but cut a couple of extra layers using the House insert die. I also made a narrow side window, by cutting down a window and window sill pieces. I wanted to make a kind of gingerbread style house, with white icing (using Liquid Pearls). Unfortunately, I dropped the house while it was still wet, so my 'icing' spots got a bit blurred! The paper is from First Edition's 'Nordic Christmas', and for the red border I used a Thinlit die from Karen's new 'Banners and Borders' set. I really love this swirly one! I also used two dies from the 'Sassy Labels & Stitched Frames' Framelits set, for the sentiment. One of them just adds the stitches - a fab look! Can't wait to play more with the Snippets Collection very soon! (Update: If you would like to see another gingerbread house card of mine, using more current products, it is here.) Hi all! It's time again for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge. This month our theme is Trees, Please! I decided to create a card using Karen's Christmas Tree Pop-Up die, since I haven't had a chance to use it yet. While I was trying to decide exactly what to make, Karen suggested I try a gate fold card with two trees. I immediately thought of this card from a couple years ago and I was off and running! The base of the card was created by scoring a 6" x 12" piece of kraft cardstock 3" from each edge. I also added a 4" flap at the top that's attached by a tab across the back. The closure was made from one of Tim Holtz's adorable log slices and a length of elastic cord. Remove the elastic cord and the top panel pops up. Ooooh, a pretty winter cabin! But what's under those side panels? You open them slowly...is that...are those...trees?!? Why, yes...they are! And a little bunting that unfurls as the trees are lifted. How amazing is that tree die?! A few details about the construction: the patterned paper is from a pad I found at Hobby Lobby. I'm obsessed with it and it's what pretty much inspired the whole card. The little cabin was created by cutting down Karen's House die and adding snow and a little wreath. The bunting is from the Tag Book set and the labels are from the Katherine Label Pop-Up set. The greeting was cut into the label using dies from the Holiday Word Set. Finally, the snow was cut with the wavy edge from the Nature Edges set. Whew! I told myself I wasn't going to go overboard with this challenge, but I couldn't help myself. Even thought I used a lot of products, you could easily replicate this with just the tree die, substituting dies you already have for the other elements. The supplies I used can be found at KB Riley and Simon Says Stamp via the links below. Thanks so much for stopping by today! Make sure you check out Karen's blog tomorrow for a gorgeous card tutorial - you're going to love it!
I have been a huge fan of Karen Burniston's dies for years especially her pop up dies and so I was thrilled when Karen asked me to join her design team as a guest dt member for the November Designer's Challenge. The theme this month is SNOW and I decided to use the many snowflakes I own from many KB die sets to make a stencil for the front of this card. Here is a picture to show how easy it is to make a stencil with any set of small shape dies: I started with a piece of navy cardstock 10 1/2" x 5 1/4" folded in half for the square card base. I die cut a navy flap using the Flap and Closure die set from Karen Burniston, and then cut white layers for the flap and card front. On those layers I simply brushed Tumbled Glass Distress Ink through the stencil I made out of thick cardstock with many small KB snowflake dies. The sentiment was created with the Mini Alpha & Number Die Set and the Love You die (also from Karen Burniston.) Of course, as usual the best part of a card made with Karen's dies is on the inside when the card is opened: Isn't my pop up snowman cute? Here is a closer look: I used my Mini and Bitty Ball Pop Up sets to make a white snowman, and then I used the brand new Snowman Add-ons Die Set to dress him up perfectly. Since I had a pile of snowflakes cut from my stencil I added many of them to decorate the inside of this card. I also used the Oval Crosshatch die to cut a place to write a personal note and a Crosshatch Circle to attach my snowman with a brad through the bottom. He will spin if wanted because of that brad attachment. Here is a mini movie of this card to show the pop up movement of the snowman: (If you are a subscriber and reading this in your email, the mini movies in my blogposts for some reason don't show up:( You can simply click on the title of the blogpost to go to my blog where you can see it. And THANKS for being one of my loyal subscribers!) I had great fun making this card and want to thank Karen Burniston and her design team for allowing me to join in this challenge. Check out Karen's blog her tomorrow to see all the SNOW cards she and her talented team are sharing today and tomorrow. I am entering this card in the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday.
Hi all! It's time again for Karen Burniston's monthly Designer Challenge. This month, Karen chose the theme 'Christmas Tree'. Sometimes I ask my husband for ideas and he suggested I make a scene where people were chopping down their Christmas tree. I adapted that to a less ambitious scene where the tree has already been loaded up! On the front of my card, I used the sleigh from Karen's Sleigh Pop Up die set to create a wintry scene. The background was created with the tree die from her Outdoor Scene set. The sleigh is filled with gifts that were made using dies from the sleigh set, and a twine-wrapped tree from the Christmas Trees Pop Stand set. On the inside, I used the new Christmas Trees Pop Stand to create a woodsy scene, adding a deer that was cut using another die from the Outdoor Scene set. You can find the dies I used via the links below. Thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure and check out Karen's blog tomorrow for a new video tutorial and lots of inspiration from the team!
