Insider tips and tricks for saving money at Legoland California in Carlsbad near San Diego. Because everything is awesome... when you save money on your family theme park vacation
Located just steps from the entrance of LEGOLAND California is LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. It is the perfect place to stay for the full LEGO experience! Our stay at LEGOLAND Castle Hotel in Carlsbad, California was a fun filled two days packed with memories! **This post contains affiliate links. Please see my Privacy Policy and Disclosures Statement for more information.** LEGOLAND in Carlsbad, California is also home to two, perfectly themed hotels: LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. This fun hotel opened in April of 2018 and has 250 fun, themed guest rooms. For this visit, we decided to stay in one of the Magic Wizard rooms at the Castle Hotel. For more information about the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, click here. Guest Check-In On the travel vouchers that we received after booking the hotel, it states that you can complete your pre-check in by stopping at the front desk and providing them with your credit card information and guest ID. Because I had read so many reviews stating that check-in can be a long wait when the park closes for the day, I made sure to stop there first! We arrived at the hotel at 9am and I quickly went inside to do the pre-check-in prior to heading over to the park. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that our room was already ready! We quickly grabbed our luggage and put it in our room before heading to the park. This made it so much more relaxing getting back to the hotel after spending all day walking around. The resort also has a $30 per night resort fee. This is meant to cover refreshments in your room, phone calls, luggage service, internet and nightly surprises for kids. The refreshments included two juice boxes, two bottles of water and a couple k-cups for the coffee maker. Amenities All of the rooms at the hotel are very spacious with a great layout. Each room has a separate sleeping area for the kids which makes it feel more like a suite! There was a scavenger hunt that provided a code to get into the safe which contained a LEGO set for each child. This was a fun activity before bedtime and our kids loved getting their very own LEGO sets once they figured out the secret code! A self serve laundry room is located on the third floor of the hotel, with both the washing machine and dryer being billed to your room by means of your key card. A coin operated laundry detergent machine is also available. Having a laundry room right at the hotel is a life saver for those with children! When you stay at the hotel, you also get early entry into the park! Park attendants begin letting in those with a room key into the park anywhere from half an hour to one hour before normal opening hours. This is a great way to ride some of the most popular rides before large lines begin forming. The daily housekeeping service will tidy up your room each day, restock the included beverages and restock the LEGO sets for the scavenger hunt each night of your stay! Located next to the restaurant is the gift shop that sells mostly knight, dragon and princess themed LEGO items. Check out my post How to Have the Best Day at LEGOLAND California! The Rooms The room theme options at this hotel are Knights & Dragons, Royal Princess or Magic Wizards. We booked a Magic Wizards room for our trip (what Harry Potter fan wouldn’t?). The main room had a king sized bed, sitting chair and desk. The kids room had a bunk bed (which also has a pull-out trundle to fit a 3rd child). There is also an entertainment center with a TV and LEGOS for the kids to play with during their stay. Each room has a mini fridge, the cutest LEGO ice bucket, a coffee maker and refreshments. Of course a benefit to staying at a hotel that caters to children are the little things that we take for granted such as having the bathrooms equipped with step stools for the sinks and built in potty training seats on the toilets! The view from our room was the entrance to the park and the LEGOLAND Hotel. The picture below was from our window and shows just how close you are to the entrance of the park! Ready to book your stay? Click here for the best rates! Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar This hotel has one on-site restaurant, Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar. A full breakfast at this restaurant is included with most stays. We were pleasantly surprised with the selection. The buffet included the standard hot breakfast items such bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, oatmeal, bagels & toast and more. Cold items included fruit salad, pastries, yogurt and cereals. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and fountain soda. Although the breakfast is included, it was still required to make a reservation. We were told this was so that they could space out diners due to covid but all of the guests were clustered together in one section of the dining room rather than spacing them out throughout the restaurant. The restaurant is well decorated for the theme with plenty of large LEGO creations and, of course, a play area within the restaurant to build LEGOS. The restaurant is also open for lunch, dinner, room service and take out until 10pm. I would suggest checking out the lunch & dinner menu prior to eating there as it is very limited and may not suit your entire groups needs. The Pool The pool is zero entry and heated! Children smaller than 48″ must wear an approved life vest which are provided by the hotel. As soon as your enter the pool area, staff are there to assist you with getting towels and the proper life vest for your child. Our kids loved playing with the pool LEGO bricks that you will find all around the pool area. This area also has cabanas for rent and poolside food and beverage service. Due to Covid, neither were available when we were visiting. In terms of theming, I thought the pool area was a bit boring compared to the rest of the hotel but the kids had a great time swimming and playing with the floating bricks. Activities The inner courtyard of the hotel is where the playground is located. Here you will also find the movie night and the stage areas. Although we didn’t catch any plays on the stage, the first night we were able to get pictures with a LEGO wizard and the following day they had staff outside creating balloon animals for the kids. We watched the evening movie while we were there and it was great to have the playground right next to the movie so that we could relax and the kids could play when they grew tired of sitting too long. For added convenience, request a room overlooking the movie area! There were plenty of families enjoying the movie night from their very own balconies. On our night there, we decided to get food delivery rather than have a sit down dinner at the hotel restaurant. The movie area had plenty of seating with tables and chairs for us to enjoy our dinner while watching the movie. There were many families doing the exact same thing! The kids loved all the little details throughout the hotel such as the light up LEGO scenes in the elevators, the light fixtures in the hallways made out of LEGOS and even the landscaping LEGOS outside. Although the hotel is a bit of a splurge compared to other hotels in the area, we felt it was well worth the additional cost. The convenience of being so close to the park and letting the kids be completely immersed in all things LEGO for a couple of days was money well spent. Our kids really enjoyed everything about staying at the LEGO Castle Hotel and we can’t wait to try out the LEGOLAND Hotel the next time we go visit LEGOLAND! Location & Parking One Legoland Drive Carlsbad, California 92008 (833) 710-5346 Hotel parking is $25 per night for self park and $28 per night for valet. The best part about a Lego brickset is that even if construction blocks were never your favorite toy, you can’t resist building something – anything – with Lego. The Danish company that started producing wooden toys as far back as the 1930s took creating worlds to a whole different level. Be it regular sets or themed ones, the variety of cool things to build with Legos caters to so many tastes. With new Lego sets coming out ever so often, you are guaranteed to never run out of things to build or ever get bored.
