German biologist and artist Ernst Haeckel dedicated his life studying far flung flora and fauna, drawing each of their peculiar specificities with an immense scientific detail. Haeckel made hundreds of such renderings during his lifetime, works which were used to explain his biological discoveries to a wide audience. In addition to these visual masterpieces, Haeckel also discovered many microbes, and coined several scientific terms commonly known today, such as ecology, phylum, and stem cell. More
James is geboren in Auburn in de staat New York in 1862. Lady Shannon and her daughter Kitty Lezende vrouw aan het strand Voorlezen

“You’re such an agoniser, Bradley. You romanticise art. You’re a masochist about it, you want to suffer, you want to feel that your inability to create is continuously significant.” ― Iris Murdoch, The Black Prince Roland Topor understood his surroundings because he wasn’t of them? When you’re a stranger, everything is strange. And … Continue reading "The Masochists – A 1960 Study In Extreme Pain"

In this collection of art made out of books, we explore the ways in which artists cleverly create book art using discarded literary works.

DIY Paper-Cut Tunnel Book: I like challenges. AND I like to make things, especially if they are from what would probably be thrown out. So that gave me this idea. Why not make a 3-dimensional book/sculpture?! It doesn't use much and can be a sort of therapy.
Beautiful hand-crafted elephant sculpture, created from old books I have run Compass Books second-hand bookshop for nearly 15 years in Dartmouth, Devon, and have always hated having to throw away ‘dead’ books - ones that are damaged, or have missing pages, or loose covers. So I rolled my sleeves up and taught myself how to recycle old and unusable books into something that is decorative and functional. **PLEASE BE AWARE** all off-cut paper created when making my Paperback Pets and Book Art gets shredded and used as packaging material for posting the items. With this in mind, when your package arrives, try and be in somebody else's house when you open it, as it can go everywhere and shredded paper is like glitter for turning up in strange places for days to come!
Artists are cutting, burning, and hanging books to create “shaped prose”, landscapes, and faces. University of Iowa professor, Garrett Stewart, sees these book sculptures as symbols of “renewable intellectual energy.” The resulting art is pretty incredible, albeit bittersweet, and sometimes strangely beautiful (such as the Edinburgh paper sculptures). This “book tree” from a gallery in the […]
Welk type ben jij?
As paper lovers and design enthusiasts, books have always held a special place in our hearts, as they combine so many aspects of our passion, but books as art objects, or, art made from books, are a new intriguing avenue we’re excited to explore. The world of extraordinary artworks from artists and creatives around the globe, using the physical book as raw material or starting point for their creative work is astounding. As the modern world grows more digital by […]
