There is a moment when a clinging bead of water, in quiet orb-like suspension, becomes a droplet. The droplet reflects its surroundings while gathering light within. There is a moment when molten glass transforms from liquid to solid. Gweilo is a new collection of custom lighting by PARTISANS that reimagines illumination to architectural effect. Inspired by the idea that light itself could be harnessed and manipulated to create a physical sculpture, PARTISANS developed a design that alters light at its source. Named for a Cantonese word that means “white ghost,” Gweilo luminaires are spectral sculptures that pleat and curve, emulating the vital movement of light.
