Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter. | John Keats Quote
'I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart's affections, and the truth of imagination' - Keats, in a letter to his friend Benjamin Bailey in November 1817. In a period of great letter-writing, Keats's letters are outstanding. They begin in summer 1816, as he approached his twenty-first birthday, and were written over the next four years until his early death. Viewed together, they give the fullest and most poignant record we have of Keats's ambitions and hopes as a poet, his life as a literary man about town, his close relationship with his brothers and young sister, and, later, his passionate, jealous and frustrated love for Fanny Brawne. Keats enclosed many of his poems with his letters, and read together, they offer an incomparable insight into his creative process and development as a poet. This major new edition edited by Professor John Barnard includes an introduction and notes, as well as a map of Keats's Scottish walking tour and reproductions of his letters. John Keats was born in October 1795. His Poems appeared in 1817, while Endymion was published in 1818, both to mixed reviews. In 1819 he wrote The Eve of St Agnes, La Belle Dame sans Merci, the major odes, Lamia and the Fall of Hyperion. Keats was already unwell when preparing his 1820 volume for the press; by the time it appeared in July he was desperately ill. He died in Rome in 1821, in a rented apartment next to the Spanish Steps, at the age of twenty-five. John Barnard is Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Leeds and has edited The Complete Poems of Keats for Penguin Classics.

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness."-Keats" is an 8" x 10" print by watercolor artist Maggie Vandewalle. Giving her paintings a title is an intrinsic part of the process for Maggie, but with this piece she was stuggling to convey what she felt. When she posted the image to facebook, several quotes from Keats surfaced, specifically from the ode "To Autumn" and the lines exactly fit what she was trying to say. The print comes matted to fit a standard 11" x 14" frame and the arctic white mat is attached to a durable 3/16th inch foam core backing. A label with the name of the painting, and the artist's name is on the back. Special Shipping Protection This matted print comes in a clear plastc bag with a protective piece of cardboard placed in front of the print. The package is shipped in a rigid cardboard mailer to protect the item during shipping.

Haney, Coleridge
An entirely new portrait of Keats, rich with insights into the torments of his life and the imaginative sources of his works This landmark biography of celebrated Romantic poet John Keats explodes entrenched conceptions of him as a delicate, overly sensitive, tragic figure. Instead, Nicholas Roe reveals the real flesh-and-blood poet: a passionate man driven by ambition but prey to doubt, suspicion, and jealousy; sure of his vocation while bitterly resentful of the obstacles that blighted his career; devoured by sexual desire and frustration; and in thrall to alcohol and opium. Through unparalleled original research, Roe arrives at a fascinating reassessment of Keats's entire life, from his early years at Keats's Livery Stables through his harrowing battle with tuberculosis and death at age 25. Zeroing in on crucial turning points, Roe finds in the locations of Keats's poems new keys to the nature of his imaginative quest. Roe is the first biographer to provide a full and fresh account of Keats's childhood in the City of London and how it shaped the would-be poet. The mysterious early death of Keats's father, his mother's too-swift remarriage, living in the shadow of the notorious madhouse Bedlam-all these affected Keats far more than has been previously understood. The author also sheds light on Keats's doomed passion for Fanny Brawne, his circle of brilliant friends, hitherto unknown City relatives, and much more. Filled with revelations and daring to ask new questions, this book now stands as the definitive volume on one of the most beloved poets of the English language. 65 b-w illus.

Auden, as well as many less familiar voices, this anthology offers numerous options for anyone about to read at the wedding of family or friends, or to celebrate their own.

“Love is my religion — I could die for that — I could die for you. My Creed is Love and you are its only tenet.”
I snapped this cute set up at an estate sale recently. They seem to pretty unique and kind of special…especially for literature lovers. These volumes cover selected works from authors Joseph Addison to John Keats, indicating there are more volumes to this collection but this was all the estate had amongst hundreds of books. There is a similar 8 volume set out there but published by a different publisher. And I saw another set but published decades later. I would encourage you to look at the editor’s note to get the best idea of what these books contain. They are smaller in size, with red fabric boards and gilt lettering on spine. Some soiling noticeable. Inside books are clean, nothing to note as issues. Pages are clean and no marking or writing in any of them. Binding is good on all, no gutter cracks. The only minor page tears I see are on pp 25-28 of volume 4, in the lower margin area and pp 9-10 of volume 5, same area. Each book has just over 300pp. Books measure 7”x5”.
About Dear Juno Juno’s grandmother writes in Korean and Juno writes in drawings, but that doesn’t mean they can’t exchange letters. From the photo his grandmother sends him, Juno can tell that she has a new cat. From the picture he makes for her, Juno’s grandmother can tell that he wants her to come for a visit. So she sends Juno a miniature plane, to let him know she’s on the way. This tender tale won the author an Ezra Jack Keats award, and is a perfect introduction to the concept of foreign cultures and far-off lands.

The word gothic conjures up crumbling castles, passion and unnerving supernatural events. It's a powerful genre and a mood that has influenced writers, artists and designers ever since. This is a gorgeous anthology of extracts from extravagant and dark gothic stories and verse. Part of the Macmillan Collector's Library; a series of stunning pocket-sized classics. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. My Gothic Heart is selected and introduced by editor and writer Charlie Castelletti. My Gothic Heart features tantalising extracts from the famous names of gothic writing such as Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, the Bronte sisters and John Keats. It then travels forward to the early twentieth century, finding gothic resonance in the writing of Virginia Woolf, Oscar Wilde and Wilfred Owen. Altogether, it's a powerful mix that cannot fail to stir the emotions.
