My sister has started making adorable hair bows recently. She's building up quite a stock, and she'll sell some Wednesday. We talked this morning about coming up with some knitted flowers to adorn the hair clippies. The problem with free patterns online is that they are intended for personal use only. Therefore, it would be a breech of the rules to use them for the clips she's selling. So I set to work creating a pattern of my own. And, in case you're wondering, I welcome you to use this pattern however you see fit. If you'd like to knit a handful of these and sell them at a craft fair, you have my full permission. And while we're on the topic, that goes for any and all patterns I share on this blog. If I have borrowed a pattern to reprint on this site, I've had permission to do so, and I will always indicate that. In that case, please refer to the author's rules. Anyway, enjoy, and please let me know if you make these or have any trouble or questions! Size 0 needles, 4-ply yarn CO 10 stitches Turn and knit into the front and the back of the first two stitches. *Leaving the remaining stitches on the needle, turn and purl 4. This is how I made the tiny blue flowers on my Posy Cushion. Knitted on 2 needles. Abbreviations: K = Knit St(s) = Stitch(es) tbl = through back of loop RS = right side Tension (gauge) isn't important but if you use needles one or two sizes smaller than recommended for the yarn, you will get a more closely knitted flower. (I used Baby Cashmerino and 2.5mm needles.) Using blue, make slip knot on left hand needle and cast on 2 more sts (3 sts in total, RS facing). Cast off 2, knitting the last st tbl (1 petal made). *Slip the remaining stitch back onto the left hand needle, keeping the RS of knitting facing you. Do not turn the work. Cast on 2 more sts. Cast off 2, knitting last stitch tbl (this just makes a firmer straight edge). Repeat from * until you have a line of 5 petals. Fasten off leaving an end a few inches long. Thread this end onto a sewing needle. With the right side of the knitting facing you, use the needle to gather the straight edge, being careful not to twist the knitting. Draw up to form a flower and secure. Where the two end petals meet, secure with a tiny stitch. Darn in thread ends on the back of the flower, or leave long for sewing to whatever you like. Using yellow, make a French knot in the centre, or you could use a bead. You are welcome to this design for your own non-commercial use. It was designed a s a forget-me-not, but as a general small flower pattern it could be made in any colour. I hope you like it and will try it! ♥

Learn how to crochet a flower with these 10 easy patterns. Crochet flowers are a fun project for any time of the year, but especially Spring.
today i am crocheting little flowers getting ready for my art group tonight. we are making crochet flower necklaces like the one lori gardner made. (i'll link to her photos when she posts them) she wore it to art group one night and stunned us all. i almost gave up with the tutorial today.... the lighting was too bright, the yarn was too fuzzy and my camera wouldn't focus, i forgot to ride my bike up to the school to pick up the kids. (the little voice on the phone- mom, aren't you coming to get us?) does that spell mom failure with capital letters or what? then there is that voice asking why are you doing this again? then everyone got home, we had a bit of a snack, and my project didn't look so awful any longer. i took a few more photos and had to be out the door. the last week of school is a killer for sure. are you feeling it? these are the little cherry blossom flowers my daughter marina uses to make the hair clips and pins in her shop. i think they are so sweet. i wanted a tiny project to fit in my purse this summer that i can do anywhere. this is it, all you need is a size 10 crochet hook and some #8 DMC cotton perle or thin yarn. a pair of clippers in your purse will even cut the thread. i was given a bag of crochet hooks, threads, and patterns that were my grandma beaulah's after she passed away when i was 16 years old. i love using her old metal crochet hooks now, having one in my purse will be a little memory of her. *note* this isn't a step by step crocheting tutorial for someone that has never crocheted before in their life. if you need a bit more help check this youtube video tutorial out. step 1. make a loop and chain 7 stitches with inside color. step 2. slip stitch to join circle and chain one to begin round one. step 3. you are going to crochet 5 petals around the circle. the pattern for each petal is this: crochet one single crochet through the circle you made(sc). double crochet (dc) 2 times through the circle, then single crochet(sc) again through the circle and finish the first petal with a 1/2 crochet through the circle. the pattern would read r1 sc dc dc sc 1/2c. repeat this pattern for each petal 4 more times. step 4. slip one stitch to join round one. clip thread and pull through to tie off. step 5. round 2 begin crocheting with outline color. join thread and single crochet through the center. this is the stitch that will shape each of the 5 petals so keep this one snug. step 6. now single crochet around the first petal with your outline color following this pattern. single crochet once in the first stitch, single crochet twice in the second stitch, single crochet twice in the third stitch, single crochet once in the fourth stitch, single crochet through the center and begin second petal. continue crocheting around the remaining four petals following this pattern. step 7. slip one stitch to join round 2. clip thread and pull through to tie off. use a large eyed needle to hide the thread ends on the back of the flower and clip off. your first little crochet flower is finished! sew a small button or seed beads in the center of your flowers, sew them on a pin back or hair clip, a tiny purse or package and you might be on your way to making a whole collection of these little cherry blossoms. enjoy, julie

Hello my dear friends, seriously ~ I am hooked! Hooked on crocheting mini flowers from a pattern I made up this morning and now I just can't seem to want to stop making these tiny blooms. It takes not even 5 minutes to have one done. Right now I have no idea what I am going to use them for but I am sure something will pop into my mind. I first learnt how to crochet when I was 8 or 9 years old in school (yes, in those days we were still taught how to sew, knit, crochet and cook at school, something I think they should bring back, I actually learnt how to sew when I was about 5 years old and my Grandma taught me how to ) and I have always loved to crochet. When I was a teenager I would crochet large doilies or tablecloths and sell them to make a bit of extra pocket money. These days I still like to crochet but nothing too big but I do love making smaller pieces like snowflakes, little hearts or like these little flowers now. Take a look ... ... aren't they just so neat and tiny?! These could be made plain and then you could dye them any color you would like either with food coloring or even Easter egg colors! They could be used to embellish tags or pincushions or anywhere you would like them to be! And you can use them to make these ... ... an old idea with a new twist ... ... instead of using little flowers of paper or book pages you can use these to make your little flowers pins! And because I love to create and I think I am a happier person because of it I would like to share how to make these tiny flowers with you today. I am sharing the instructions two ways ... ...once as a graphic with the crochet symbols and secondly as written instructions as well . How to make a tiny flower ... ... you start off with a magic ring/circle ~ if you don't know how to make a magic circle you can find many videos on 'how to' on the net. There is only one round you need to crochet for this flower ... ... form a magic ring ~ into this ring crochet ... 3 chain stitches, one double crochet, 3 chain stitches, one slip stitch. Repeat this 4 more times ~ making the 5 petals for the flower ~ finishing with a slip stitch. Now just fasten off, tighten the magic ring by pulling the tail of the thread, cut off and you are done with your little flower. I hope my instructions are written so you will be able to make this little flower and now all you have to do is find something you want to embellish with them. I hope you are well and life is treating you kind. Have a peaceful and creative day, Karen B.
