I had the traditional mofongo - with crispy pork. This was my first time eating mofongo, or plantains in any way, shape or form whatsoever, so I was really excited. The mofongo itself was delicious, I really liked it. The pork, on the other hand, was rather disappointing. It was more hard and tough, rather than crispy, and the skin was rubbery. For me, I can take fish/chicken skin as long as it is crispy. Soggy or chewy though, and it's no go. Next time I go, I will have the pernil mofongo, which is roast pork. My friend ordered that and it was tender and delicious. My friend, who is Dominican herself, said that it was "just like home".