Hello this is my second card for this months challenge which was to 'celebrate' with any accordion frame edges. I had some very happy post last week which included the new landscape accordion die by Karen burniston. I chose to use it to create this portrait christmasy tent card. I cut out the centre of the card as I did in my easel card which was featured on the Elizabeth craft Designs blog. I then added the holiday house, the evergreen edge and the pine trees from the evergreen pivot card on each of the folds to create the 3D effect. I use the microfine glitter to create a glittery snowy scene. links to some of the items I used...
Hello and Welcome! Todays card features Karen Burniston's House and Fence Pop-Up. I wanted to create Santa's house up in the north pole, so I used the House and Fence Pop-Up to create this Christmas scene. To make this card, I started with dark blue cardstock and cut to an A2 size card. I cut three rectangles using MFT A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX, in the largest size from white heavy weight cardstock. On two rectangles, I created a dark sky using Distress Oxide ink in Chipped Sapphire and Broken China and added white snow flakes using my Gelly Pen in size 10. I made a snow hill background using Karen Burniston's Nature Edges die set. For the front of the card, I made the sleigh using Karen Burniston's Sleigh Pop-Up. I also used the Holiday Charms die and the Christmas Animals die set. I used my Copic markers to give the die cuts some dimension. I used a Christmas stamp from Simon Says Stamps I had and stamped and colored the North Pole sign. I didn't have a matching die so I fussy cut the sign out. For the inside of the card, I made the house look like a log/stone house. I die cut out the trees from the Winter Charms die set from green cardstock and added details using Copic markers and snow tips with my Gelly Pen in size 10. I created the polar bear and Santa and added them to the two tabs on the floor of the pop-up panel. I die cut the fence from red cardstock and added snow to it. If I make this pop-up again, I will double up on the cardstock for the fence, it wasn't very strong with the cardstock I used. For the house, I die it out from white cardstock and used Copic markers to add all the details. I used the wreaths that go on the fence to go on the windows and doors. I colored in the stone path way with Copics and added them to ground panel. The chimney is made from the door die. I cut it out from gray cardstock and the door frame from black cardstock and created the chimney. I die cut the candy canes and colored them with Copics as well and added them to the fence. I am so happy with how my Santa house came out. I hope you like it as much as I do! Thank you so much for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
Hi Crafty Friends, Welcome to our December Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all. Our challenge theme this month is ... "NAUGHTY OR NICE?" - Make a Christmas card that incorporates a stocking. This can be the Stocking Pop-up or the Holiday Charms stocking or the Fireplace Extras or whatever you can dream up! Here is a quick video to see my card in action. As you can see by the photos above, I created a Christmas themed Slimline Pop-up card for this month's challenge. Besides being Designer Challenge time, it is also the start of sneak peeks for the release next Monday 11th December, so I couldn't resist adding at least one new die to my card. For the pop-up portion of my card I used the new Raising Platform Pop-up die set for the top pop up on this card. I added the "Ho Ho Ho" sentiment from the Small Script - Christmas die set to the label. I made my slimline card to measure 3 3/4 inches x 8 1/2 inches to allow for the Raising Platform Pop-up. The bottom pop-up uses the Stocking Pop-up die set, I like how both pop ups can be used together to create a double pop-up card. I added more sentiments from the Small Script- Christmas for the "Holly Jolly Christmas" to the left panel of the pop-up. When the card is opened, the content of the stock is revealed. Besides using the present, bow & candy cane to the inside of the stock which are all from the Stocking Pop-up die set. I also used the bear from the Winter Animals die set and the foliage from the Holiday Charms die set. For the front of the card I used the fireplace from the Fireplace Pop-up die set and the Fireplace Extras 1 die set. I had to cut the sides of the fireplace down a little so it would fit onto the width of the slimline card. For the sentiment, I used the Merry Christmas and Merry Christmas Shadow die sets.
