Edie had expected finishing her new Tutti Frutti top would cheer her up and help her forget that she'd flunked out of beauty school, but it hadn't done the trick. Carmel felt that the drama of the glorious cascade of yarn attached to her shoulder by way of a brooch more than made up for the fact that she had forgotten to wear her "nice undies" as she had intended. After her manager strenuously objected to her visible undies as workplace attire, Carmel came up with a new look. People in the marketing department were always told they should be positive, and what could be more positive than an outfit inspired by cheerleading pom poms? Triplets Bill, Phil, and Dill loved to knit, but they had not spend so much time at the gym honing their physiques only to cover them up with knitwear. The craft club best known as the Four Crocheteers weren't such gym rats as Bill, Phil, and Dill, and were therefore more inclined to go free form when practicing the needle arts. By contrast, the knitting club known as the Kneurotic Knitters used their knitting to veil their insecurities. You don't think their ankles look fat in these outfits, do you? Giselle always reserved one outfit for those days when she felt more than usually Kafakesque. Her Penal Colony outfit was an even more dramatic, fun look than her Metamorphosis outfit, but also more cumbersome. Verna loved wearing her new sweater design while wearing housework. Being able to use one's sweater as both a duster and a pot scrubber was such a timesaver. Jackson was positive his new sperm outfit would do wonders for his social life. Chicks dig a man who's able and willing to give them babies, right? Zed oozed so much cool, he could even wear his new hoodie dress like a boss.

Cat Kelly's knitting cake! Inspired by this design: This was the finished cake: I baked two sponge cakes and sandwiched them together with butter cream icing and strawberry jam. Then I carefully carved a little off each side to make the cake oval shaped. I was going to invest in an oval shaped cake tin but the chopping method worked just as well! I covered the cake in blue sugarpaste to start. I then mixed up a big batch of butter cream icing, divided it into two and coloured one green and one blue. I used a piping bag with a small nozzle to pipe on the lines of yarn, green first and then blue in between. Then I cut a rectangle of white sugarpaste which I attached to the middle of the cake, and then wrote "Knit fast, die warm" using my black felt tip food colour pen, then decorated with sugar balls (from cakecraft.com) Finally, I made some knitting needles out of cookie sticks with a bit of sugarpaste on the end and put them through the cakey ball of yarn, then transferred it onto a silver cake board.... Sadly it got so mashed in transit, but at least I got photos when it was still pretty!

Why settle for boring knitwear when you can have a bizarre and hilarious knitted hat, a full-body sweater, or even something called a Willie Warmer?
I think this horse portrait is just about finished - I need to leave it for a day or so then come back and see if it needs tweaking. This one was just for fun, using a fellow blogger's photo of her horse - I thought painting a spotty horse (yes, I am sure there is some technical term for a spotty horse, but I don't know it...) would be vastly different to the brown ones (again, I can't differentiate between a chestnut, bay, dun or roan so don't judge me) that I have been painting lately. Boy, was I right! This has been painted in watercolour and was quite tricky. Very enjoyable though. No more art commissions currently on the horizon - if you've been dithering, better grab me now! On the other hand, I am still working hard on the knitting commissions. Yup, they are indeed slugs. Poseable slugs. Next job, chickens with egg-laying capabilities.....it could be a looong weekend.

Knit it solid for a quick and simple knit. This is a great project for those new to cables. Or knit it in intarsia and feel the burn- that shizz knit is challenging but looks so beautiful. I have a bit of a thing for tentacles. That sounded far dirtier than it was supposed to. All I mean is, tentacles are cool. It’s a steampunk/pirate thing I suppose. Tentacles are cool in the …
With sheer horror I remember the moment we had to make our own knit “couture” in home ec class. It could be anything, from a tote bag to a pair of socks, or a scarf, or a tiny doll... the list goes on. I thought that a knitted bow tie for Father’s Day was a great idea, but expectation vs reality hit and the final result looked like a pastel wool blob asking to be tacitly discarded.
I hope the people who found these thrift store items BOUGHT THEM INSTANTLY because they are all must-have items. [via distractify] More
There are some real creative thinkers out there.
When Sheila's friends suggested that if she was so fed up with dating, she might give it a rest for awhile and just concentrate on the things she enjoyed doing, Sheila turned to the real love of her life, crochet, for fulfillment. Alarmed, her friends gifted her with dating site subscriptions and confiscated her crochet hooks. Dylan decided to save money on ski wear by making the same outfit do for both skiing and après-ski activities with her boyfriend. To that end, she'd added strategic holes intended to facilitate both ventilation and easy access. Inspired by Dylan's frugality, her friend Rosalind made some fetching ski wear out a bathmat. Both Dyland and Rosalind decided to rethink their money-saving strategies and, in fact, the entire ski trip, after Dylan's boyfriend Marvin got into the act and made himself an afghan onesie. Proud as she was of her knitwear ensemble design, Jerusha could not shake the feeling she'd mismeasured or forgotten something. "Eat up, Connie! You'll need the calories for the roller rink, the mall, and the drive-in movie theatre! You know we can't put on sassy hot pants like these and not live up to them." Fashion editor Anya had set up a special corner of her office where she could relax and knit for a few minutes in avant-garde style whenever things got a little too hectic. Misty had found the perfect solution for combining long hair with a hoodie. After weeks of exchanging catty remarks at their local knitting group, Nita and Pearl finally went full-on sparring match. Winona was not going to let her responsibilities as a mother keep her from being in the forefront of fashion. If nothing else, she could fashion sea horse hair accessories out of her child's outgrown sweaters and sew chic outfits out of crib sheets.