Hi Crafty Friends, It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Being a brand new month it is time to introduce our challenge hostess for December, which is Lynn McAuley. For our challenge this week Lynn has given us the theme .... Bold Christmas Sentiment - create a holiday card where a BIG and BOLD sentiment is the star on the front of your design. For my Bold Christmas sentiment I used Karen Burniston's Merry Christmas sentiment. I die cut the sentiment from red and green cardstock, layering the two together slightly offset. I added two circles using the circles from the Crosshatch - Circles die set and added a bow to the top of the circle which makes it look like an ornament. I then added my sentiment over the top of the circles. For my card today I have used the new Parcel Pop-up die set, this die set will suit so many different occasions. Of course with Christmas so close, I decided to make a Christmas card. Here is a quick video to see my card in action. While hunting through my paper stash for papers to use on this card, I found this cute parcel themed paper which I used as inspiration for the parcel pop-up. I envisioned Christmas day, someone opening their present and discovering a bear inside. For the bear I used an older stamp from Lili of The Valley, unfortunately this is no longer available as a stamp but I did find it as a digital stamp. So I have linked that below instead. Behind the bear I added a couple of presents which I die cut using the larger rectangle included in the Parcel Pop-up die set and added bows that are included in the new Gift Pivot Panels die set. I added the bow and gift tag to the present, these two dies are also included in the Parcel Pop-up die set. The sentiments on the tag are from a Mama Elephant stamp set. For the sentiment on the base of the card, I used an older Kaisercraft stamp set which I stamped onto a circle from the Crosshatch - Circles die set. Today I am sharing a Christmas themed Slimline card I created using new dies from Karen Burniston - KB Riley LLC. Most of Karen's Design Team have become addicted to creating Slimline Cards this year, so we were very excited when we discovered that Karen had designed three Slimline style die sets as part of this release. For my card today I have used two of those new sets. First up I used the new Long Rectangles - Crosshatch die set to create the various layers for this card. Every second rectangle in the set is designed with the crosshatch pattern around the edge. I used the new Slim Frames die set to create the two frames which I die cut from gold, green and white cardstock. I used some of the dies from the Winter Charms die set to create the stockings and fillings. For the top stocking I added some lumps of coal (yes these are included in the die set). The second stocking contains a bear and candy cane. I added a Naughty or Nice? sentiment in between the frames. For the inside of the card I created a pop-up card. I die cut the largest rectangle from the Long Rectangles - Crosshatch die set from patterned paper. This was cut in half and adhered to both inside edges of my card. I then created the double pop-up using the Katherine Labels Pop-up die set. I created two more frames the same as the ones on the front of the card. I then added the "Merry" and "Christmas" from the Word Set 3 - Holiday die set to each of the frames. Well that is about it from me today, thank you for dropping by. Hi all! Hope your December is off to a great start. It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This month our theme is 'Ink It.' I love this challenge because I've gotten lazier and lazier in my cardmaking - using lots of designer paper and not much in the way of inks and stamping. Not good for a blog called Stamptramp! It was really nice to pull out all of my supplies and get creative - I haven't been doing that enough lately and I really miss it. I decided to create a woodsy feeling Christmas card. The base is plain kraft cardstock. On the front, I stamped a woodgrain image from Tim Holtz and embossed it with Ranger's Weathered White embossing powder. I love the look of weathered wood it gives! The chunky letters were created by cutting multiple letters from thin cardstock with dies from Karen's Alphabet set. I stacked about five cutouts, gluing each one down securely. The top letter was cut from foil covered cardstock and glued on last. The edges were colored with a silver Sharpie so that they blended in. To give it an aged appearance, I dabbed it with black and silver paints. The wreath was created from a piece of wired greenery. Oooh, the best part, right?! I told Karen I feel like I'm overusing this Twist Panel die, but it's so much fun and so easy to use! And SO perfect with Tim Holtz's Blueprint stamps. I just got Tim's small stamping platform and thought I'd experiment with using it to color the Blueprint images. Especially when stamping on watercolor paper, it's so nice to be able to restamp if the image isn't very clear the first time you stamp it. For this card, I stamped first with Archival ink - very important to use a permanent ink since I knew I wanted to watercolor these images. After that, I colored the stamp with markers and stamped again. I used a waterbrush to pull the color into the image, but it wasn't intense enough, so I ended up coloring it directly (I still think it give it a cool look tho!). After it dried, I reinked the stamp, this time with clear ink, and embossed with clear embossing powder. I think the embossing really makes the image pop and kind of redefines the lines. I'm quite sold on stamping platforms now! Don't those images just pop now?! You can barely see the shine from the clear ep, but it really adds a lot of dimension. The background on the card was made by coloring the greenery and pinecone stamps with markers and then stamping randomly. On the bottom I used a text stamp to give more interest. Finally, I used a greeting from Karen's Holiday Word Set to add a sentiment. You can find the supplies I used via the links below. Oh, and Simon Says Stamp is offering an adorable Tiny Wreath Builder stamp and stencil set from Gina K free with ANY purchase right now! If you haven't seen the wreath builder stamps and stencils, they are so cool. And of course perfect to use with your stamping platform! I think I am going to go do a little shopping. :-) Thanks so much for stopping by today! Be sure and check out Karen's blog tomorrow for a fantastic new tutorial and lots of inky inspiration from the whole team!
Isn't he a happy fellow? Made from a flameless tealight candle, and 2 1/2 circle punch, and 3" die cut. Hat is 1 inch square punch, and window punch. Retired snowflake punch used for the arms. This picture shows the candle turned on. I used a 3/4 circle punch to make a hole in the larger circles to allow access to the light switch. Snowman body have pop dots in between. Wondering what the eyes, mouth, and buttons are made from? They are pearls that have been colored black with a permanent marker.
(Update: If you would like to see another gingerbread house card of mine, using more current products, it is here.)
